My favourite theme will remain Dominique's one (so glamour, soft and exotic as this character I worship, but so roughly mishandled by writters...), Alexis (so bitchy!), Claudia's (very childish and nostalgic) . Every theme was worked out and stuck to the character it was related to. Nowadays filming has improved and series reached movie's quality, but music scores sound to be underestimated... I can't remeber (except for main themes) themes from "Grey s Anatomy" or " Desperate Housewives"...
I remember hearing somewhere that each character's theme was done with its own primary instrument. I guess my vote among the themes presented in the video would be Alexis, although Adam's - while not included - was very distinctive and may have been my #1 choice. You could always tell who was going to be what scene by the music that began it! :)
Great work LBColby. The fantastic musical score was one of Dynasty's strengths. I loved how each characer had their own theme. I guess Blake didn't have his own because the main theme was seen as his.
Brilliant. I like how each theme fits the character.
I don't know why but when hearing Dominique's theme, I picture a beautiful desert... Amanda's theme is... royal. My favourite is really Sammy Jo's theme; very 20's. And boy, did Joan Collins steal the show! Loves it.
But that music themes - where krystle finds the note - plantet by alexis - why do so many wives - something - and that is the same music where alexis reveals that fallon and adams are related
I've just rewatched the scene from "the two princes" and it's actually the same theme lol! So Steven#1 and #2 had the same theme (which seems logical). Fallon's theme was heard with Emma Samms only during season 8. Strangely, it was never used during "The Colbys"'s tenure.
@Dynastiefr2 Yes, it was. You can hear it in the pilot when Jeff is looking at Fallon's pictures and later when she is with Miles at the gas station (Miles' theme blends into Fallon's theme in that scene). Also, in season 2 episode 9 her theme is used with establishing shot of the mansion to lead into the scene with her and Miles at breakfast. But, Jeff's theme was certainly used a little more extensively in "The Colbys" than hers.
Steven has another theme than can be heard in "the two princes" for instance. A very beautiful theme. And Adam also has a very nasty theme (similar to the theme of his mother). Alexis had a different theme in season 2, much more melancholic. Ashley and Caress were the last characters of the show to get a theme. I wonder why the composers stopped to use them in the 3 last seasons..
@Dynastiefr2 Thank you. :) Oh, I loved Caress' theme. I should've added that one, too. Maybe next time. I might do another video with the remaining themes. I originally thought Alexis' theme in season 2, which they kept using over and over and over again, was just a general romantic theme. You can hear it again in season 3 even after Alexis' new theme was introduced, for example, when Krystle and Alexis discuss Steven's death at the Arden Villa pool in "The Locket."
Oh LB!!! I have always adored the music of Krystle walking outside in the second season in that champagne colored gown. I remember when I had all the episodes recorded on VHS, I would rewind that over and over. It's beautiful and sad all at the same time. Thanks for doing this. Love your work as usual!!!
One more thought - don't you think that Dominique's theme sounds like Superman I theme (original film, 1978)? the part when CK goes to the fortress up north? :-))
These are just some of the themes used on the show. There were other beautiful themes that I didn't put into this video for technical reasons (e.g. "Moldavia", "Connie" on "The Colbys", "The Failing Marriage of Steven & Claudia" in season 5, etc.). And of course the themes were used less extensively or completely dropped in latter seasons.
Very old-school and yet worked wonders on audience, the creators knew what they were doing, associating a theme to each character,"Peter and the Wolf" Style :-)
Loved La Mirage, Kirby and Of course, Alexis' theme is my absolute favorite :-))
