I agree with artrigue. The fact that she smiles and scans the ticket again shows that this particular part of the clip was staged. But that doesn't take away from ultimately what Derren is trying to show. The end clip provides the very point that some people can easily be manipulated. The girl at the end has no idea what is going on.

Each tag has bar codes. The computer decides who wins. There is no way, ...unless this is an old fashioned track that is not up to date with the technology.

I admire Derren Brown and think that he is an an absolute genius. However, there is no way that this is real. Perhaps Derren has the ability to do this for real, but the legal and technical ramifications of actually attempting it on television make it highly unlikely.

actually I think it would be completely accessible from the legal standpoint. Just ask the track owner if you can do this, for them it is a form of a free security audit so long as the winnings are returned. But, the fact that she scans the ticket, that is designed to get around the very trick he is demonstrating. So I do think it was staged.

yeh i agree about the legal terms, also advertisement for the track lol. but i dont think it was staged, if for example at a till your not concentrating and its 15 pounds change are you saying its unlikley that someone could give 25 or 16? if hes tricked the person into that state of mind anythings possible, its kind of like a quick hypnosys, unless the screen came up in big red writing, FAIL or something.

anyway im no expert as you can probably tell lol but i think its real

well its not how these things work anymore:

1. the cashier verifies the ticket is not suspicious (which you _could_ game) ..

2. the cashier inserts the ticket into the register

3. the register reads the ticket ... I'm pretty sure that if the ticker isn't readable you can force a by-hand read of your winnings, but that considerably ups the odds.

4. if you have a winning ticker, the reigster returns the winnings to the cashier.

this was a marketing film for the new registers back in the late 80s

don't know what to tell you about that.. but I remember talking about this film in class in high school... and that was a long time ago. I am absolutely positive about the bulk of the film ... but it is possible they re-shot parts since then. Maybe that is how the host is someone who is only 2 years older than me.

watch the bird in the window, her reaction gives it away, watch her face when derren starts talking. if theres one thing he's taught me it's how to read people, this was pre-aranged with the dog track to decive us and the old guy. that being said i still love derren and endorse him as the real thing.
