  • You should take a sign language class, jwerner, it might really interest you and help further your studies in this subject. It is a facinating and passionate form of communication I have studied myself. Just a thought. :0)

  • i wouldn't be surprised if a deaf person confuse my thumbs up praise with a screw you insult

  • ahahahaha! XD Funny as hell!

  • what a waste of time, ud have to be living under a rock not the know any of these.

  • Stop/ Sell/ I rub feces in your face

Oh, hand gestures, you're so useful.

  • LOL I did not know half of the ones on here!!!! Great job, I love this video! Very educational! :D

  • Devil / Heavy Metal Music

    lmao

  • The gladiator one is backwards. Thumbs up would mean the audience wanted the loser to die and the thumbs down meant they didn't want him to die. But it's an almost universal misconception so it's not surprising.

And others already mentioned it but the peace sign held palm-towards you is like the middle finger in a lot of European countries.

  • In any Asian countries I've visited, the "come here" gesture is very different. It's a sort of one-handed palm-down flap. Not like the western version at all.

  • thax :)

  • wat about the italian thing on their chins.

  • Hang loose? dont ya mean Bong On...

  • ROFL... 2:19

  • no sound??

  • thanks a lot

  • Bend Over,

Time to shove it up yours!

  • intercourse lol

  • I once heard "pollice verso" (as in gladiators) might have been pointed towards the chest, not down.

    Nice video, thanks

  • yawn

  • very informative as i wanted to teach my students about international hand gestures. thanks to you guys

  • @culiatr I use it every time I teach hand gestures.

  • I did thumbs up to my local Kebab salesman... He's from turkey i think.. what does thumbs up mean in turkey?

  • It's like pointing the middle finger.

  • LMAO! then i shouldnt try that wiht my new science techer as she's from turkry as well :P

  • Actualy the gesture in 1:41 in Greece has to be done with spread fingers and towards the face of the other. Many do it with both hands, one behind the other. Its called :faskelo: or "moutza".

  • omg that's hilarious! ima start doing that to people :)

  • Great video, thank you for posting

  • very useful

  • When I was younger, I made the 'clitoris' hand gesture with both of my hands and showed it to my mother. She was appalled and said it was considered a swear where she came from (Brunei). And now, years later, I know what it actually means. Thanks!

  • I watched this is Sociology class. It was very interesting. Never saw the ''Clitorus'' one coming.

  • Yeah. It's the equivalent to F*** you! in Russia. I mean I thought that was the only meaning it had.

  • During the Battle of Agincourt(1415)when French archers captured English archers they cut off their index and middle fingers so they couldn't use their bows any longer. The English archers fighting the French use to goad the enemy by holding up these fingers. To this day its still use to insult people in Britain. So remember the victory sign hand gesture used by many nations is an insult in Britain.

  • Yes, and that's why Winston Churchill used the 'v' sign in the 'up yours' model to symbolise to Hitler that he hadn't broken the British nation

  • that was rad.

  • I'm wondering if the inspiration for the finger circle meaning "money" in Japan was when the thumb and index finger were wrapped around a coin.

  • Hey, that's an great theory, sonicutie. Never thought of that.

  • It sure is, davidngo4415.

  • is that amandapants in that video?

  • There´s one thing wrong about the OK sign... in Brazil, the OK sound is the same, but as for "anus" the sign should be inverted, as making reference to the 'O', I´m sure you know what I mean. :)

  • I love this video...but I think I love it for the wrong reasons. You see, while I was watching, somebody in the next booth was editing a film which had this awesome ambiant music, and...I thought the music was coming from my computer speakers. It really made the piece. Unfortunately, nobody I've asked knows where the music came from! Oh, well.
