Ive got one of these powered buy a 3000 pump... it pulls any thing that has landed on the surface and it gives your water a dust and debri free surface looks like polished clear glass. Pain in the the ass to keep cleaning tho but that shows its working. Cool add on product if you (like me) forgot to add a surface skimmer in the pond wall.
It's a surface skimmer so it doesn't directly clear the pond water color. It does however limit the amount of waste that sinks to the bottom which in-turn can reduce the "organics" & therefore prevent the likeliness of a massive algae bloom.
The surface of the 6" diameter weir only drops about 1/4" (depends on the strength of the pump) so it's unlikely any fish can make its way into the basket. What's prone to happen is the fish food will get skimmed into the basket
