CLEVELAND - The American Civil Liberties Union asked a federal judge on Monday to block the March 4 presidential primary in Ohio's biggest county if it switches to a paper ballot system that doesn't allow voters to correct errors.
The lawsuit argued that the proposed paper-ballot system would violate voters' constitutional rights because it doesn't allow them to correct errors on ballots before the ballots are cast.
that question shouldn't be asking the candidate but to the people. the CEO/Boss, do they care if their employee going to vote? If I am the boss, I will motivate my employee to go vote on that day. That is part of giving something back to the community should already mention in the business plan.
I wouldn't say he was apathetic at all... He is probably the person most concerned with getting ALL the cotes counted as he clearly has the largest following...which will predictably be attacked in many different ways similar to the 2004 elections...He has many more things to get excited about. he was succinct..which is not common among politicians...but HE is a STATESMAN..not a politician. Viva la Difference'.
i have to say that I was disappointed by RP's apathy in this case - think this issue is critical for freedom and it blew my mind at how nonchalant he was.
BUT, for him, for understanding the constitution and being eloquent up to this point, I will give him a pass. but dare i say that his slip is on the record.
haha yea me too kinda disappointed by RP's apathy on a voting reform. But me too would give him a pass since, just because our age disparity, he apparently still don't believe the a computerized system due to his limited understanding of technology, anywayz, RP 2008!
I thought he was really clear that is it a state decision, and he likes the freedom of voting early in Texas, so if he was running for state office, he would be more excited about it. I really liked his comment about changing the date to April 15th.... lol go Dr. Paul
As a computer programmer, and someone who paid attention to the last election, he's not suggesting we don't use technology but that there should still be a paper trail. In Ohio last time around thousands of computer counted/paperless votes "went missing".
Does it matter if it was intentional or just a bug in the software? For something this important, there needs to be a backup system.
You are far too trusting of technology and those who wrote the software to be both competent and honest.
I thought he was really clear that is it a state decision, and he likes the freedom of voting early in Texas, so if he was running for state office, he would be more excited about it. I really liked his comment about changing the date to April 15th!
See Ron Paul wins elections... he's a 10th term congressman. Why would he change the system, that works for him? -- besides the fact that at federal level its a whole new level... and you have the fraud from previous elections..
Good question. It's a bit off beat though. What was most interesting I think was that he listened to each question and answered it direectly. He votes with carefull thought and appreciates a paper trail to validate his choice.
It is what his campaign is all about; freedom to choose and personal responsibility for making that choice.
"I'd like to see the elections held on April 15th..so people would know what they're voting for, maybe we could get a lot of people thrown out of office"~Dr.Ron Paul Damn brilliant!!!
WhyTuesday, you proved 2 things. Ron Paul is the smartest candidate, and he doesn't run away from a question like sooo many others.
I've heard Other politicians say the same thing about voting on april 15th even the crooked mayor of the little city I live in said it a year ago when he won reelection by "1" vote out of a town of 2800 only about 800 bothered to vote
Ross Perot also said it the first time clinton won. you act like this is some new "eureka!" idea thought up by Ron Paul.
Ron Paul didn't know why elections were held on Tuesday! and he just repeated a phrase he heard from some other politician about voting on april 15th I hardly think that constitutes brilliance
he is right about it getting a lot of people thrown out of office though
For the record, I wasn't the one who said he was brilliant. All I was saying is that using someone else's quote doesn't necessarily exclude that person from being brilliant.
What has he done?
Voted against the Iraq War.
Has never voted to raise taxes.
Has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
Has never voted to raise congressional pay.
Has introduced legislation to abolish the IRS, federal income tax and the federal reserve board.
"In fact, Dr. Paul doesn't participate in the congressional pension program and even gives back a portion of his congressional budget each year! While plenty of our representatives are treating themselves to indulgences on the tax-payer dollar- Ron Paul doesn't even spend his entire government-alloted budget!"
...and...he told you this? or is this something you just heard? if so surely there is actual public record I sure would like to see the source on that
Because the money has already been apropriated. If he doesn't find a way to return it to his district, then it'll get pumped into other federal projects or other earmarks. The money's already gone by the time earmarking goes around, Dr. Paul is just voting on ways to spend what has already been agreed upon to be spent.
Glad I'm not the only one who knows ALL congressmen must do this to get projects such as road repair done in their district. If Congressman don't put in their "2 cents" for earmarked funding, the money will be taken by their fellow politicians. It's B.S. but, that's our current govt. at work!
He's probably been reading the Constitution where it shows that there is no such thing as a "national" election and that it is the responsibility of the states to fix their own damn problems.

Oh! How silly of me to think the president could have some influence in getting the states to pull their collective heads out of there ass.
A message that energizes people won't do anything to combat the problems with the American election process.
And to imply that expecting a presidential candidate to have some idea of how he could help the states deal with a pretty critical issue is some how un-constitutional is absurd.
There's already TOO MUCH meddling by the National government in state election affairs. It's the reason that the 17th Amendment passed so easily - people were duped by the National government into believing that more "democracy" was a good thing.
We could also change it to the 20th of April, but then half of the American populace would be too stoned to get up and vote.

Previous commenter is ignorant of Paul's Positions.
Freedom is a message that people of all groups will embrace.
Of course Racists will endorse the free speech candidate.
Would you prefer that we discriminate against their born rights just because their position is reprehensible and repulsive?

What exactly DOES constitute brilliance in your estimation?

again using a quote he heard some where else does not make him brilliant you were the one who said he was please tell me just what he has done
at any time that makes him brilliant.
and my estimation of brilliance sure doesn't include any politicians especially any one in congress

once again it sure dont put him on the brilliant list!
we all know his impressive libertarian voting record but how does this qualify him to be president when he
voted against the war...didnt help
has never voted to raise taxes...didnt help
has never voted for unbalanced budget...didnt help
and my personal fav..never voted for congressional pay raise... yet he still collects that fat check!
