@MrThebakugannerd C++ if an intermediate programming language, so you can also do low and high so it is cross platform and can control hardware to a certain degree. HMTL, CSS, PHP, are all WEB languages, they are interpreted and slow and can only run in a browser, can't make a program with that. Python, Ruby, Lua, JavaScript etc are scripting languages, cross platform and interpreted but slow and cant do anything hardware. Basically-easier=less practical and not a whole lot to do with it.
@MrThebakugannerd C++ is fast, compiles to machine code (unless it's .NET in which case compiles to bytecode or MSIL to be read and compiled to machine code at execution with just in time compiler) so it is fast, and direct. If you want a cross platform program that is not really designed to be hardware based or fast, go with a high level language, otherwise ALWAYS choose low level, will help SO much more in the long run. Believe me, REAL programs use machine code, not an interpreter.
@komboking495 You can use DevC++ to write and compile your programs. It is free. Or you could use Visual Studio C++ Express which is also free but is a bigger download.
@ArctGhost If you have coded in game maker (not just utilizing drag and drop but actually programming) then you might be able to move onto C++, if you have not, then maybe you should try actionscript first, even though that is scripting and not programming, you will have an idea how to program. C++ is not like game maker and its drag and drop at all, which is why I am saying if you just utilized the drag and drop features, then you might want to try actionscript first.
@BigDStudios16 Nah, I used drag n drop for like the first year and after that used just coding, so 4 years of the coding, so I probably will move onto C++
@ArctGhost Ya, I would utilize C++ then, if I were you. Just be prepared to write a bit of text based programs before you move onto graphics and sound.
Haha... 17 and just finished my first side scroller in C++ after reading intermediate C++ programming now on to the expert book... This is not expert programming....
i'm very interested in programming games, but unfortunately i'm not a kid. not for a long time. do you guys have any books out covering the same information as covered in classes? i would definitely buy them and learn coding by myself.
@cybodrive I recommend C++ How to Program: Late Objects Version (7th Edition) (How to Program (Deitel)) It the red book. That what a friend recommend to me. I be buying that book on Friday.
@RealProgramming4Kids Creating the best future game devs! I wish I was aloud to do this and tried it at a much younger age, I am now 16. This won't stop me from trying though.
What if we already are passed the basics of C++? I'm pretty new to it, but I've made simple games with masking, map editors, a SHMUP demo, etc. Is there a more advanced course? If not, it still sounds like a load of fun. :)
You can go to our website and look on the registration form for the course. Cost is dependent on the course taken and length of the course. There are also specific discounts related to groups, families, returning RP4K students and possibly others.
wow. your playing mega man. also, why learn c++ instead of java, gml, game maker 8, byond, gmk html5, etc...
c++ may be used the most, but that doesnt meen that it is the best

@Kiwikilljoy You should start with 2D games first, that way you know how to program, and you can work your way up to that later.

@RealProgramming4Kids Even though visual c++ isn't a programming language. Visual c++ is an IDE made by Microsoft for developing c++ programs.
C++, however, is a programming language.
