I wonder why most Santour player try to sound like each other. It almost sound they are mimicking one another.
Practicing other music would help these musicians to find their own style. But of course, there are many who would not like this idea. Times are changing always. Do we??
Master Hamidreza Taghavi studied with many of the great santoorists in Iran; including the grand masters Parviz Meshkatian and Ardavan Kamkar. Master Taghavi attained the ability to play through numerous methods and in my opinion was Ardavan Kamkar's best student and is one of very few santoorists who has successfully adopted the technique of playing santoor by Ardavan Kamkar's method to an exceptionally high standard.
