Mesmerizing and well presented! Yes, "What does it all mean?" I think that since all this is happening on a single tiny rock in the midst of a vast and endless universe where developed human civilization has only existed for a tiny fraction of all history (some 10,000 years of the over 4 billion years since Earth was formed) and where someday all life on it will cease again once the Sun burns itself out, it means I can go back and quietly enjoy my breakfast cereal. Have a nice a day...
This video really hits home. I'm from the U.S and I thought we were one of the smartest countries in the world (no offence). Wow we are really going to be left in the dust. The technology is incredible! I can't wait to see it all when I'm older. Thanks for making this video! Everyone needs to see it no matter what country you're from.
We have a lot of work today if America is to remain globally competitive, but don't forget that nearly all the worlds innovation comes from America still today in the form of hi tech companies and Internet technology. If it wasn't for youtube no one would ever have seen this vid. Youtube is an american start up, now owned by google (USA).
watched it in my AP Euro class, ruined everyones day. hard being the smartest and knowing that there are just more ppl out there just like you or better. amazing video. everyone should see something with this power at least once.
I think the technological advances will be very cool, and I cant wait til the 2020's so that I can see all the cool and different things that are out there and I think that this video is anything but sad, but a great accomplishment of mankind. Not only for technological reasons but that of other countries as well becoming a world power, which to most US citizens seems like the end of the world.
it's hard to imagine how the future will look like and especially what 'jobs' there will be.. I guess expanding our 'world' would be a 'giant step for mankind'...
i must agree this is a very good video and makes you think but i just dont understand how a human can create something that will be greater then the human race?
Wow. Our teacher showed this to us today. I am a little worried, however i do not really belive those numbers since there are no refrences. And that computers will be smarter than humans, BS. Even if it did make sense, who cares? Are the computers going to take over the US? I don't think so. I don't care about China, they can't come up to us and take all our jobs. Its our country.
This is scary, isn't it? Does anyone else think maybe we should slow down? What will happen when our machines are smarter than us? What then? Brilliant video. It really makes you think, doesn't it.
It's true. The number of people in the world is multiplying at a terribly fast rate. In a few years, we might not have enough room to put everyone, and multiple families will live in one home.
Don't worry about the carrying-capacity of the planet, or limits on technology; we are far from exceeding out own creative capacity. But for all teachers AND students: this is why principles are so important, not teaching the specifics! With principles, you are armed to consider and learn ANY specific! Go civ!
This reveals to me how unbalanced and out of control humanity is. The things valued in this do not really do anything to help alleviate suffering on the planet. And as if a computer can become superior to the human brain, the brain is the greatest tool for witnessing the magic and mystery of life, not for moving data and doing calculations... computer says: humanity, too much information, not enough wisdom, lacking love...
I agree. From this point of view, the future of Earth and humanity is not looking so good. There is time to change our ways though, but that window is fast closing.
Building houses, making babies, growing food and most other professions hardly change at all. Even tech profession changes seem to have leveled over the last few years. Not really concerned about shifts or China. Education should be more about learnng how to learn and less about specific facts.
very very worrying with the birth rates - well speaking from a white european view point. we're already a minority on this planet but if trends continue... well, you do the maths.
"This was created as a presentation for a school faculty open their eyes to some of these startling facts and get them on the board with technology. "
Startling facts!?? I didn't see facts. What I did see were statements spouted by a student not supported by ANY reference material. Please make it more interesting by giving us references to support your statements.
i'm just glad i wake up in the morning safely haha =p but given by the leap in technology, i dun think we humans will be able to keep up. imagine AMD releasing a new processor every hour. phew...to fanboys around.
