  • that runway short for true though

  • lol

  • How could someone dislike this?

  • i thought they were gonne play the song Swedish House Mafia - One

  • Grumman Goose?

  • For a plane that was designed to work in the Canadian Arctic this runway is nothing.

  • I have a toy aircraft carrier, i'm pretty sure THATS the smallest runway in the world!

  • Sure, it's short, but look how WIDE it is!

  • WINAIR RULES!!!!!!

  • How come the Twin Otter has their throttles on the upper console?

  • @Amar7605 because it makes it easier to get in and out of the cabin.

  • @mrpilot102 I suppose, but is that really a big deal?

  • @Amar7605 If you are loading the plane full of bulky cargo it's a big deal.

  • @mrpilot102 I guess that center panel takes away a lot of space. You can add another box there. Thanks for the information!

  • Awesome video. These pilots should buy some Rain-X

  • @yynnmmbb Low budget airline..no toilet paper in the lavatories either.

  • A very nice runway ......... but not the shortest in world!

We have in Germany on an island called Helgoland EDXH three runways

480 Meters, 371 Meters AND the winner is 258 Meters.

    These three runways 15/33; 03/21 and 06/24

So you can always land with upwind. you must have 100 hours minimum experience as PIC due these short runways ....... if you fly oversea to this island you possibly MUST land for lack of fuel.

You are welcome up to 5.7t MPW ......... we see us!

  • @ThePilot314 If we want to get into semantics there are ones in Australia even shorter than that, I've seen 200m strips, but they aren't paved runways to be fair and they aren't licensed aerodromes, usually ALAs but still smaller.

  • @foath1

    Hello to Australia!

No problem my friend .............. I only wrote this hint due the title

    "World`s Shortest Runway"

May be that - worldwide - we will find shorter runways in licensed aerodromes

    than EDXH .............. no problem.

    Best wishes to Australia

    Jo

  • @ThePilot314 Well we can agree this isn't it, in Australia your back garden can be a runway...

    I shall let every know... : P

  • @foath1

    Hi friends in Australia.

What lucky fellows you are ....................

we even get problems requesting a permission for landing a NOT LOCAL Cessna on an glider field in the vicinity :-((((((

I HAVE to move to Australia!!!!!!!!!!!

Best wishes from the very over governed Germany

    Jo

  • I declare a piece of paper on my desk as runway. Now it is the world shortest runway. So, what do you say now? :-D

  • It's the shortest commercially operated airstrip in the world. And yes, it's Winair who has a service there multiple times a day. They fly Twin Otters as far as I know. When I flew with them I was very happy with their service. They offer services like e-tickets, and automatic transfer of your luggage to a connecting flight. Very few companies in that area offer that level of service. I was pleasantly surprised by the level of service Winair offered for such a small airline.

  • I think the X stands for "Pull Up Here)!

  • Piper j-3 Cub?

  • nothing flaps can fix.

  • @DranQNitrouS thanks dude!!!

  • Would at twin otter get of there?

  • wow you can see it's short???

what else, what is that plane??

  • Well I rather do Saba airport than lukla!

  • Surely the shortest runway is on an Aircraft carrier.

  • Honduras has terrible runways

    Coming from a Honduran

  • I thought the shortest airfield ever was Potts Field, Wisconsin (42m, 137.7 ft) AKA 0WN5

  • @NFSKing It is. According to the AirNav database, the airport's sole turf runway is 150x50 feet.

  • Take a Pilatus PC6 Porter and you can taxi to the middle of the runway and still take off :P

  • its not the shortest .

  • I saw a diff video of the same thing that said this was a saab 340..... but im not positive

  • @DontSkrewWitMe nope. Twin Otter. Dead giveaway are the power levers located on the Upper panel, unlike most aircraft.

  • AHHH...Ahh...ALLAH, screamed the pilots during takeoff

  • how long is the runway?

  • @101silentkiller I think it's about 1200 ft. Pretty damn short.

  • poor pilots flying this dinosour, they probably didnt have enoufh cash so they can be flying a turbine jet or something

  • and wtf was that???

  • fuck that!

i'd die str8 away if i heard that noise in a plane.

  • well big, woopidy doooooooo

  • wow the runway is so short that the engine needs to make a full thurst power at brakes !

  • Yea... a typical departure procedure.

I do that in a Warrior, which is around 72nm from the sea! Just ensures the engine is ready to go as may have been shut down or idle previously.

I know I wouldn't want an engine out on departure, especially at Saba!

  • no! thats not a freekin 747! cant you hear the prop? and the throttle in the cealing!

    -_-

  • if the runway is 400m then there's no way a 747 would use it

  • duh.

  • i was replying to the guy that claimed it was a 747

  • no it isnt u stupid ass

  • is this a Goose?

  • A Beaver will do it in half the distance !

  • There is one even shorter. I thought in Germany, I'm not sure. That Rwy is 300 M.

  • yep - Baltrum EDWZ, 360m

  • fuLL poweR !! .. This is Twin Otter righT ??

  • @astoniz Yes, you are correct!

  • Full Throttle!!!!

  • That's why there still space for crafts such as the twin otter and other props.. most strips in the world don't have perfect and standard condition ; ) good movie

  • WHAT TYPE OFF PLANE IS THIS

  • Twin Otter

  • @henryandwater you can tell by the sound eh?

  • @DevinL16 What with the throttle on the ceiling, the look of the cockpit, and that it's one of the only airplanes that fly into Saba, you can pretty much piece it together.

  • @DevinL16 The prop levers on the roof and knowing that they are the main aircraft operated from SABA

  • how is this a shitty plane?

  • twotter

  • Twin otter or Dash 6 both names

  • and now, everybody knows a shorter runway, lol

  • I'm waiting for the reply that goes something like "there I was at 20,000 feet with 100% humidity surrounded by Migs and I was armed with only a slingshot"

  • @scottn7cy Slingshot!? oh, we used to DREAM about having a slingshot! ;)

  • @scottn7cy Pfft slingshot? You don't know how easy them slingshot jockeys have it! I didn't even have a slingshot, had to open the cockpit window and punch the MiG pilots through the canopy ....

  • @pubuman hahaha... nice one...

  • @scottn7cy Ha ha I Lol'ed at your comment :D.Some imagination you got there :3.

  • @scottn7cy there I was at 20,000 feet with 100% humidity surrounded by Migs and I was armed with only a slingshot

  • I landed a piper warrior on a runway i wouldn't say was more than 1000 feet long. It was a private strip and I knew a guy there. Taking off was really tricky because of trees at the other end but fortunately i had a strong headwind.

  • You want a short runway? Back in the early 1950's I used to fly a Piper Tri Pacer off of what was known as the Nyeri Hump in Kenya East Africa. It was as little over 200 meters in length, and had a 1in 5 elevation as it was on the side of a large hill, and the surroundings were bamboo forest. Take offs were hairy, but landings were even more heart thumping due to the up hill incline, and strong up drafts from the valley floor.

  • good coment because if a twin otter can take off here it is not the shortest. but they do have good short field takeoff performance. just a small mistake on his part about the shortes runway. BTW good vid.

  • I think its the shortest commercially served runway in the world.

  • landing at Horta, Faial is also mega cool.. or Hobart Tasmania; you're like touching the water.. at the very last moment there's finally the runway ;) I'm flying from Amsterdam to Melbourne on BA/ Qantas via Heathrow & Hongkong.. 3x potential amazing landing.. it's grrrrreat to watch these videos haha luckily I always have a pragmatic feeling that of it happens, it happens..

  • No it is SABA and it is not the shortest runway it is the shortest commercial runway. there are shorter runways than this.

  • WOW that pilot is good!!!!!!!!

  • dumb -_-'

i bet u saw nothing just like all ppl here -_-

  • well it's most likely to be lukla airport on top of the mountain.

  • I didn't see anything

  • yeah... RobertGary1 is right... I've landed on shorter runways too, but this one looks small too... so how many meters does it have bro??

  • Who says this is the shortest runway. I've landed on several runways shorter than 400 meters. I guess you guys have never heard of bush flying.

  • The runway on the Duene at the Island Helgoland is only 258m long. You need special training/permission to land and start there.

  • It's a Winair TwinOtter

  • This is not a Beaver, as they don't have overhead throtles. Its definitely a DHC-6 Twin Otter. See

tinyurl full stop com slash dlcye5

  • looks like the inside of the Grumman Goose to me.

  • Nope. The Grumman Goose has a quad instrument panel (L&R Manifold Pressure and L&R RPM) hanging down on the right of the overhead throttles. The Goose also had two semicircular blister windows. If you are old enough to remember "Tales of the Gold Monkey" you'll know what a Goose looks like.

    Google RK_0603_03610_TwinOtterCockpit

Also the Goose has a couple of 450HP Radial Engines, the sound (or rather the growl) of which are unmistakable. This aircraft is turboprop powered

  • I agree with efesair. it is a DHC-6 ive jumped out of them enough times lol

  • no, it is either a Otter or a Beaver. made by de havilland in canada. looks like a twin, should be early model Otter. also known as Twin Otter or DHC-6

  • yep that's a DC-3

  • WOW, very short!!!!!

  • very shot dont even have to fly

  • Waste of time

  • Maybe shortest land air strip. But an air craft carrier is MUCH shorter.

  • Yes, but there the planes don't start only by own strength...

  • True, but a carrier is an air strip none the less! Please note that i still have MUCH respect for these pilots. landing here is something that i could never do, thats for sure.

  • Hey-think back to the days before catapults. Yorkton class carriers didn't have 'em, deck legnth 250 meters. They just pointed the thing into the wind and hoped for the best

  • Right. But those planes were lighter and much more stable (aerodynamically) than todays fighters.

  • Saba doesn't have a catapault or arresting cable

  • lol, i figured that. If it was any shorter it would need it!

  • Sorry mate, but Out Skerries airstrip in Shetland is 360 metres long, with a house at one end and a hill at the other.

  • worlds shortest runway... my backyard:D

  • ok la tu pendek tu

  • Thats My PriDe And Joy .. !!!!!! Saba The UnSpoiled Queen ..

  • 1) They're holding onto the ceiling because that's where the throttles are on a Twin Otter (DHC-6)

    2) It's Saba in the caribbean, the shortest commercial runway for fixed wing aircraft, 1200ish feet

    3) a DHC6 will have no trouble with that takeoff/landing distance.

    4) it's a turbine(jet) engine with a shaft that drives propellors (Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6), so it sounds like a jet because it is.

  • Woooo! Brynen knows his stufff!

  • Is it shorter than Lukla, Nepal? Check out vids on here of Lukla...that place looks downright nutty. Short runway, mountains all around. From the vids I watched looks like the DHC6 is the common carrier there as well.

  • Brynen, way to go. I hate listening to the kiddos on here actin' all cool and dissin' everybody with their complete lack of knowledge. Ok, that was the old guy's way of talking trash. It is nice to run across someone who knows what they are talking about every once in a while. You are correct on all points except that I can't confirm #2. Can you point to a source for that? We routinely do commercial flights into grass strips that are shorter in New Guinea. Maybe grass is the difference?

  • i believe the one at skiathos is shorter

  • what are they both holding onto on the ceiling and why???

  • Throttle is on the roof looks like, probably flaps also. They were probably manipulating the flaps while taking off to reduce drag, then lowering them at the last second to help get into the air.

  • It is also standard procedure for both pilots to increase the throttle together.

  • is that only for a multi engine aircraft

  • Flaps are used for short takeoffs, I think.

  • flaps are used on all take offs.

  • Unless you fly a J3 Cub.

  • Not quite. It also depends on the plane.

  • (That was in reply to splatty123.)

  • and the take off distance, and weather conditions

  • Or a C152.

  • the stewardesses had just re decorated the cockpit celing and were holding the paper up till it dried..quite ovbvious ;-)

  • I would love to see a take off from outside!

  • What's the name of the airport???

  • Juancho E. Yrausquin.

But it's not the shortest runway in the world.

  • True, the shortest is some runway that is less than 200 feet long. I think only one person flies out of it because it is in the middle of the woods and is a grass strip. I think the guy who takes off in 50 feet flies on it, he must own it.

  • I beleive the shortest runway is Potts Field somewhere in Wisconsin... I'm pretty sure, but I could be wrong. I love flying into and out of this airport and St. Barthelemy Island in FSX

  • Ooops, didn't realize my mom was signed in to Youtube, I meant to post it under MixWizard

  • OWN5 is the identifier. That runway is 150feet long and is grass.

  • is this the twin otter? i think it is

  • yea it is notice the throttle on the overhead panel.

  • exactly :D

  • That would suck to loose an engine on takeoff roll.

  • lol

Pilot 1: One of our engines is out!!

    Pilot 2: ah shi..BOOOMMMM!!!

  • lol then the cliff AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH LOL then slash haha we made it lol

  • You loose arrows not engines.

  • Ground loop.

  • who te hell wants to stretch his arm up for the throttle?XD

its better to have it in the center on a box between the seats

  • Actually I love where the power levers are. Makes getting in and out of the back much easier..The Twin Otter is a workhorse and is designed that way for a purpose.

  • No you didn't. And no Naval Aviator ever called the "deck" of a carrier a "runway". And at 24, you'd still be in Primary Phase of your Naval flight training, far away from a carrier. POSER!!!!!

  • Can't get anything by you. You're sharp as a tack.

  • This is runway, but that thing is a ship

  • and carriers have catapults and cables.

  • gotta hold hands when taking off from here lol

  • no, its just a rule that the captain and the first officer must both have their hands on the lever inorder to apply power. its just a rule to prevent either one to be "acting smart"

  • lol, I know I know, "so that no one pilot can botch the flight because both of them took off, so both are responsible"

  • The video was worth it just to hear the sweet sound of a Twin Otter taking off.

  • that is not the shortest runway in the world

no idea why you think that.

  • he means the shortest commercially used runway i think. But im not really sure if it's the shortest.. Lukla is very short too

  • ahh...thx for the heads up

  • in japan i've seen a very VERY short runway!

    less than a mile (500m i think)

don't think that im crazy for saying less than a mile haha you see... norwegian might think i ment less than 10 kilometres haha (norwegian miles ar 10 KM each lol) ahahahahahahahahaXD

  • that aircraft looked like the Grumman goose because of the throttle hanging down from the roof of the aircraft

  • Thats sad, you know hwo many aircrafts have a throttle hangdown ?

  • not really but the set up looks just like the air crafts

  • TNCB isn'it?

    Very Short ahahaha

400m long RWY? KingAir350 could Fully MTOW maybe Taking off

  • nope its not TNCB its the little island of SABA!

  • pretty sure hamilton island is

  • I imagined an A380 taking off on that airport.. lol

  • Honestly it's a 1300' paved runway with a Twin Otter...really nothing special.

  • Actually, it's the world's shortest commercial runway, not just anybody can land there and most of the pilots that fly it can touch down and turn off at the tarmac without having to turn around at the other end.

  • I don't think you understand what I'm saying about Saba. It may be the shortest commercially served runway in the world, but by NO MEANS is it the shortest or hardest place to land in the world.

  • I agree with QWERTY2008 and VprPlyr14!

  • VprPlyr14 and papaoscaroscar neither of you act like a Private pilot matter of a fact if you guys ARE, both of you are a shame to the aviation community! winning a fight over the net is like a normal guy winning the special olympics!

  • yepp it's a goose! :)) the throttle is located in the overhead panel..

  • actually you will find that is more likley to be a twin otter

  • this is a grumman goose right?

  • DHC-6 Twin Otter

  • ye dfntly a goose!

  • Definitely not. Its a Twin Otter. The Y-shaped crossbar on the yoke is the giveaway... the Goose's yokes go straight into the instrument panel.

The throttles on the -6 are also overhead.

  • don`t try that with a bigger airplane

  • Talk about no second chances on that runway.
