The Ska and Rude Boy genres(which fostered the emerging initially non-racist Skinhead movement)came out of the West Indies,i.e. Jamaica,hence the calypso sound from which Reggae also emerged.There was nothing "Nazi" about Madness. Their similarity or association with Racist Skins (who were co-opted by the BNP-British National Party) is chiefly to do with their closely cropped hair and wearing/parading of the Union Jack,which was done out of pride not Fascism-It's definitely 'nuttiest'!Peace :)
I'm surprised you think so, after all the given age in your profile suggests that as a Baby Boomer someone close to you must've been involved in fighting Hitler. I'm half German-my German granfather was in the Wehrmacht (Protective Forces) & the Luftwaffe (Air Force) before he got captured on the Eastern Front by Russian forces (adhering to another kind of Totalitarianism) and held until 1951 in a Russian Gulag. There is nothing funny about Nazism or tyrranical Despotism for that matter...
Here is some more (edited) info courtesy of vespatom 1! Ska started in Jamaica and predates reggae. It was taken up as the music of the mods in britain. When the mod movement progressed into the skinheads at the end of the sixties the skins took ska with them. The National Front (everyone spit) became associated with skinheads in the late seventies and these two groups, pro and anti NF skins, unfortunately became linked by the public thanks to the press. Do not get them mixed up! Nuff Said!
