Because the people who made the bridge wanted it taken down so they could replace it with a new one.

Buildings can't just be picked up and moved aside when you want to replace them, you need to blow them up and then clean up the pieces! Haven't you heard of demolition?!

Trust me, the bridge will not be replaced with a new one! Why? Because the environmentalist movement doesn't want a new bridge at all due to people using it as another fuel wasting avenue and avenue of pollution. Plus the Ferry industry would lose out if a new bridge went up in replacement.
