...he had edited the manuscripts which Prabhupada wrote. When I read Prabhupada's life story, chanted the maha mantra and became vegetarian I instantly became a devotee. Reading the stories of devotees in the former U.S.S.R. (Salted bread) and Prabhupada disciples such as Jayananda, Vishnujana Swami and George Harrison deepens my Krishna consciousness. Prabhupada was humbler than a blade of grass. All he had was the mantra, faith and determination. I hope Croatia becomes Krishna conscious.
Thank you for the wonderful information on Prabhupada's early experience in USA. I am overwhelmed by the response to my short video on Croatian ISKON members. It was shot on the small Sony digital Cyber-shot camera. I am a filmmaker by profession. Now I am really eager to get back to Europe to film more of ISKON's spiritual services there!
Continued from below...He simply sat under a tree or on street corners and chanted the mantra on kartals. His faith in the holy name and his determination were rewarded by Krishna with Howard Wheeler, later to be initiated as Hayagriva. He was a very early and sincere devotee of Prabhupada, as he was now known by his handful of disciples. Hayagriva was there to save the day when FOUR ISKCON sannyasis started spouting mayavadi philosophy. Hayagriva knew the philosophy inside out as he had edited
The showing of the books and the mantra have inspired me to write this. Prabhupada had a tough time when he first went to the USA. No disciples, no clear advancement in his mission. But he reasoned that the fulfillment of the mission was secondary to simply putting the effort in to please Krishna and his guru. No-one had expected Prabhupada to do what he did. Even leaving India was considered ridiculously hard by other Vaishnavas. But Prabhupada went just to please Krishna and his guru.
