@j123456789k1 It does slow the Mac system a little while it's running, but it's negligable, as long as you only give it a single core of the CPU, and don't give it more than 1GB of RAM. Also, it looks like it allows you to install Kaspersky Anti-Virus for free, but I'm not sure about that. And you'd only need it on the windows side, as your Mac would remain completely secure without an Anti-Virus, as files are sandboxed.

I prefer bootcamp for windows since i only use the windows side for games when i travel. It does run games quite well, even on vista. Other than games I don't see why you would run windows on a mac since most of windows apps are compatible on mac in one form or another.

Not legally, no. The few who can do it are "hackintosh." And the thing is that they're not as stable, since Apple tends to pick components that work together- it's part of the way they're more stable, they cherry pick what chips are authorized to work together. Anything that doesn't match that profile (an illegally assembled computer trying to run OSX) won't let it start.

Everyone should get Windows Vista. Because you say it's slow and crashes alot. But that can only depend for what system you are running it on. Windows Vista should work great on a mac and NEVER crash. It would be 100% impossible for Windows Vista to crash on a Mac. Because Macs never crash! Or for what they keep on saying.

In Boot Camp, you'd be booting either to Windows or Mac OS X, not both simultaneously, thus the RAM in your system would be used to boot one or the other. As far as HD space goes, yes, you will dedicate a portion of it to install Windows and it's applications to.

bootcamp is native, when you use parallels you're actually converting the instructions givin by windows to work for mac, it doesn't go straight to the processor, which makes it slower. bootcamp is native, it's exactly like having a pc with the same specs

I would love to know how to backup my windows partition with parallels. I plan on using parallels to run my programming programs for my bachelors in computer science. It may get pretty intense, so i hope parallels will handle it, and it will be nice to have a backup in case something happens.

I don't think it comes with anything, I think you just get a windows CD (one that you would use to install windows) and you choose. So, you could probably even use a Win98 on here.

If i have a macbook with 1gb of Ram, and get parallels, how much ram should i give to it. It's not really a neccesity running XP right beside OSX but it is pretty cool, however, i'm more for speed. The Mac equivalent to Microsoft office is called Microsoft Office: Mac, it's the same product, but now it's compatible with Macs. The other option is iWork '08. which is pretty much the same thing... but with Microsoft Office: Mac it's completely compatible with PC's which is great for school projects and such

Have you figured out how to get a Windows formated ipod to be recognized by windows? When I plug in my Ipod mac recognizes it and you can see it then parallels says do you want windows to take over. if you say yes it ejects it from mac and then windows cant find it because the "do not disconnect" stops flashing on the ipod.

Bootcamp requires you to restart your computer into windows while parallels allows you to run windows while running mac. Windows will run in a window (or full screen)

Anyway... I have a (maybe stupid) question.

With Parallels you must first install winxp or does it come with it? How do you do this? Can you still install apps on your windows partition? I am planning on switching to mac in october and I will need to use some video apps I have now on my winxp...
