  • Yummy

  • Wonderful! I am making this today! Thanks Betty :)

  • Betty, my husband keeps requesting me to make potato cakes, because he remembers them as a kid. Do you know how to make them, and if so, I would love you to show me how. I love your videos, you make everything seem so easy to make, I also love how you demonstrate the typical family meals instead of other cooks who show how to cook not so friendly family dinners.

  • @lvick3 I do have a video for potato cakes in bettyskitchen that I think you will like. Just search potato cakes in bettyskitchen.

  • ok, so ive been making tons of bettys kitchen recipes! 6 total. i Just made this casserole tonight along with some pan fried hamburgers and once again, family loved it!i did however put half cuo of sauteed onion rather than quarter and it was simply amazing. heads up to everyone else, make sure not to cook the corn flakes for too long. i turned around, pour the casserole into the dish, smoothed it out and by time i was done, the bottom had burnt. this was however AFTER around 3 mins of cookin em

  • @thefallingdream Thanks for your wonderful feedback! I really appreciate it! You are right about the cornflakes!

    --Betty :)

  • Can you use fresh grated yukon potatoes instead of frozen packages?

Would I have to boil the yukon potatoes first or after boil them after I grate them.

  • @chenangela Yes, you may use yukon gold potatoes. I would boil them first, then let them cool, and then grate them.

    --Betty :)

  • You're definitely hotter than Paula!

  • Your're definitely hotter than Paula!

  • You are an awesome cook!

  • Hi Betty.Do you have any good recipes for Meatloaf? Thanks!!

  • what is margine?

  • @randomworldshow Margarine is a substitute for butter. Use butter in the recipe, if you prefer it.

    --Betty :)

  • Sorry my computer was acting up....only meant to post it once. :) Thanks for the prompt response...I am about to make the hasbrown casserole and I am making your pork ribs in the crock pot recipe too. I will let you know how it goes! :)

  • @yaya0929 OreIda.

    --Betty :)

  • Do you use orelda hash brown (shredded hasbrowns) or the hash brown supreme that are like country potatoes?

  • @yaya0929 I typically use OreIda hash browns.

    --Betty :)

  • LOL, I was so proud of myself as I was making this, then discovered I had bought Sugar-Frosted corn flakes in stead of just corn flakes...OOPS. Well I went back to the store, made the casserole and just loved it!!!

  • This looks delicious! And in response to the nasty comment left by Ahnishinabe - sorry you don't know how to enjoy comfort food. But it's something we do well, so it's a good thing you left. Betty, from what I can tell, is in very good shape; as am I. Everything in moderation. Enjoy your permanent vacation :)

Thanks Betty for another great recipe!!!

  • @Ahnishinabe i think you are right, but who are you to say what people can or cannot eat? yes america has alot of fattening foods but atleast they arent starving like other countries. Plus not everyoone eat junk food 24/7 and there are accually healthier ingridients tgo add to junk food to lower, the sugar, sodium and fat content. stop judging.

  • I've been in the country for 2 years and believe it or not, I had hash browns for the first time in my life 2 days ago although it was at Waffle House :P. I must be the only guy to experience "love at first taste" :). Your recipe looks delicious, I might try it some day. BTW love your southern accent :)

  • @rishi007316 Thanks for your comment on the hash brown potato casserole--and on my accent!

    --Betty :)

  • So hot

  • @dingle6 Thanks for the thought.

    --Betty :)

  • your the best Betty, thanks!

  • You are welcome! Thanks for your lovely comment!

    --Betty :)

  • Would french fried onions work on top instead of cornflakes?

  • Yes, they would be great!

    --Betty :)

  • I tried it with the french fried onions and it was fantastic!

  • it would be special if its got hash XD

  • Sorry, it's not that kind of hash,

    --Betty :)

  • yes hehe XD

  • This looks pretty good, might have to give it a shot sometime...

  • I think you will enjoy the recipe! Thanks for your lovely comment!

    --Betty :)

  • A guest brought a casserole just like this to Thanksgiving one year and I always remembered the taste. I am so happy to finally have a recipe for this casserole! Thank you so much for sharing it.

  • You are very welcome! This version tastes really good, but feel free to tweak it to your own taste! Thanks for your sweet comment!

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Betty, I like casseroles and sure would like

to try this. Can I use fresh potatoes instead of

frozen potatoes? I will leave the sour cream out

because I don't like it and would it be ok.

    thanks for the cooking show

  • Hi! Yes, you may use fresh potatoes, just pre-cook them a bit. Don't get them overdone, because they will continue to cook in the oven. You may leave out the sour cream, just add something liquid to take the place of it, like milk and some extra cheese. It will be great! Thanks for your comment and questions!

    --Betty :)

  • Thanks Betty for the tips and cooking lessons. You are so sweet and kind to take out time to make your cooking videos and sharing.

  • No problem! I love cooking; it's my greatest hobby, and I love shaing my recipes! I'm glad you enjoy them!

  • Hi again!

My birthday is December 15, so either that or Christmas is a good time to ask for a treat like one of those cooking machines--It would be wonderful! Thanks for keeping in touch!

    --Betty :)

  • Just an idea, could you not use real cheese. I try to stay away from the processed stuff. I like the corn flake idea. I"m going to try you recipe using real cheese and see how it works.. i think 1.5 or 2cups of grated will work.

  • Yes, that would be fine! Other people may want to do the same! Thanks for viewing and commenting!

    --Betty :)

  • Betty,

I'm a young man who recently moved out of the house. Been in a big city for almost a year and am struggling to learn to cook. Your videos help a great deal. Very easy to follow and are delicious. I'm slowly but surely learning to cook. Thanks for the help. :)

  • Hi! You are very welcome! Thanks for your sweet comment! I *love* cooking for people like you! Thanks so much for your wonderful feedback!

    --Betty :)

  • Thank you so much Ms. Betty. I am going to book mark your recipe. I loved the way you explained EVERY single ingredient and their measurements...even down to how you could have cooked it longer had you not browned the corn flakes so much. So good job! VERY easy to follow along. Thanks again!

  • Thank you! I sometimes think I ramble too much, but I really want to make things clear. Thanks for your sweet comment!

    --Betty :)

  • hmmmymmm......don't that hashbrown casserole look scrumptious! 5 stars for ya Betty!(licks lips and drools) = )

  • Thanks for your sweet comment! You make me want to go cook something right now for people like you who appreciate it! You're great!

    --Betty :)

  • Being from the South, Georgia, I have some versions of your recipes. I love seeing the variations you do with your particular dishes. We always have this dish, along with a sausage, egg, cheese breakfast casserole, and the garlic-cheese grits for brunch on Christmas, along with lots of other goodies. I enjoy your videos.

  • It sounds like we do have a lot of recipes in common (pretty much!). Thanks for watching my videos and for your compliments!

    --Betty :)

  • sooo good, I always have to beg my mom to make this on special occasions! it's very time consuming...she uses shredded cheese, but instead of how you use onions, she uses green onions!

    my mouth just watered...haha

  • The shredded cheese and green onions sound great! It is a mouth-watering dish! Thanks for commenting!

    --Betty :)

  • hey no problem, another thing...I know everyone has their own way of doing things, but in case you want a tip for the cornflake topping, make sure you cook your potatoes first, and then with a couple of minutes left, put on your topping, leaving your casserole dish uncovered, and set your oven to broil. It doesn't take much...I hate the taste of a burnt cornflake! haha

  • That's exactly what I'm going to do next time! Thanks for viewing and commenting!

    --Betty :)

  • looks good

  • It is very good. If you try it, I think you will be very pleased! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    --Betty :)

  • no prob

  • There you go!

    --Betty :)

  • i will try this...i ve never tried no hasbrowns.

  • my kids will love this

  • It is something that kids love! Thanks for viewing and commenting!

    --Betty :)

  • Got it.

Thanks for being such a faithful viewer!

    --Betty :)

  • I don't consider it a main dish--I would serve it with some kind of meat and a salad or vegetable. I leave out bread and dessert quite often, but that's just to save calories. (I really love bread!) Thanks for the compliment on the recipe! You're great!!!

    --Betty :)

  • Betty, you don`t know us single men... This is the main dish

For dessert we have two packs of the Hostess brand chocolate HO-HO`s...

    Robert

  • This looks absolutely wonderful !! Do you consider this a main dish? or do you use it as a side dish with ham or something? Thanks again awesome recipe!
