13 years ago i saw this in the theatre in London as part of my Drama GCSE, its so good to read comments that this still goes on because its one of the greatest plays. When i was a teenager and an ignorant little shit i thought it would be boring and wasn't really bothered, that was until graveyard scene. Its still one of the scariest things i have ever seen.
I saw this with my gcse drama group, she cane through the audience and we all just screamed, she scared the hell out of us all. And I'm sure it was a mask she was wearing.
In the version i saw she walked right through the audience!! I swear i've never had a worse experience! My friend grabbed me and i was right in the front row in the aisle and i turned round and gave a little scream because she was about a foot away!! And it wasn't a mask just make up. Terrifying all the more for it!
I saw it in Fortune theatre yesterday and I was unfortunate enough to have a seat on the end of a row and she came right by me, it was strange as you really did feel a cold sensation as she brushed passed!
when i saw it i thought so too cos her face was soooo white but i noticed the black shape of her eyes slowly blinked and i could make out her facial features that didnt seem fake so it was white makeup
Also, she does appear in this scene if you look very very carefully when the camera zooms out and you hear the eerie music; but because the scene is so dark you can hardly make her out in the video, unfortunately.
im nt easily scared but was absolutely terrified i saw it at fortune theartre with timothy watson as actor (he was amazing) and was terrified with amazing twist at the end
I saw it there yesterday, it is a really good performance and the bit in the church with the luminated cross is soooo earee. Like you i am not scared, but it gave me the shivers and freaked me out that night Lol
I went to see this play in London with my English class... Oh god it was scary. I was sitting near my English teacher, and he was hiding behind a coat! Claims he wasn't afraid... But EVERYBODY was. Haha.
When i saw this in London and he said "look there she is again" and the Woman in blakc walked in everyone screamed like mad, lol i was surprised no one did in this video
This play is amazing. Guaranteed to traumatise even those with nerves of steel. I'm going to watch it for the second time in January with my drama group, some of them have never watched it. Soon they will know i was not exaggerating >=)
i watched this on december 1st last year at fortune theatre it is so good!!! me and my friend were holding onto each other for most of it lol

Why is there no image of the woman herself? What does she look like?
kwerel33 2 years ago 3
Just a woman in long black clothing and a plain white mask.
hattyrare 2 years ago
Actually she's not wearing a mask, it's done with makeup; her dress is in the style of edwardian age funeral attire, slightly distressed.
jjobie 2 years ago
Well when I saw the play she was definitely wearing a mask.

its flour and water :)
thats what the guy who used to play 'The Actor' told us.
he also told us a funny story about another actor's girlfriend who dressed as her backstage and waited in the wings for him,
The REAL woman in black went off SL and she waited for him SR
he ran into her, screamed, then ran back on stage. The other guy was doing a monologue like "WTF"
sounded funny xxx

Yeah... Covent Garden ... in London's West End where all the theatres are :0)

I think the Fortune Theater's The Woman In Black has better lighting than this one.

This was the Broadway production that ran for a short time a few years back. There are some differences between this and the original version.
