i am also married to a navajo so see we do get along very well and we do have children and we are proud to teach them! its only until recent that the govts of the tribes dont get along! as always politics cast a huge shadow of misunderstanding! but this dance is to honor our navajo brothers and sisters! we need to stick together as one to become stronger as a native american nation! there are also kachinas that represent navajo and are usually held for important dances!
i was told that in the earlier years when yei be cheii dances were held that the hopi villages would know when these dances would take place and would show respect to the yei be cheii by placing corn, melons and apricots or other things outside their homes for the yei to pick up prior to the bigger event to help them out with food for the ceremonies so although at times things werent always great between the tribes they did respect one another as far as the ceremonies!
im a navajo and a apache and i love this hopi people they are great people and i love them with all shi heart :p peace to my hopi brothers and sisters when i travel in the middle east and in the washingdon i remember the hopis and their elders and their prophecies, i respect them although i have my own beliefs as a dine who is fluent in dine bizaad i can see the sacredness of the hopi in our langauge dine bizaad i praise the great spirit for making them diyin ahee'he dii din'e da'hozhonii ba

im navajo and i love the hopi's we are brothers and i respect them to the max, us native american dont want to insult one another we only want to help and respect each other, because all of our elders told us we should live in peace and do good works
When Hopi's do a Navajo dance its not to insult them its to Honor them! Like Hopi's have dances to honor other tribes like Supai, Ute, & Navajo dances! So understand Dine's that when Hopi's do a Navajo dance its to HONOR them NOT to disrespect them.
It's not necessarily a Navajo dance you know it has Hopi words and some Navajo words. It's hard to explain but you know before you start getting mad you need to learn some things, you know?
Its cute... Maybe as Dine' people we don't like to make fun of how others dance, but if so that's that. At least they will always remember the Dine' (SHEEP KILLERS) :P
@mbenall3 good afternoon, from my understanding this dance is to honor the Navajo People. I dunno about Hopis but to the Rio Grande Pueblos, they believe that the mother of the Dine' (Asdzaan Nadlehe) was a sister to the Mother of the Pueblos. So we are related to them. Thats why most of our ceremonies and beliefs are almost alike.
@seantsosie I've heard of a dance that one of the Rio Grande Pueblo's put on, that was supposedly an insult dance, but ive only heard. I know that there is another dance that one of the Pueblo people put on that has all of their dancers dress like Navajo Mountain dancers, totally surprised me. Seen a picture of it once but I cant seem to find it. Just thought this video was one of those dances.
