I don't think even Michael Jackson was able to fuck with him. It's a shame they often become more famous than rich, and their fame is usually local. They hardly ever become household names. The highest claim to fame many of them often achieve is touring around the world. SURE! They are doing what they love, but what good is that if you don't make enough to retire on. MOST IMPORTANT, what will they do when they get old?
@Solowizard Very true but Breakin opened doors for the rappers........breakin was invented before rappin - breakers started goin on tours and doin shows and things and they brought the rappers with them not the other way around like it is today. Alot of breakers today make a good living off of the dance and have even made "REAL" money from shows like star search which B-boy "do knock" won and americas best dance crew which quest n super crew won. Money is just a bonus for most anyway. .
@19daze98 - Nice try, but you're never going to convince me that any breakdancer made real money (I'm talking millions of dollars). I know better, been around too long.
@Solowizard dude yr rite not millions but u missed my point. I dont think the jabberwokees make chump change who have their show in las vegas (not exactly buskin). "groovaloos' do their tour all over the world, Do knock n cloud make a gud living off of breakin. Maybe chump change to u and "rappers" like lil wayne but I'd be pretty happy makin a livin off of something u dont get into to make money off. Quarter of a million is quite alot which 2 bboys won on 'got to dance' a tv show in the uk.
@19daze98 - I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but I don't understand some of what you are trying to say. Can you please use correct English Grammar? I'm one of those educated folks.
@Solowizard HAHA - it's you-tube not English class (I had to fit a lot in.....yr = your / u = you / rite = right lol) anyway .....You said "break dancers make chump change" from Break-dancing when I know "break-dancers" have made a lot more than just chump change as you put it. The last post I mentioned names of some of the crews and dancers who have made loads from the dance. There is such a thing as a pro break dancer (b-boy).
@19daze98 - It should not matter if this is the internet or not. You'll be a smarter person if you used correct grammar regardless of the forum. I don't understand that kind of thinking that it's ok to be dumb because you're not in school. Weird.
@Solowizard Mind if I put "lol" ??? You're just going off topic.....anyways I said what I wanted to say and since you're so smart I'm sure you understood my post and if you didn't I think you're the dumb one. Have a nice day
@andytoocandy Machine gun wars were in effect because laws were not in effect to curb such wanton violence yet. Every bitch with a slit between her legs was for sale because of crack that the CIA put in the ghetto to kill the black race. every body that had white girls had UGLY FAT ONES . Nah fuck the 80s Im staying right here in 2012 p.s. motherfuckers these days cant even afford uzis nowadays.
Bboying, Graffiti, Rappers & DJing which was birthed in the Bronx NYC was never the same once Hollywood CA got hold of it and fucked everything thing up about this beautiful culture!
This video shows how bboying got raped from it's culture because of fucking Hollywood , because of Hollywood bboying died for a decade and even when it came back it wasn't the same from wen it first originated !!!!
Imagine travel to the 80's and breakdance with flare, airflare, halo, headspin, one handed airflare, lotus airflare, 1990's, 2000's, munchmills, webmills, airchair, handhops, shoulder spin, hooooly shit, I don't want to imagine haha.
popping and locking for life..i'm soooo grateful to be from los angeles, where locking originated from.....know your history before you educate....."educate before you recreate." peace out too all true popper, locker, and all bboyz-bgirlz. across the globe....past,present,and future.......
i wonder how it would be 20 years later when we look back at this time and think, man if only i can go back . lol technology would be main stream to the max by that time
@Prepare4Buddha Yea he was one of the biggest influences to the black n latino kids who started breakin in the bronx.......his music and style of dance is one of the things that started it....along with other things like martial arts / gymnastics.
That one guy said he'd been breakin' for 12 years, even though it didn't hit LA until '81/'82. He probably meant he'd been Poppin' for 12 years, because that started in Cali in the early '70s. The medi need to start differentiating between Breakin'/B-boyin', Poppin' and Lockin'.
did you see that fuckin moon walk....shit the was the best I think I've seen he didnt do it like taht in that bullshit ass moive.. fuck..that mutha fucker was glidin his ass off.. shit I'm gonna do that work monday!
Ahhh, the beginning the commercial hip hop scene, when it oozed out the underground and out all over the mainstream as a money making opportunity and no longer about the street. Funny though how most of these people would probably ever have been interested in taking a walk through Morrisania.
I THINK THIS IS WHEN BREAKING WAS THE BEST!!!..SERIOUSLY NOW ITS TURNING INTO GYMNASTICS THERE WAS POWERMOVES BACK THEN YAH BUT NOT AS MUCH BACK THEN IT WAS MORE CREATIVE AND IT WAS ALL ABOUT GREAT FOOTWORK WHICH LOOKS WAY BETTER THAN A BUNCH OF BALLET AND ACROBATIC MOVES IT WAS SIMPLER YET WAY BETTER

hello i live in france and we don't understand good the english , i want the name of the song in a video which is in youtube this is : "funk dance 30"
@inme1234 Ya don't know what the hell ya talkin' about. Ya might wanna check MJ's ' You Rock My World 30th Anniversary ' here on youtube. Check out 4:35 to 4:43 THAT is MASTER Popper at work. By this rime Michael had almost 30 years to perfect his Popping. Even Stevie Wonder would be able to see it!
This shit went away when the atari and all that shit started coming out. Technology has made many less creative, less active and fat. No way they can spin on their heads.
Yup thats boogaloo shrimp and Nick "Flair" - Pop n' Taco - Suga Pop - Handy Man - the Unique Dominoes - Heckle and Jeckle (twins) - very cool recap of the good ole days.
Break Dancing started in the late 70's 1979 to be exact. I remember when it began. In the Bronx, New York it all started. I'm from the Old School during the days of Red Alert, African Bambata, Curtis Blow, Sugar Hill Gang, Doug Fresh, RunDMc. I was a member of the Crazy Bunch aka 122 Street Crew.
@DSkeptic86 Break Dancing or B-Boying started as early as 1972. The 1st persons to start B-boying was a group called the Nigga Twins @ a Kool Herc party in the bronx. PuertoRicans picked up the dance around 1975. Crazy Legs & The RockSteady Crew introduce power Moves by 1978,79.
@matteoT100 You can catch a clip of the Nigga Twins from the DVD The Freshest Kids. They were filmed at a DJ Herc party in the Bronx in the early 70's. The clip is not long, you can miss it with the blink of an eye.
@MrForcat Americans are fat now because they are brainwashed and poisoned and fed dead foods thanks to the corrupt government implementing the new world order population reduction plan. it started in the late 90's, thats when the chemtrails began too.
i dont think there will EVER been another form of dance as good as breaking. The sheer creativity and movement man, I mean come on, did you see the threesome and the guy on crutches? Absolutly incredible. Now compare that to the chicken noodle soup, the harlen shake, and the poo palace.......hahahaha
wish i could go back to the 80's. loved the hiphop electro breakin era. no fecking racist black and white crap, only battles on the lino n turntables lol
Media overkill fucked up the early 80s Hip Hop scene and opened the way for hard core Rap from the New York inner city like when T La Rock blasted out "Its yours" a totally hard ghetto Rap unlike the electro hip hop that youths were breaking to.
Get up a get on up get up get on up stay on the scene get on up like sex machine!!!:D love that song thank you James Brown father of breakin' R.I.P i dont know how the world would be like without breakdancing
Wow! that was my favorite dance in the 80s but now too bad that I have MS is not the same anymore those moves I used to do all of them not all hahaha later and after that I become a rocker and now I'm the best that I can be I'm Christian love God and Jesus and the Holy ghost! God bless everyone God is ♥♥♥♥
IM not gonna make a full out myself trying to spell but can any one spell wat he call bboys i thinks its street blah... but i like that and i wanna tagg it on a shirt... can someone spell it for me
You're actually witnessing the "death" of breakdance in this video clip. It totally lost its underground vibe when it began to be performed in such commercial and mainstream venues. It seems that all sorts of cultural movements in music, art, and style have the original "underground" people, who represent that underground well. Then the copycats come in who do not represent the underground whatsoever. And then you see it on McDonalds commercials. That's the death of a scene.
That's true, but it also did a lot for the careers of many breakers and poppers (at least the ones who weren't exploited by shady businessmen). RSC, for example. I definitely think it was exploited though.
@RpKingman Yeah, but you better be prepared to admit that , millions such as you, wouldn't know ANYTHING about this New York City Youth culture if it weren't for the media. Take 1 introduced Henry Chalfant to Rock Steady and it pretty much was the intro to the culture. A kid named Edwin introduced NYC photographer Martha Cooper to Dondi, same effect. DON'T FRONT ON THIS INFORMATION.
@Khultan It was already nearly dead by the time Crazy Leggs was getting into it. Hell, Frosty Freeze, himself was saying it was dying out long before the media did an expose on the NYC only ghetto youth past time.
RESPECT THE OLD SCHOOL. REMEMBER THE HISTORY

Media overkill fucked up the early 80s Hip Hop scene and opened the way for hard core Rap from the New York inner city like when T La Rock blasted out "Its yours" a totally hard ghetto Rap unlike the electro hip hop that youths were breaking to.

True, RpKingman.

Well said RpKingman, very profound analysis
mygoatisdead 2 years ago
@RpKingman Yeah, but you better be prepared to admit that , millions such as you, wouldn't know ANYTHING about this New York City Youth culture if it weren't for the media. Take 1 introduced Henry Chalfant to Rock Steady and it pretty much was the intro to the culture. A kid named Edwin introduced NYC photographer Martha Cooper to Dondi, same effect. DON'T FRONT ON THIS INFORMATION.
Khultan 1 year ago
@Khultan It was already nearly dead by the time Crazy Leggs was getting into it. Hell, Frosty Freeze, himself was saying it was dying out long before the media did an expose on the NYC only ghetto youth past time.
