There's a lot of good things about this film, but I really think they ladle on the humor relief to liberally. It waters the tension down too much.

I actually think the Phantom is quite creepy in this part of the movie.. The way he talks calmly to Chirstine about how he kills for her.

I remember watching this part of the movie when I was 5 or 6. I knew it wasn't the Lon Chaney version, but I had a feeling it was Phantom related.
