please help a newbie, I'm new to the game and I intend to play it 100%.
So i have a question: is it normal for the npcs to speak only the first lines of the dialogues??. I mean, after I press continue they don't speak the other lines.
Ahh, Irenicus... he went down fighting, even at the very end, even beyond it, didn't he? It's just too bad there's isn't much to redeem in the character. He more or less got what he deserved.
But you know, I felt like this battle wasn't as tough as BG1's. Don't get me wrong, it took a reload, a couple of timely resurrections, and turning Slayer for me to beat Irenicus, but that all-star lineup at the end of BG1, combined with the traps, had me shaking my head.
When people Ask what the first video game u ever played was. Most kids my age would say pokemon., but i can proudly say i started out witj baldurs gate :)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I dont understant why the ps2 version of baldur's gate is soo damn good and the pc version is just crap... They should release the ps2 versions of it on the pc, it would be better than Diablo 3, lol and Baldur's gate was made in 2004.
@simbelanger1 I never played the pc versions but after watching a few videos i see its got bad graphics, not even 3d, and its not very fun for me to play a bad looking game. PS2 versions are 3d, very nice looking, and very fun. There are other simmilar games like "champions return to arms" that i really want on pc... Lol i would buy another ps2 to play them again.. Too bad they dont make them anymore, same with games...
@Andrius226 Just because it's not 3D, it doesn't mean it has bad graphics. It's like saying an amazing painting is worse than an average statue because it's not 3D. It has great 2D graphics.
@simbelanger1 Sure man. I am an old school guy and I prefer good 2D than bad or average 3D. I love Chrono Trigger and Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale for that.
I despise those idiots that go "Lolz game sucks it has 2d graffix" and I was going to be really vitriolic on that guy but I said screw it.
Amazing video by the way, added to favorites. My avatar is the Throne of Bhaal icon ;)
Personally I love Sarevok more than Irenicus but they both kick some serious ass.
@Andrius226 3-D changes everything, doesn't it? Nevermind the storyline, the atmosphere and the gameplay.
Comparing BG PS2 version to BG PC version is like comparing Battlefield games to Chess; the former is and always will be the poor man's (tastewise, skillwise and witwise) version by comparison.
@IP6000 PS2 versions have a story too, and the gameplay is damn incredible, specialy co op. Also i dont think you ever played PS2 versions, cuz you should know that its good. PS chess is more fun than battlefield (3)...
@Andrius226 You haven't played BG on PC. Judging from the gameplay of BG on PS2 that version doesn't have much to do with D&D rules or style and resembles yet another hack & slash type of game. And however enjoyable that game may be the PC version goes a different path; it's a thinker's game, meant for people who give a damn about the story and gameplay instead of unnecessary for this type of games things like 3D.
What? give a damn about story? The original Baldur's Gate "Trilogy" is probably the most epic and most well told tale in the form of computer RPG including some best written NPCs. it's the story and writing that sets the bar for original Baldur's Gate games not D&D rules.
@Andrius226 Dude, I played Baldur's Gate 2 in 2000. BG1 + exp, BG2 + exp...NEVER came to the consoles. You prob talking about Dark Alliance, which was crap.
@Inszz I just like hack and slash games (dungeon siege for example was the first game i have ever played on pc and that was epic) and i don't really care about story. Thats the same reason why i watch movies and never ever read any books. I mean, story is good but it have to look good to be interesting.
Is there like a modern day version of Baldur´s Gate? Like Champions of Norrath but for PS3 or the PC? Would be awesome if you could recommend anything similar.
I envy you. Replaying this game as if I had never touched it even once. I'd pay $1,000 to do that. :D

great explaination. if you take a risk of becoming PC, from NPc (playable character from not playable character), then you take a risk that I may don't wanna make your tasks you have for me. I may don't wanna play that scenario you had for me, which is in fact nothing more than your "limited world". You expect from me actions which are defined in your closeminded vision. but I may go forward and keep only main thread of a "game". it is really nice explaination.
definitely up there with Darth Malak, Saren/sovereign, and the archdemon.... anyone catching a pattern here? Savarok was cooler than Irenicus, i think, but hey BG2 was better than the first! kensai/mage ftw!!
@dageezerboi oh yea, kotor was the one game where the darkside was extremely appealing. I LOVED the ending, having Bastilla as ur apprentice, and killing jolee/juhani :) ........but i kind of liked being a good guy too. Also i liked malak, even though he was a ripoff of Darth Vader, but hey! that game had a better plot than ANY of the new trilogy of starwars movies....
I just started playing Baldur's gate 2 Shadow's of Amn, and I simply LOVE it. and Jon Irenicus too, but I still really don't understand.. what he want's from Imoen and the Main character.. Someone explain me, please? :)
@simbelanger1 No, I haven't played Baldur's Gate 1, because I can't find it anywhere. And yes. I have completed the game, but I'm from Finland, so I can't quite understand what they say in Baldur's gate II.
@Radwar99 how the fuck can people hate this game? I can see the age factor true.... but its so clear that this is easily one of the greatest games of all time! The only significant downside i think, is the dumbass AI companions and the spell system. Dragon age improved this, but they did not come close on plot or quest content.
I beat this game 7 times. three times solo with random chars (exploited some bugs with fighter) And my hours spent on this game is remarkable. Like if I told you, you wouldn't believe it. Too bad I don't know it.
There is a feeling I get when I hear this music. It takes me back to it's magic realm I spent so much intense focus on. I can feel my magic and feel the weight of the sword almost. I was where I belonged.
I'm just explaining the truth about what this game is, it's another dimension.
I watched every frame of the video until the end. Sooo pleasant memories about BGII and its music...
Apart from the excellent acting of Irenicus, this video is memorable for one more thing: the main character's dream with Irenicus' vision of life - the "this woman" example. I'm glad there is an youtube video with this part.
Stay tuned man. Soon I'll be posting ALL the Jon Irenicus cutscenes in one, single video. No editing though: they'll just be presented one after another. For the true fans. :D
Love the game, been playing it for years, but I've never been able to understand why Black Isle, with all their amazing ideas and AD+D knowhow, called the arch villain 'Jon'.
It just doesn't equate, they might as well have called him Bob, or Frank or something.
"No....don't do this.....I don't want to die!!!!!"
"Silence dog you have no purpose but to die by my hand"
My favorite line in the game, Irenicus's response is so evil and cold. Think I will do another run through of this soon with hundreds of mods and tweaks.
this was one of the best single player rpgs ever made. Like fallout and all those others. They dont make games like this anymore because developers now want to cater to little kids and there call of duty modern warefare 2 crap
This is epic, greatest game ever made... Why the fuck cant they still make games like this. Even bioware, the company that made this game has lost their way...
@grimgor771 to be honest, i really wish they would simply take this game and revamp it a little. better graphics, more side quests (second chapter really made it almost a free roaming game) more items, and allow Jon to be in the party!
@EHLRONTAY Certainly agreed... They have a whole bunch of portraits and voice sets for download to play a makeshift Irenicus... my biggest issue with the game is the lack of multiplayer... friggen TCP/IP mode never works unless you're in the same damn house as the other person.
@grimgor771 im looking to find people to play this multiplayer with who know what they're doing hosting a game, because it still has me by the balls. I love Forgotten Realms, and this game is a great game using a small section of it.
maaan, why did you not include that amazing dialogue between Irenicus and his former love? That is WHAT makes his fate so tragic... and so understandable.
GOD I love this game!!! And, GOD I love Irenicus. You metionned the external factors, but you didn't show it. I would have appreciated to see a fraction of his conversation with Ellesime. Anyway, great video, and the commentary are good for people who don't know the gane, but most of people who will watch this will know the game.
i seriousely do not see the facination in this game. maybe because im more of an RTS fan than an RPG fan. but I have downloaded the game and will give it a try.
Im having very annoying mouse flickering while playing this! Sometimes the character stops moving and the loot window thing disappears because of that.
@DemonRaziel123 Yea, like I said though, I don't know what I'm doing really haha. But you can only learn by doing. Just give me a private message on Youtube when you get the game!
ok i have a question idd like to buy a rpg game based on the Dungeons and Dragons system so basicly im choosing betwen baldurs gate 2, Neverwinter nights 1 or 2 or maybe Baldurs gate Compilation please reply
Well, it would be natural to insist on Baldur's Gate II here, seeing this video's content. I'm a little biased though, because I really enjoyed the game. Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 are both awesome games, but they're more recent too. Expect 3D graphics, whereas Baldur's Gate is in 2D. But I seriously think the story and setting in Baldur's Gate are by far superior to Neverwinter Nights.
There is no "true" online feature for Baldur's Gate. Multiplayer is by TCP/IP or modem, which means you cannot just find a game online and join it. You have to know the host, or be aware of the IP by any other means. By modem you need to know the telephone number of the host.
You are free to find friends and play with them online though.
@DemonRaziel123 i suggest playing BG1 first. for the story (it's in fact 1 big game and story) and to getva connection to the NPCs in BG1 who will show up in BG2. but also because BG2 has better gameplay, and if you play 2 first you'll end up playing 1 sooner or later anyway and be a bit disappointed by the lesser gameplay. don't get me wrong BG1 is AWESOME, but BG2 is even improved :)
You can import your character from BG1 into BG2, keeping lvl and stats
Baldur's Gate series all the way. I haven't finished Neverwinter Nights but I played it a little, it's okay but I just can't get used to it. I prefer the Infinity Engine (the one they used in Baldur's Gate 1+2, Icewind Dale 1+2 etc.) for D&D games.
1. It is too long and this isn't Jon Irenicus' biography. Most would agree that Jon Irenicus' most epic retorts happen before that dialog, throughout the game, except for one, which I included in the video.
2. I thrived to include as few spoilers as possible into my video. Considering as the dialog happens pretty much at the end of the story, it wasn't advisable to insert it.
I cannot be caged! I cannot be controlled! Understand this as you die, ever pathetic, ever fools!..... that is the most bad ass sentences ive ever heard in a video game!
@MultiMa1234 I agree, it's exactly at that point that I said to myself: he is the most amazing villain i've seen in any video games. I almost started rooting for him or at least, trully believed he was a worthy adversary.
@MultiMa1234 I agree, it's exactly at that point that I said to myself: he is the most amazing villain i've seen in any video games. I almost started rooting for him or at least, trully believed he was a worthy adversary.
Definitely. Baldur's Gate 2 is a different game, on a whole another level. It is an experience, both in storytelling and gameplay-wise. It is when you play games like BG2 that you truly can realize there are developers and directors out there who have a passion for their work.
@simbelanger1 absolutely agree. Baldur's gate is my favorite RPG of all time. while the graphics were not great, the amazing story line, ridiculous variety of conversations and events that can take place based on your reputation and previous actions, different party members, and huge amount of items made for an RPG experience i have yet to see in any other game. BG 2 may have been even more engrossing with the inter-character relationships. icewind dale was also decent- though more linear
Having played both, I can tell you that Neverwinter Nights does not even come close to Baldurs Gate 2. Of course, that is only my opinion...but it is also the opinion of most gamers. Try out Baldurs gate 2...you will not be dissapointed.
You are the BEST for uploading this. David Warner's voice acting in this game is truly amazing (along with the rest of the cast) but Warner's voice is just soooo... <3333
Thank you for making this video. Jon Irenicus is by far one of the greatest video game villians to ever be created. I remember thinking what a great villian he was after finishing the game. I will always remember him.
Great video, great quality. The only thing I had a problem with was the music levels were too high at some points, and the sentences you wrote were a bit clumsy. 4.5/5
for the party and have(try)change Jon redeem him, show him other way, the mod names is Longer Road, him have the original voices ...Until no have Baldurs Gate 3 try this mode
"Do you cling to the past or can you see through the pain?" I love that quote. Jon Irenicus is an amazing villian.. No one can hardly compare.. Such ruthlessness.. Oh I hope the finish Baldur's Gate 3 soon...I hope he's in it..I want them to make a game where we can explore his life.
Well, just for your information then: "Ganondorf is commonly portrayed as the incarnation of pure evil, greed and power. He is ruthless, cold and calculating seeing all others as either tools to be used or enemies to be destroyed." from Zeldapedia.
I can recall many villains in many movies and many games who have the same personality as him. The embodiement of hatred is simply a villain's way. How "best" a villain is, however, should not be defined only by its hatred of all life. :)
there is only one time Jon Irenicus show his true power to player character is in the time, the ballspawn get help to fight Irenicus is whit in help mads wizards in Spellhold.
See you dont get help is game over Jon Irenicus know all the secrets and use this in this advantage(all players is dead no save).Try do this and see...
Irenicus is a much better villain than even Darth Vader imo.

Radwar99 11 months ago 7
@Radwar99 how the fuck can people hate this game? I can see the age factor true.... but its so clear that this is easily one of the greatest games of all time! The only significant downside i think, is the dumbass AI companions and the spell system. Dragon age improved this, but they did not come close on plot or quest content.

I don't like Jon Irenicus. He's an enemy.
However, the actor who portrays him is great. David Warner from TRON.

Damn, Warner did a tremendous job for Irenicus.

DanielPowell357 1 year ago
I watched every frame of the video until the end. Sooo pleasant memories about BGII and its music...
Apart from the excellent acting of Irenicus, this video is memorable for one more thing: the main character's dream with Irenicus' vision of life - the "this woman" example. I'm glad there is an youtube video with this part.

@MDY4utube
Stay tuned man. Soon I'll be posting ALL the Jon Irenicus cutscenes in one, single video. No editing though: they'll just be presented one after another. For the true fans. :D
I've got it almost complete and it looks good.

Love the game, been playing it for years, but I've never been able to understand why Black Isle, with all their amazing ideas and AD+D knowhow, called the arch villain 'Jon'.
It just doesn't equate, they might as well have called him Bob, or Frank or something.

His elven name was Joneleth. He got stripped of his elven origins so he saw fit to rename himself to just "Jon". That's perfectly normal to me. :D

Even bioware, the company that made this game has lost their way...
grimgor771 1 year ago
@grimgor771 to be honest, i really wish they would simply take this game and revamp it a little. better graphics, more side quests (second chapter really made it almost a free roaming game) more items, and allow Jon to be in the party!
EHLRONTAY 1 year ago 2
@EHLRONTAY Certainly agreed... They have a whole bunch of portraits and voice sets for download to play a makeshift Irenicus... my biggest issue with the game is the lack of multiplayer... friggen TCP/IP mode never works unless you're in the same damn house as the other person.
grimgor771 1 year ago
@grimgor771 im looking to find people to play this multiplayer with who know what they're doing hosting a game, because it still has me by the balls. I love Forgotten Realms, and this game is a great game using a small section of it.

Anyway, great video, and the commentary are good for people who don't know the gane, but most of people who will watch this will know the game.

ok i have a question idd like to buy a rpg game based on the Dungeons and Dragons system so basicly im choosing betwen baldurs gate 2, Neverwinter nights 1 or 2 or maybe Baldurs gate Compilation please reply
DemonRaziel123 1 year ago
@DemonRaziel123
Hey,
Well, it would be natural to insist on Baldur's Gate II here, seeing this video's content.
That's it. My 2 cents.
simbelanger1 1 year ago
@simbelanger1 thank you i think ill go with baldurs gate but i have one more question are there any people still playing it online
DemonRaziel123 1 year ago
@DemonRaziel123
There is no "true" online feature for Baldur's Gate. Multiplayer is by TCP/IP or modem, which means you cannot just find a game online and join it. You have to know the host, or be aware of the IP by any other means. By modem you need to know the telephone number of the host.
You are free to find friends and play with them online though.
simbelanger1 1 year ago
@simbelanger1 ok thx again now the only thing left is to find some friends to play it with XD
DemonRaziel123 1 year ago
@DemonRaziel123 i suggest playing BG1 first. for the story (it's in fact 1 big game and story) and to getva connection to the NPCs in BG1 who will show up in BG2. but also because BG2 has better gameplay, and if you play 2 first you'll end up playing 1 sooner or later anyway and be a bit disappointed by the lesser gameplay. don't get me wrong BG1 is AWESOME, but BG2 is even improved :)
You can import your character from BG1 into BG2, keeping lvl and stats
IsilionNELE 1 year ago
@DemonRaziel123:

Where's Irenicus' dialogue with Ellesime ?
It really showed the depth of the character.
captainsealed 1 year ago
@captainsealed
It isn't included for 2 reasons...

Definitely. Baldur's Gate 2 is a different game, on a whole another level. It is an experience, both in storytelling and gameplay-wise. It is when you play games like BG2 that you truly can realize there are developers and directors out there who have a passion for their work.
A masterpiece, BG2 is.

BG 2 may have been even more engrossing with the inter-character relationships. icewind dale was also decent- though more linear
odie1610 1 year ago
@wingdflame
Having played both, I can tell you that Neverwinter Nights does not even come close to Baldurs Gate 2. Of course, that is only my opinion...but it is also the opinion of most gamers. Try out Baldurs gate 2...you will not be dissapointed.

It's not a version it's simply modded with the Icewind Dale spellcasting animations replacing BG2's animations. They're much prettier. :)

kecona 2 years ago 6
Well, just for your information then: "Ganondorf is commonly portrayed as the incarnation of pure evil, greed and power. He is ruthless, cold and calculating seeing all others as either tools to be used or enemies to be destroyed." from Zeldapedia.
I can recall many villains in many movies and many games who have the same personality as him. The embodiement of hatred is simply a villain's way. How "best" a villain is, however, should not be defined only by its hatred of all life. :)
