I don't know much about feudal Tibet but what i know is that in the absence of contestation of power in the 1950`s pwer held by "monks and lamas", Chinese army did not need to intervene in Tibet and even less for imposing a cultural revolution which caused a great famine at the time and has been causing the assimilation or even destruction of Tibetan culture since then.

Beware of making statements like the Tibetan nobles had links with the CIA! This is not a fiction!

Take a good look at Tibet right now and you'll notice that the Tibetans are education in their native tongue for the 1st 10 years and then Mandarin, which is the language of business in China. Compare that to the Tibetans in exile, especially the 2nd/3rd generations in Dharamsala and you'll notice them speaking english and watching Bollywood. So the Dalai lama has no case whatsoever!
