  • For the Cake Recipe you say similar to a pound cake... I keep hearing about the WASC (White Almond Sour Cream) Cake. Would that Recipe work? or would I have to go with a Pound Cake Recipe?

How long did the whole thing take to put together?

Oh, I do have a question. You say you chill the cake after applying the fondant so that the cake doesn't get air (bubbles?). What stops that from happening after delivery?

  • COOL!

  • how much did the fondont cost? and where did u get it?

  • very usefull! great vid :)

  • Also can someone tell me where to get the fondant? I think I said that right lol.

  • @JAydUBr6 Walmart has pretty much everything in their party/celebration/wedding section. Wilton is a wonderful brand. but yeah, like the other person said, buttercream and then fondant. but there are simple recipes for both. I like making my own fondant because the store bought kind is usually terrible and people tear it off anyways.

  • @cheshirecat89 Thanks for the input! I made my first 2 cakes the other night. Scroll down the comments to see what I made =)

  • Can some one please explain to me how I would go about forming the round layers? Is there a special round pan you bake the layers in one at a time? And is it just regular cake frosting being used for the interior to hold them together with regular cake frosting for exterior as well? No wax or anything? Sorry I'm new to this and really wanna give it a try. Thank you.

  • @JAydUBr6 Well, the layers are just made with simple round cake pans. You can find them at a cake decorating store, or Michael's, Walmart, etc. The crumb coating (first layer of frosting on cake) is usually done with buttercream, and the frosting between the tiers is royal icing (like the kind you use when decorating a gingerbread house). No wax :) You can buy fondant the same places you can get the pans (expensive though), or you can search the internet for a good recipe. Hope that helps.

  • @Bananianiown Thanks I appreciate it! I made my first 2 cakes the other night. Nothing like this but they're sooo good. I made a square single layer all white cake with cream cheese icing. Then I made a double layer round cake with chocolate chips and chocolate sauce in the middle, on top was a milk chocolate icing. Oh man, got to go...it's calling me to the fridge!

  • ..but will it taste good? dun dun dun.

  • Great demo! I will try stacking this way. Thank you very much for sharing!

    Sweetpea73

  • My nephew's 6th Birthday is on the 16th of April & I'm surprising him by making a cake for him. I asked him what his favorite colors are & what he likes on a cake. I'm hoping to start this weekend. My friend in my culinary class, just finished a BEAUTIFUL topsy turvy cake! :)

I'm 16 by the way, making a complex cake <3

  • You are AWESOME! I am making my nephew's birthday cake and he asked for mickey mouse, but I did not want to make a plain blah square cake, I will transform it and adapt it to a topsy turvy, this is a great tutorial, and BTW, the cake itself is beautiful, simple and elegant. Great job!

  • why are shaving off the edges? and y do you have a small cake at the bottom?

  • Hi, would you please share the cake recipe? I was asked to make a 4 tier wedding cake and I thought of making a topsy turvy cake, but I don't know what cake recipe to use, I need a good sturdy one that doesn't get squished. Antother queston - do you freeze the cake before frosting and do you shape-cut it while frozen? Thanks!

  • I have to thank you for uploading this. Last summer, when I was still a pastry-cook apprentice, my boss actually took an order for a topsy turvey cake as a wedding cake withouth having a clue how to make one and gave me a drawing of what it should look like and said "Here, you have to work on this tomorrow. You'll make it." - she never taught me anything, my boss/teacher. I searched youtube and found this. I still improvised most of it, but knowing where to cut for the top tiers was crucial! TY!

  • Appreciate the video, I'm dong my first topsy turvy cake, I've done tons of other kinds of cake but this video's been very helpful for me! Thanks and keep up the wonderful cake makin!

  • If you knew you were gonna cut the sides off, why not just use the same size cake trays..... But good job!

  • @TRIIANGLE

Because that way, there's less waste from the bottom as she cuts downwards.
