  • I went hunting for something I could show my 19 year old son what influenced my anarchy years....and this was it. I literally wore this vinyl down to sheet plastic. I haven't thought of her since 1980, and now as a 49 year old woman, just the opening measures of this "song" brought a flood of memories back. Thank you so very much Necronomicon, for keeping these memories alive, and very much well.

  • IMO The best Toyah track ever....

Many an hour listening to her albums back in the day !

Seems a long time and another lifetime away now.

    Happy days.

    Thanks for the memory.

  • Necronomicon, you're a genius! Where did you find this? It's earlier than 80s I suspect, it sounds like the Toyah! Toyah! Toyah! version recorded at the Lafayette Club in Wolverhampton 1978.

  • Epic song!

  • arboria1

    she STILL IS 'Ace'..

    Thanks for sharing NC2000

  • yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes .........wild times....loooong ago....still great !

  • Great! singer! I am only person in my county who knowns her :)

  • If she hadn't gone down the commercial route she would of probably gone down well with the fledgling Goth scene with the Damned,Cure,Banshees, early Ants, Bauhaus, etc she was lumped in with them for a while before going pop. Most of that lot went on a lot longer than the bands who went pop and burnt out.

  • The meaning behind how this song came about, which is on her official website is insightful reading.

  • Agreed

  • I agree totally she was superb, Blue Meanings great album, shame what went on after.

  • Just like U2, Toyah was good before she was famous, maybe I'm just a Victim of the Riddle?

  • Ting Tings anyone?. Toyah was way ahead of her time.

  • Thanks for sharing. I had the documentary on Betamax & bunked off school to listen to The Blue Meaning album! Even saved pocket money to get my hair done like Toyah's by Keith@Smile. Adored this Melissa Kaplan dress the most. When commercial success attracted a different audience to the hard-core set that loved her cos they 'got' her I felt a sense of loss but I've grown up & have great respect for her strength of character. Toyah's influence on me as a teen steered me away from conformity-phew!

  • My fave Toyah song by a country mile.

  • great! thanks necronomicon!

  • my pleasure..hope you like the other stuff too.x

  • no need to ask : YES!

  • this is not the version frm warrior rock, thats for sure.... the drums sucks on this tune, where`s Simon??

  • This is the original pre-fame lineup of the Toyah band, with Pete Bush on keyboards and Steve Bray on drums. Pete, Joel and Toyah wrote the song.

Simon was in the 2nd lineup of the Toyah band and replaced Nigel Glockler.

This is the original version of song as can be heard on The Blue Meaning album, and still the best version IMO.

  • I'm pretty sure this is the version off the Warrior Rock live double album.

A song to listen to in the dark - but keep some garlic and a fire extinguisher handy in case you accidentally "summon" something!

  • I was agreat Toyah fan through the 80s,she woz great in her hey day i have got some of her latest stuff i will all ways love her.The vids realy bring it all back when some great music was around.I am all so dislexic Toyahs strength realy enspired me through my teenage years. What i cant see is why people tune in Toyah channels if they dont like her and then leave negative feedback.

  • iieeeeeyyyyaaaaaaaaaa toyah at her best, she preforms this so well live, gets the place rocking

  • Get bent strangledd68.

  • yo Katefan

I think you will find the documentary is already uploaded on the tube. Saw toyah do this in 1982 at the Ipswich Gaumont, complete with the little mirrors on her hands. I miss her. Nick

  • Yes, found it, thanks.

    Me too.

  • I saw her live too, twice.

  • Followed Toyah all over the place in the early 80's. You have to view her in the context of the time. We thought she was Ace. Our little sub group was called the Urban Tribesmen. To all you Angels and Demons out there - Hi. Sheep Farming was such an influence to a young keyboard player, so full of energy. Insects and Visions from the Blue Meaning are just collosal; straight for the jugular! I have that full documentary on video somewhere if anyone is interested in it being uploaded.

  • Oh please aboria1 upload it! I've never seen it, ever! Please, please, please!

  • Soundtrack from "Toyah, Toyah, Toyah" album, well good.

  • I aggree maddobbo!!

  • Just Brilliant !

    I miss Toyah

  • Fantastic stufff Necronomicon. Have you any other footage from this ATV Doc? Inparticular, I'd love to see Danced. Also, think you'll find it was filmed in 1978. Sweet 'n' Sour released the sound in '79. SO wish I was there to see it.

  • toyah my favourite of the 80,s great to see this again after 20 odd years brilliant!!!!!!!!!!

  • god she could sing and dance all night and in high heels no miming for her... gr8 stuff

  • hi has anyone got footage of the bbc programme were toyah had a mirror suit on??would be good to see it again.can remember buying toyah toyah toyah ,when i asked for it in the shop ,the woman thought i had lost me marbles.

  • I was going through a bad time in 1979 and i heard sheepfarming in Barnet LP and in 1980 toyah released it`s a mystery and i saw the light toyah is and always will be an inspiration. alex. manchester thankyou toyah

  • This really is Toyah at her best- so inspiring and totally original- this is her anthem, brings out the warrior in you!

  • The meaning of "Ieya" here :

have a habit of writing about extreme opposites: I often write about Christ and Christianity in hidden forms, and then the next day I'll write about the Devil and mankind. 'IEYA' is about mankind believing in ourselves so much that we believe we are immortal and can become our own gods, therefore challenging God as the Devil, in the form of the Devil; man being the beast.

  • i just love these 80,s classics most people dont know they exist my kids look at me gone out

  • feckin brilliant xx

  • She is such

a warrior, I love her... She is awesome

  • i heart toyah

  • this is fantastic, Toyah at her best

EVERYTHING she done after 1980 is shite

where did it all go so horribly wrong?

now sadly morphed into Bonnie Langford.

  • how could you be so demonic.

you don't like it that's fine. 'fucking die'? this world is shit because of heartless pricks like you who think your taste becomes the third reich standard for everyone else. toyah was doing her thing, it's not your cup of tea just let a lady thrive and express her art. the alternative? 1984.

  • 1984 was 23 years ago.

  • The book.

  • Which? Living Out Loud - enlightening biog. The Necronomicon - scary stuff and an insight into where this comes from. Fantastic times though - the best.

  • What a pointless comment. You must be so proud. Are you 8 years old yet?

  • Oh you are. That explains it then. Fool.

  • LOL, I think you lost the argument seesselberg.

  • fucking amazing vocals!

  • bless her cotton socks!

  • Not quite Toyah at her best, the zenith was the summer of 1982.

  • I've always loved this song from the very first time I heard it because it's so mystical and original and her voice rocks in it.

  • One of my Toyah favourites!!

  • i love david bowie and toyah...and everybody else too:D

  • toyah at her best
