@j123456789k1 It does slow the Mac system a little while it's running, but it's negligable, as long as you only give it a single core of the CPU, and don't give it more than 1GB of RAM. Also, it looks like it allows you to install Kaspersky Anti-Virus for free, but I'm not sure about that. And you'd only need it on the windows side, as your Mac would remain completely secure without an Anti-Virus, as files are sandboxed.
I was debating whether or not to get a Mac, I love how Macs work, but Macs can't run a lot of things out there. This might be the break between whether or not my next computer is a Mac or not!
When you say you used 1GB of ram, does this mean that It is split 1gb mac, 1gb windows ? does this partition always run? or only when parallels is open?
Even with 4GBs of RAM and VMware Fusion, I have never gotten a fast boot up like he's getting with Parallels. I've tried Parallels on a friend's computer and it's not that fast at all. I'm so confused about why.
I prefer bootcamp for windows since i only use the windows side for games when i travel. It does run games quite well, even on vista. Other than games I don't see why you would run windows on a mac since most of windows apps are compatible on mac in one form or another.
Not legally, no. The few who can do it are "hackintosh." And the thing is that they're not as stable, since Apple tends to pick components that work together- it's part of the way they're more stable, they cherry pick what chips are authorized to work together. Anything that doesn't match that profile (an illegally assembled computer trying to run OSX) won't let it start.
Hey Jon! Do you know how to activate sound for windows 7 running on parallels 4.0? I tried inserting the mac OS X install disk but it read it as a network location... Please help me!!
Everyone should get Windows Vista. Because you say it's slow and crashes alot. But that can only depend for what system you are running it on. Windows Vista should work great on a mac and NEVER crash. It would be 100% impossible for Windows Vista to crash on a Mac. Because Macs never crash! Or for what they keep on saying.
In Boot Camp, you'd be booting either to Windows or Mac OS X, not both simultaneously, thus the RAM in your system would be used to boot one or the other. As far as HD space goes, yes, you will dedicate a portion of it to install Windows and it's applications to.
so i installed parallels thinking it would run windows...so its telling me i have o enter a product key...what do i have to buy(how much)...i have a pc(vista) can i use the product key from that and the installation disc or do i have o buy a new windows program like vista...thank this would be a huge help!!!
Can you still get viruses on you're computer if you have Windows on a Mac? And if you do, would it just be on the Windows part or on Mac OSX also? Please reply.
So uhhh im having trouble trying to start up my parallel.... when trying to start up it says that two things failed. one was boot from hard drive and the other from cd/dvd rom. Help?
very good review. very good. but i had a quick question, can you make/try ms dos batch files with this? and what about windows itself? i quess you have to have a windows installation disk? thanks in advance and once again, nice review.
hey i have a quick question for you i know you can right click on a macbook or macbook pro by tapping with 2 fingers but i was wondering if it is the same with windows or do you have to do somthing else.
hi nice vid. im getting a imac new from apple and was wondering if i use a film editing software in the windows would it work as fast as it would on the mac operating system i.e. will it use the dual core and ram power of the mac. also could i load a copy of windows with crack not a original one.
i have a q for you. if you wanted to play a game on the windows thing would you buy a mac vertion of the game or do you have to buy the windos vertion of that game
parallels = bootcamp ....i heard about bootcamp and in order to change the OS u needed to restart the pc....i think thats better because u use all the hardware on only 1 OS....is this possible?
bootcamp is native, when you use parallels you're actually converting the instructions givin by windows to work for mac, it doesn't go straight to the processor, which makes it slower. bootcamp is native, it's exactly like having a pc with the same specs
when you pushed play at around 1:40, how does windows boot up so quickly? it takes me about a minute or so for my macbook... is it cuz yours is a powerbook?
I would love to know how to backup my windows partition with parallels. I plan on using parallels to run my programming programs for my bachelors in computer science. It may get pretty intense, so i hope parallels will handle it, and it will be nice to have a backup in case something happens.
Do you think Parallels will be fine running more advanced programs, like 3D animation software, program builders, etc? I mean, if normal windows can run it, parellels should run it just the same?
How do you install the window media program for Mac? There is a 9.0 version of Microsoft window media for Mac but I don't know why I could not down load it.
I don't think it comes with anything, I think you just get a windows CD (one that you would use to install windows) and you choose. So, you could probably even use a Win98 on here.
hey hows things man? yeah great vid just got a macbook pro for university and have always used a pc with the parallels software am i still able to use my photoshop song vagus etc that i used on my pc? thanks sanders

Seeing as though you devoted 1gb of ram to parallels and my whole computer has 1gb of ram, would it my more economical to install XP into bootcamp?? Have you figured out how to get a Windows formated ipod to be recognized by windows? When I plug in my Ipod mac recognizes it and you can see it then parallels says do you want windows to take over. if you say yes it ejects it from mac and then windows cant find it because the "do not disconnect" stops flashing on the ipod.
Bootcamp requires you to restart your computer into windows while parallels allows you to run windows while running mac. Windows will run in a window (or full screen)
jon, do you know if there is a way to increase the video resolution? the max res for the Guest OS is 800x600 or something like that (32bit color), but i actually need more than that and i cant find a solution. If you happen to know, please lemme know. Thanks.
Great video! I hope that "4lakers" means you are supporter for the LA LAK, I too was, when they still played decent bbaal in the 80's... :o)
Anyway... I have a (maybe stupid) question.
With Parallels you must first install winxp or does it come with it? How do you do this? Can you still install apps on your windows partition? I am planning on switching to mac in october and I will need to use some video apps I have now on my winxp...
im gonna switch pc for a macbook :). judging by all your videos after the unboxing of your macbook pro id say youve become a real Mac entusiast. and thats a good thing haha

You said that you gave windows 1GB of RAM. Can OS X only use the rest of your RAM then ?
If you want to install a program on windows, where are the program-files located ?
Did you create a new partition for windows ?

Have you figured out how to get a Windows formated ipod to be recognized by windows? When I plug in my Ipod mac recognizes it and you can see it then parallels says do you want windows to take over. if you say yes it ejects it from mac and then windows cant find it because the "do not disconnect" stops flashing on the ipod.

is parallels the same as bootcamp??????? im thinking of getting bootcamp but now im confused
XDsXDmXDiXDLXDeXDy 4 years ago
Bootcamp requires you to restart your computer into windows while parallels allows you to run windows while running mac. Windows will run in a window (or full screen)

jon, do you know if there is a way to increase the video resolution? the max res for the Guest OS is 800x600 or something like that (32bit color), but i actually need more than that and i cant find a solution. If you happen to know, please lemme know. Thanks.

Hi Jon!
Thanks in advance for your help!
Cheers, Federico

yup, big lakers fan. Unfortunately, you have to buy your own copy of windows 2 install. Its very easy, and parallels instructs you how.

im gonna switch pc for a macbook :). judging by all your videos after the unboxing of your macbook pro id say youve become a real Mac entusiast. and thats a good thing haha

for things that advanced, i think your best bet is bootcamp.
