  • Mesmerizing and well presented! Yes, "What does it all mean?" I think that since all this is happening on a single tiny rock in the midst of a vast and endless universe where developed human civilization has only existed for a tiny fraction of all history (some 10,000 years of the over 4 billion years since Earth was formed) and where someday all life on it will cease again once the Sun burns itself out, it means I can go back and quietly enjoy my breakfast cereal. Have a nice a day...

  • wooooooooooooaaaaa!

  • the video is more than impressive! it is overwhelming and scary, but at the same time it makes us proud to live these exponential times.

Good luck to the creaters in making people aware of the reality around us.

  • woah dude.

    thats intense.

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • -and that...super computer, not ony will it be more advance in intelligence but it can predict 15 yrs into the future. =O LOL

It's strange to think i could be studying for a job, a position in the world that is not yet in existence.

  • Wow..schools like showing this don't they? I watched it today and man did that scare me.

  • This video really hits home. I'm from the U.S and I thought we were one of the smartest countries in the world (no offence). Wow we are really going to be left in the dust. The technology is incredible! I can't wait to see it all when I'm older. Thanks for making this video! Everyone needs to see it no matter what country you're from.

  • We have a lot of work today if America is to remain globally competitive, but don't forget that nearly all the worlds innovation comes from America still today in the form of hi tech companies and Internet technology. If it wasn't for youtube no one would ever have seen this vid. Youtube is an american start up, now owned by google (USA).

  • wow we watched this at school. we are going to be living the matrix.

it really gave me a wake up call.

    very well done.

  • watched it in my AP Euro class, ruined everyones day. hard being the smartest and knowing that there are just more ppl out there just like you or better. amazing video. everyone should see something with this power at least once.

  • I think the technological advances will be very cool, and I cant wait til the 2020's so that I can see all the cool and different things that are out there and I think that this video is anything but sad, but a great accomplishment of mankind. Not only for technological reasons but that of other countries as well becoming a world power, which to most US citizens seems like the end of the world.

  • my head exploded....

  • Wow, this is really overwhelming to think about...

  • man, thats really depressing how thats all gonna happen :(

  • this video should definately be featured on the front page

  • We had to watch this video twice yesterday in school, and it scared the crap out of us. Plus I just made my mum watch it and it was STILL crazy.

  • I'm a business student in college and we actually watched this in class...I was totally speechless.

  • nice..its all true too.cool sh*t

  • it's hard to imagine how the future will look like and especially what 'jobs' there will be.. I guess expanding our 'world' would be a 'giant step for mankind'...

  • i must agree this is a very good video and makes you think but i just dont understand how a human can create something that will be greater then the human race?

  • Wow. Our teacher showed this to us today. I am a little worried, however i do not really belive those numbers since there are no refrences. And that computers will be smarter than humans, BS. Even if it did make sense, who cares? Are the computers going to take over the US? I don't think so. I don't care about China, they can't come up to us and take all our jobs. Its our country.

  • This is scary, isn't it? Does anyone else think maybe we should slow down? What will happen when our machines are smarter than us? What then? Brilliant video. It really makes you think, doesn't it.

  • you lot are fucking stupid

  • my brain hurts! @_@

  • one of my teachers showed this video in class.... its pretty amazing i think

  • changed my life

  • This is my fave among Karl's 3 presentations. Have to feature it.

  • It's true. The number of people in the world is multiplying at a terribly fast rate. In a few years, we might not have enough room to put everyone, and multiple families will live in one home.

  • I shall never be exceeded by a computer. I am ROBOCOP. A cyborg. The best of both worlds. With a gun.

  • well, here in California Arnold is our Governator...coincidence? I think NOT! lol

  • quite interesting indeed

  • That's scary as hell.

  • this is why they call India & China the sleeping lion....we better watch out!

  • I feel humbled now.

  • Great video.

By the way, the music is the theme from the movie, "The Last of the Mohicans." A great soundtrack.

  • too bad this isn't still the 1800s resource-wise. culturally, i guess we've been fucked since 1776.

  • rolf :D

  • "Education should be more about learning how to learn and less about specific facts."

    Spot on.

  • Don't worry about the carrying-capacity of the planet, or limits on technology; we are far from exceeding out own creative capacity. But for all teachers AND students: this is why principles are so important, not teaching the specifics! With principles, you are armed to consider and learn ANY specific! Go civ!

  • We watched this in my economics class today...more text messages a day than people on the planet! Scary

  • ahaha~ we are all pathetic and worthless. lmao.

what's the point in living now?

    *suicide* lmao

  • Awesome video! Makes you feel a little insignificant, but also excited about the future!

  • nice

  • Those super computers are going to kill us all. We must destroy Cyberdine and Skynet!

  • this video is awesome

  • impressive :O

  • This reveals to me how unbalanced and out of control humanity is. The things valued in this do not really do anything to help alleviate suffering on the planet. And as if a computer can become superior to the human brain, the brain is the greatest tool for witnessing the magic and mystery of life, not for moving data and doing calculations... computer says: humanity, too much information, not enough wisdom, lacking love...

  • anyone ever wondered, where the shit is gonna go..

  • A terrible vision of things to come.

This world cannot sustain us at this rate for much longer...

  • Speak for yourself, weak link :D I will survive!

  • I agree. From this point of view, the future of Earth and humanity is not looking so good. There is time to change our ways though, but that window is fast closing.

  • it makes me feel tiny.

  • most of this is known to those who don't get there news from Fox and CNN.

  • You must watch Fox, since you can't spell, either.

  • Building houses, making babies, growing food and most other professions hardly change at all. Even tech profession changes seem to have leveled over the last few years. Not really concerned about shifts or China. Education should be more about learnng how to learn and less about specific facts.

  • So the tractor, the reaper, electronic catalogs of food supply, fertilizers, condoms, electric drills, etc. dont change the way a procession is done?

  • I thought it was plain brilliant.

  • I like the music.

  • It is from the Last Mohican movie.. really sad.

  • not surprising, considering how Moore's law and exponential functions work

  • whoah

  • very very worrying with the birth rates - well speaking from a white european view point. we're already a minority on this planet but if trends continue... well, you do the maths.

  • "This was created as a presentation for a school faculty open their eyes to some of these startling facts and get them on the board with technology. "

Startling facts!?? I didn't see facts. What I did see were statements spouted by a student not supported by ANY reference material. Please make it more interesting by giving us references to support your statements.

  • sounds like someone got a bit jaded by doing college research. exponential functions can be expressed by a log function, who needs references

  • You missed the point.

  • If you go to the actual site, each slide is backed up by factual information.

  • i'm just glad i wake up in the morning safely haha =p but given by the leap in technology, i dun think we humans will be able to keep up. imagine AMD releasing a new processor every hour. phew...to fanboys around.

  • The individual facts were interesting, but what was the point of the whole?

  • This was created as a presentation for a school faculty open their eyes to some of these startling facts and get them on the board with technology.

  • cool. now for some proof.

  • "...unless you count the Chinese. But at this point, NOBODY can count the Chinese."-John Stewart

Wow. Even I'm amazed at how fast technology is moving.

  • yeah... I'd like some references.... some of those numbers arn't believable.

  • Go to the original site...

  • what is the music used? I love it.

  • That would be the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack...one of my favs.

  • vERY sCARY

  • Too much information.. except Nintendo vs US, that I believe. Reminds me of 'Coming Attractions'. Good presentation, soundtrack ok.

  • this is cool !!!

  • Interesting presentation. It would be good to know where you compiled all this 'know-how'.

  • This isn't my presentation. I borrowed it from Carl Fisch (who I don't know personally) as I stated in in the sidebar.

  • Wow....amazing
