This is good! I first learned about calypso from doing wii zumba and it quickly became my favorite dance style on there. It is nice to see how it is done in real life as opposed to on a wii console haha :P
@Caribbeandrumdance I understand your feelings about Zumba, however, I also appreciate the fact that Zumba has opened people's ears and hearts to other forms of music and dance besides the ones they see every day.
@lynnderful Well, not exactly. The music I've heard being used is all electronic. It may have been influenced from some traditional cultural music. In a folkloric class there would be live drums. Nothing blasted on a sound system is going to compare.
The one appreciation I do have for Zumba is that it has given permission to American's to almost dance. There are a lot of Americans who believe they can't dance at all, but they'll let themselves try a Zumba class because it's the new trend
Hmm ive done caribbean dancing for 12 years and this..was alright. There is a lot of improvement needed, the girl shows a lot of energy however the man needs a lot more effort in the movement. Otherwise it was a decent dance
@xkitsunex i wish someone could post as many of the sailor dance movements as possible. I know many of them are lost because they don't play as much Sailor as they used to... but if you find any... please send it to me.
This piece did not have very many traditional Sailor steps. The folklore is a dying art. I'm currently looking for funding to record and build a decent archive of traditional dances in Trinidad. The younger people are not studying their folkloric dances. We better get 'em 'for there gone! You'll see it all on this channel if and when it comes together!
The suit was fine...In the video description you said ,She couldn't believe it,found herself instantly out of breath didn't know how she'd pull it off;..It was hard to do.
I recommend getting some best village videos from Trinidad and Tobabgo. The performance was inspired by salior dance and there was some bits of it at the beginning. The foot work with the stick is the trademark of the dance, the african moves was best village. It was a good piece, and would be enjoyed in Trinidad.
Well done!
Greetings from Germany :-)

Ha, Ha, Zumba wii. Oh, my. I've not seen it, but I doubt it has anything to do with folkloric dance.
I'll try to post more over the next 6mo. to show clips of this exhilarating dance style.
Zumba has stolen moves and steps from real dance styles (and is legally profiting from this theft???)
There's something you'll experience, only through real dance though.
I encourage you all to go beyond Zumba!
Give yourself permission to dance.
You can dance!
Your ancestors danced! All of them
