@jessegraham17 I had an original 60GB PS3 that got YLOD, I sent it back to sony and they sent me a refurb which lasted about a year then it got the YLOD again. I then took it to a professional repair shop and paid $90 for a repair and had to then wait 2 weeks for it to "cure". That "professional" lasted 2 months before we got YLOD again. We were also very careful to not play for multiple hours or let the PS3 get dirty.
This worked great for 5 minutes. I turned it on. Worked like a charm. Went to go play some Black Ops. Boom; I was hit with the ylod. I might try it again but I think the solution is just getting it permanently by Playstation, because this solution is not permanent.
Xbox fixing trick is easier when I got red ring in early december I got two towels and wrapped my xbox in the towels for 15 mins after those 15 mins I let the xbox overheat then another 15 mins passed it cooled Down now it was working like 3 days after I got red ring
@gfrh0 if u hav a system that can do that fan test thing just switch the system off at the back hold the eject button and then switch it back on and the disk will come out. some models of the fat ps3 cant do it tho. if u hav the 40 gig it will work.
mine messed up while playing AC2 I thought my life was over because I got the ps3 for christmas and I didnt want to save 300 dollars and I paid 20 bucks for AC2
@djwhetzel it still is not a big deal, tags are practically meaningless. and yes why not use your name thats what tags are made for.. it would be a big deal if i used your method to fixing the ps3 or your content in this video and did not not give a shout out. but this video has nothing to do with you so there should be no problem
@terminator2u4 Tags aren't exactly meaningless. They're used in the search results.
And you're right. This video has nothing to do with me so why use my name in it at all?
I'm not mad and I don't even really mind if you use my name, but it's kind of misleading to your viewers if they're searching for my video and they happen to come across yours.
Youtube is a big place and there is plenty of room for both of us.
I used a blow dryer with mine... (blow dry 15 minutes then fan for 20 mimutes) It didn't work first time so tried it again sraight after and the second time worked :)
15 + 20 = 35. i took my ps3 apart in 5. heated the cpu and the gpu for 1 min. put new thermal paste on about 5 min. re assembled in 5 min. 5 + 5 + 1 + 5 = 16. my way took half the time and i wont have to worry about it for another 5 years.
@commentXrateXsubscrb how in the hell are u going to use a heat gun? ur not tinting the windows of a car did u know even with the heat gun u can burn or damage the tinted window film yeah pal thats how hot'''''''''''''''' it gets but i guess we all know u a piece of shit who doesnt know less can u guys seriously grow up thats wy u dont dry ur hair with a heat gun any body any
You ROCK! Ok, here's the scoop. Last night I got a YLOD. Ended up running out to buy my son another but cheesed that we lost years of saves, I came across this. BTW, it WORKED for me.
Using a 1600 Watt hairdryer, I heated the through the back vents for 20 minutes. Using an infared temp gun, the air temp coming out of the hair dryer was 92 degrees. The internal temp of the PS3 after 20 minutes hit 65 degrees.
@CWAVE6K I then cooled it with a big fan for 20 minutes until the internal temperature hit 28 degrees (all measured through where the harddrive lives). YES, I removed the HD.
The PS3 to my amazement powered up. I was able to do a full backup of the machine, no problems. Just waiting for the PS network to get out of "maintenance mode" so I can do a data transfer from this troubled PS3 to my new one. AMAZING solution! I'd buy you a beer if I could!
@CWAVE6K FOLLOW-UP. Seems that running a blu-ray disc is too much for the circuitry as that kicked mine back into YLOD. Ejecting the disc using the fan-test trick got it out and it powered up again. Overall, I ran the PS3 after this temporary fix for about 5 hours in total, and it's still working this morning. Plan on re-flowing the board in the coming weeks, but this is an awesome temp fix. Got all the saves recovered and the new PS3 has everything the old one had now! AWESOME!
did it, it worked so far so good i had hair dryer on for like 25 mins though stopping every 2 mins inside and old Christmas present sack thing :L but its worked so far
did it, it worked so far so good i had hair dryer on for like 25 mins though stopping every 2 mins inside and old Christmas present sack thing :L but its worked so far
Thanks for this - only fixed my PS3 for about 20 seconds, but that was enough time to eject MW3, which saved me having to physically dismantle the machine to get it out. (Did anyone else get YLOD at exactly the moment they first tried MW3 multiplayer? Curious...)
I have read the comments and this is not a permanent solution. I tried, it worked but when I turned it on the next day it was back. SO IF IT DOES WORK BACK UP YOUR DATA ASAP!
P.s. To get a disk out turn ps3 off by switch, hold the eject button and turn it back on.
This video should be taken down. People are melting the interior plastic parts of the PS3. The fan and its cooling channel are melting and will have top be replaced. If the outside is melted a little the inside will be much worse. It is a temporary fix that can result in permanent damage!!!!
I just bought a ps3 from a guy that said it works fine but when I turn it on it goes green then the blue light turns on, then yellow and it turns off. Did the guy screw me over or is there something I'm missing to turn it on?
u stupid cow it doesnt work so u can kiss my bum :) or tell me something else 2 fix it please if u do tell me another wAY 2 FIX IT I L TELL EVERYBODY 2 LIKE THIS VIDEO
@93CIMBOM Dude I had this happen to me for the first time and I've had my ps3 for five years and if you have had it as long as I have, you should get a new ps3 and transfer the data onto that one. It's better than going through the bull of trying to fix it on your own or have it fixed and it does this AGAIN
The first time I done this it worked for about 2 months, the second time I done this it worked for 2 weeks then I done it for a third time only lasted 30 mins.
Will the length of time the PS3 will last keep going down?
Ive done this 3 times now it just makes the plastic melt and lets it work until you turn it off.. so don't do it if your gonna play for that long.. or try not turning it off i have not tried that yet...
@usuckers73 I think you are way more stupid bcuz the ps3 does have removable hdd you moron, inform yourself before talking, your ass might get jelous of the shit that comes out of your mouth.
THANKS I HAVE ALL THOSE STUFF YES! ohh yeah i woke up and i was gonna play some black ops (btw my black ops was in side the playstaion) than i turned it on than i showed a yellow light and i was like .................... wtf?
to everyone commenting on there saved games gone. there not. the good thing about ps3 is the hard drive is removable and transferable to other systems. so if your system really is gone and there's nothing you can do about it. just remove the hard drive and plug that hard drive in ur new ps3 if u decide to get a new one. if you have a game stuck in there. there is ways to get it out. just u will have to open the ps3 up or pay some shop to do it.
@usuckers73 nope, actually the removable hardrive is useless, because when you try to put it in another ps3 it erases everything, because sony is a asshole and makes each hardrive unique to the ps3 its installed in and will not work withour reformating on another ps3............ i phoned sony tech support and actually tried to put the other hardrive in my new ps3 and it dont work, but im just tryna get my ps3 to work for 5 minutes to back up the data on a external harddrive right now...
@FilthyNinjaSTEP didn't know that. well that sucks cause thats pretty much the best reason to have a removable hhd next to being able to have unlimited memory if you buy a few hdd. but i guess sony is just stupid and like to screw ppl over.
Didn't work on my friend's PS3, so all of his savegames are gone. I did manage to use another video to take apart the Blu-Ray drive and get his BF3 disc out, but let this serve as a public reminder to BACK UP SAVEGAMES!
this is not a permanent fix. your ps3 will get the ylod again. the reason you idiots get the ylod is because you let it get too hot .. the right way to fix it includes resoldering some components i think the cpu and gpu. leave that to pros
@xjdom Which is what I'm going to do after I do this because if I screw something up, I will never have my save data back since the harddrive is "bound" to the PS3. Of course this isn't a permanent fix...just like the Xbox 360's towel trick, it isn't permanent.
@klayclay you can go for it because you sound like you know what your doing but lots of people are going to be sadly disappointed when they get the ylod again and make the ps3 even worse
@xjdom Trust me, I"m always careful with my things :P Plus I know quite a few people who are good with computers and such and will see if they will help me with it. Once I get the fix done, I'm going to try and run a fan on it whenever it is played on so that it will hopefully not ylod again....or not do it anytime soon again anyway.
TOTALLY SUBSCRIBING! Thanks for the fix...! Got rid of the YLOD for my 3-year-old ps3 80gb. Hopefully I don't get the YLOD again. Any tips on how to avoid it? Freakin scared me hours earlier! Then I found your link in YT and it really worked!!! Thanks dude! :D
Awesome! It worked like a charm. I used to leave the system on all the time, and that probably caused the problem. I hope it keeps working for a while. Thanks man!
EVERYONE COMPLAINING YOUR PS3 "ATE" YOUR DISC. TURN OFF PS3 (MAIN SWITCH). HOLD FINGER ON EJECT BUTTON. TURN ON MAIN SWITCH WITH FINGER STILL ON THE BUTTON. The ps3's fan will then run at super high RPM. Your disc will then be ejected. CONFIRMED WORKS ON OLD SCHOOL 40GB PS3. give it a shot guys.
@MrMockeryMcFly DAMN!!! bro thx a lot for this little tip...so glad to actually get my brother's MW3 out of it....thx again man you more or less saved my ass
@gilet102 No problem man, glad you saved your MW3 disc. Also I brought my PS3 to my local game store today and they said don't bother fixing it if you have the old school fat PS3. All fixes are temporay - you're better off buying a new slim one. Good luck man, I'm waiting for some sweet christmas deals haha
done this twice now it firstly worked for over a month then it got ylod now iv done it again and its fully working but making wierd noises, im also getting a burning smell coming of it and im just shitting myself that it doesent set on fire or explode
i have just done this listen up, use the hair dryer on hot put it to use playstation hair vents and leave it there and till the plastic on the vents starts going soft (use your finger to push the vent gently) when this happends stop use the dryer and leave for 5 mins, then turn on your playstation, the van will go mentle but thats ok then take out the cd right away, then leave your playstation on to call down by its own van (this is what im doing as i write i hope it works for you.
evry 1 who watch this dont do it i did this so many times and now the back is out of shape, then i had it fixed permanitly and the guy who fixed said dont do it all it does is ruin ur ps3, if you keep doing this ur ps3 will shut down 4 good, come on guys dont be lazy just fix it ur self or hav som 1 else 2

Defintely works. wish i seen this years ago.
aagilbigaatassipp 3 months ago
this is not a permanent fix. your ps3 will get the ylod again. the reason you idiots get the ylod is because you let it get too hot .. the right way to fix it includes resoldering some components i think the cpu and gpu. leave that to pros
xjdom 3 months ago
@xjdom Which is what I'm going to do after I do this because if I screw something up, I will never have my save data back since the harddrive is "bound" to the PS3. Of course this isn't a permanent fix...just like the Xbox 360's towel trick, it isn't permanent.
klayclay 3 months ago
@klayclay you can go for it because you sound like you know what your doing but lots of people are going to be sadly disappointed when they get the ylod again and make the ps3 even worse
xjdom 3 months ago

@MrMockeryMcFly DAMN!!! bro thx a lot for this little tip...so glad to actually get my brother's MW3 out of it....thx again man you more or less saved my ass
gilet102 3 months ago
@gilet102 No problem man, glad you saved your MW3 disc. Also I brought my PS3 to my local game store today and they said don't bother fixing it if you have the old school fat PS3. All fixes are temporay - you're better off buying a new slim one. Good luck man, I'm waiting for some sweet christmas deals haha

VXxXAzzAXxXV 3 months ago
@MrMockeryMcFly No it doesn't attempted several times.
gekkman34 3 months ago
@gekkman34 it works on the 40GB PS3, tried and confirmed. Your system probably isn't the fat 40GB one, otherwise it's supposed to work.
MrMockeryMcFly 3 months ago
@MrMockeryMcFly I have the fat 40GB, doesn't matter though. Sending in to Sony and getting a 160GB replacement for $99.

If your PS3 is 40GB run a fan test and the game will come out on its own. I just got the YLOD. I am devastated.

i have just done this listen up, use the hair dryer on hot put it to use playstation hair vents and leave it there and till the plastic on the vents starts going soft (use your finger to push the vent gently) when this happends stop use the dryer and leave for 5 mins, then turn on your playstation, the van will go mentle but thats ok then take out the cd right away, then leave your playstation on to call down by its own van (this is what im doing as i write i hope it works for you.
