Oh, and by the way - maybe that's why he is so pleased with Abraham. Abraham copied what god did all the time - killing own children.
This book is sick and god is a pervert, murderer and rapist (or better - so are the people that have written the bible, because god can't possibly exist in such a grotesque form). And for sure they were stoned heavily when writing the text. Just look how the repeat everything twice and start each sentence with "and".
Don't waste your time debating a Christian.I don't, for the same reason I don't debate someone who thinks the Moon is made of cheese. It's like trying to stop a dog that's humping your leg. It's funny at first but the more you try to push it off the harder it humps. In the end the dog runs off and licks it's own ass and you got the dogs Jizz on you. Moral is- don't wrestle a pig cuz you'll get covered in shit and the pig is still a pig.

That's the difference of an Atheist. I would lay down my life for my child. Christians would kill theirs. Fucking Cowards! If any Christian can justify this with a test of faith, then you should be in prison. Here's a test, do an act of kindness to someone you dislike. Give a homeless person all your money. Volunteer your free time at a childrens hospital.
Christians who think Abraham was righteous are deeply troubled. If God came down and commanded me to Kill my boy, he would get a boot up his ass. It's real easy to criticize if you dont have kids. I do, and I know the bond. Abraham had psych problems. What kind of Scumbag God tests faith like that?
There's another possible explanation. One way to read the bible (esp. OT) is that the abrahamic god is a kind of "space monster", who happened to visit earth (the Middle-East specifically) a few thousand years ago, and did all sorts of nasty alien stuff onto the humans. Like mind reading, sick random punishments, and so on.
(Possible but EXTREMELY unlikely. Still, more likely than the god of the bible actually creating the universe etc.)
in the bible god kills a total amounts of about 2.4 million people not including the flood, sodom and gomorrah and other un numbered ones. with numberes its about 26-33 million, want to know how many stan kills? ten, not ten million, ten as in "10" the number after nine, you know "9"
lol, my mother said "can you imagine if child protective services had been around back then?" That's why they weren't around back then. Abraham knew God when he heard him, and he obeyed. Your question: "What would we think of someone who did that nowadays?" My anwser: "Nobody cares."
Trust in Jesus and you will have eternal life, Jesus rose from the dead after 3 days and ascended to heaven to take his throne at the right hand of the father. Refuse the truth and you will have the second death. Jesus said: "Fear not he who can destroy body but not soul, but rather, he who can destroy BOTH body and soul in hell". Satan isn't good he has deceived the world into denying the father. It is because of him you die, for he first caused Adam and eve to sin in the garden of eden.
@GriiiiiiinD If were being technical here satan didn't use any form or powers to make adam and eve sin. They did it out of free will because people are born to disobey whether it be religion or modern laws
@GriiiiiiinD "Trust in Jesus and you will have eternal life"
Trust your Jesus to fulfill his promises of prayer as he stated many times over Matthew 21:21-22, Matthew 7:7-8, Matthew 18:19-20,Mark 11:24-25 ,Luke 11:9-13,John 14:13-14,John 15:7,John 15:16,John 16:23-24 ect to give you what ask for just as you asked and will not receive any substitute or told no ,and is obviously Gods will according to Jesus. If you dont receive what you prayed for.....Jesus lied didnt he?
@GriiiiiiinD If Jesus can not fulfill the promise of ALL prayers as promised then what makes you think you will be saved from anything? If you wont be saved by the imaginary promises then perhaps reason can save your mind from delusion. He said all your prayers will be honored so pray for something you actually have concern for like a dying relative of an incurable disease to be healed instantly as promised. I think its only when we confront the truth do we really see what it is
If any of you lot read the Bible you would realize how all of it makes sense. Hell isn't eternal thats a lie, the bible says everyone who is dead is not in heaven or hell but asleep in there tomb. During the second coming of Christ the sheep (Elect) Will rise from the graves and ascend with him to heaven while the goats(Lost) will be judged and if found guilty will be cast into the lake of fire (The SECOND Death) If hell was eternal Jesus did not pay the full price for our sins did he?
@jimmychrabieh In the book of Matthew, Jesus says the old laws are still in place. But even they weren't, it's just replacing one form of sacrifice with another. It's all bullshit though.
That's ignorant. This is from the old testament. The Bible says we are no longer under the law, but under grace in the New Testament (after Jesus coming), we do not have to make sacrifices for the forgiveness of our sins. We are now under God’s grace and mercy because Jesus has now died for us, and we now have total and complete forgiveness for all of our sins. It is now between that person and God to get their sins forgiven and if they do not.
According to the Bible story, God asked Abraham to offer Isaac as a 'burnt offering' to him. This would have involved Abraham cutting Isaac's throat to kill him, then disembowelling him, then chopping the body into pieces, then burning the pieces on an alter. And according to the story, Abraham was ready and willing to do it. Not exactly 'father of the year' material.
@breendaystarz Ecclesiastes 3:14 says God's word is God's word is forever, so it seems you're going against God's word that doesn't change. But by your view on the Bible, God's word is only true today if it goes with the new Testament? So I guess that whole slavery thing in the Old testament should still be true because Paul said many times in the New Testament for slaves to obey their masters. By your argument, that seems logical. I'm gonna go enslave me some black folks now. Praise Jesus!
Hermeneutics is a branch of philosophy which applies primarily to hisoricism and literature. There is no work called "The Hermeneutics". Also, it is not hermeneutics proper that you should be referencing here in this context but Biblical Hermeneutics.
Even if one were to apply hermeneutics, there is no guarantee that complete exegesis will be obtained. Indeed, despite several Christian Churches using this practice there is still considerable disagreement as to context.
If some1 told me that theyre hearing a voice like that to kill their son then I would jst say that it is either him, he is psychologocoly insane or something is jst wrong with him many reasons why. but fo sho it aint God talking 2 him. People learn to distinguish why are you guys so IGNORANT, i kno im going to get many negative thoughts fo this but it dont matter. dont listen to him, NonStompCollector, listen to what you think is right.(: WORD!
WAIT A MINUTE....descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky? Hahaha! That's around 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 descendants. The human race will never survive long enough to create that many descendants for him! Bible disproved in a single verse, once again.
@Strangerinasland The human writer just recorded what God said. What God said was related to what Abraham could see. Strangland is an evil deceiver. No offense
@j919or The human writer recorded a fevered figment of his imagination. The Holy Babble is, of course, related to what they could see, therefore it is mostly unrelated to what I can see. Who the heck is Strangland? You are an offense to humanity. Your imaginary fiend is an offense to decent morality.
@j919or As usual, you have things backward. If you claim anything other than humans were involved in writing it, it is your responsibility to prove it. Strangland is not an abbreviation, it is a perversion.
@Strangerinasland "", it is your responsibility to prove it. "" No dumbo you made this assertion ""writer recorded a fevered figment of his imagination"" and now u must support it or admit that u cant
@j919or ""The human writer recorded a fevered figment of his imagination""
"Give me ur evidence for this wild assumption. Then Ill give u my evidence that refutes it."
I do not need evidence to not believe there are frigging gods, DUMBO. You need evidence showing there are gods, DUMBO. You are the 1 making wild assumptions, DUMBO.
Boast on! One day the extent of your boasts will be the extent of ur humiliation. Meanwhile, your sin is not ur son and never was and ur own self is not ur own and never was, God made it all and owns it all.
@j919or "Abe had a kid well into his old age as God has told him"
No, he didn't.
You are the boastful 1, going on&on&on&on&on claiming to know things you cannot possibly know. You are a blind fool trying to lead others into stumbling bumbling darkness & being afraid of & angry at those who refuse to be blinded.
I don't believe how u ppl try to interpet the Bible. U all are so blinded by the devil it's shameful, see u can't understand God's word in the flesh. I mean as sinners becuz this is what u come up with stupidy.
I've always assumed the story of Abraham and his son was intentionally that way. In the story, the author wanted to show how Yahweh demonstrates that blind adherence to orders can be heartless and cruel. Abraham was used to living in an age where sacrificing your children to gods was demanded and Yahweh was showing him what he had become because of it...a mindless slave to a bloodthirsty culture. Unfortunately, later authors would not share this progressive vision of Yahweh.
@n2it77 What an amazing sacrifice to give yourself up for something you believe in & be "dead" for 3 days then live again, ruling over paradise for eternity. This is a deep Love. Christ "suffered" for 3 days because he loves us so dearly. Why are so many theists not even willing to open & read the entire Holy Babble to find out for themselves what is actually in it rather than believing these deep misinterpretations from rabid mad dog con artists???
something interesting, i was a brainwashed christian and read the entire bible and when i read that noah took ALL OF THE animals into the ark in 2's then a few champters later it said ALL OF THEM in 7's, I never even thot is was contradictory! I gave it no thot, tho it shoulda jumped out at me like bam!! but nope. The'faith effect disengages the logic doubt (logic) function. Im lucky i escaped finally.
@tiedeast This has got to be an all time dumb statement. I too have known some wonderful people that were christian. I've known some very nice Jews, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists, too. Some of the most generous people I know are Atheists. You probably know some pretty damn nice Atheists, too, they just may not walk around telling everyone. Oh, and some of the absolutely worst people I've ever known or known about have been christians.
@tiedeast 2) No, that's not better. You can't hate what you don't even believe exists. Saying that atheists hate god is no more to the point then saying that christians hate Zeus, Overlord Xenu or Darth Vader.
3. The bible VERY MUCH condones slavery. It even gives you rules on how to practice slavery. You haven't read the bible very attentively, did you?
@tiedeast 1. pretty arrogant of you to assume that because somebody disagrees, they must not understand/have read the story. That's very douchebaggy. Anyhow, the point is not that god stopped him. The point is that he was willing to go through with it, which is a testament to his moral bankrupcy. Also, I don't believe things because "i want to". I believe things when they are convincing. My wants in that regard are very irrelavent.
THIS IS THE HYPOCRISY OF THE ATHEIST WE SPEAK OF: ON ONE HAND THEY SAY GOD IS NOT SOVEREIGN IN FACT HE DOESN'T EVEN EXIST HE COULD NOT HAVE CREATED THE UNIVERSE WITH THE OTHER HAND THEY SAY HE KILLED THE CANAANITE BABIES WELL WHICH ONE IS IT? WHY NOT SAY IT WAS NOT GOD AND JUST PAWN THE KILLINGS OF THE CANAANITES OFF TO A BUNCH OF RELIGIOUS FANATICS WHO JUSTIFIED THERE KILLINGS WITH RELIGION? INTERESTING CREATURE THE ATHEIST I TELL YA!
@altairx26 actually if you want evidence or proof that GOD talks to humans just like the bible says, I invite you to receive prophecy in this church: the only church in the world that will prove anyone wrong.
church of god ministry of jesus christ international
@altairx26 Abraham was a schizophrenic shepherd who lived in Ur 5000 years ago. This nutjob's delusions of hearing voices in his head instructing him to do crazy things, e.g. moving hundreds of miles to a "promised" land, killing his son, etc., got him worshipped by half the world's population and would doom the entire planet.
@TheHeidelbergKid ""schizophrenic shepherd who lived in Ur 5000 years ago""
And now some punk peer pressure controled schoolboy is gonna do some sort of pyscho-analysis on Abraham. Typical of a child of satan who willingly yields himself to the lying world system and his father the devil that deceives and controls it in anticipation of tormenting his dupes forever in hell.
Abe had a kid well into his old age as God has told him. Was he hearing voices then?
assuming schizophrenia is the only cause for things or phenomenon of that nature; otherwise, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, until it can be demonstrated and or shown
The fact is, we praise Abraham for being "virtuous" when he acted on a voice in his head telling him to kill his own son. We exalt the guy for being batshit insane.
@aliciaten First off, according to Christianity, your god knows everything, thus he already knew how loyal and/or disloyal his children were. Secondly, that's a cruel way to test someone, using a human being as a test subject. And lastly, would not the righteous person stand up for what is right and proclaim "no god, I will not follow such a cruel order."
@aliciaten So, did he also know about the tsunami in Japan? Pretty immoral of him not to warn anybody...
Anyhow, the RIGHT thing to do in Abraham's story would be to show god your middle finger and say "fuck off your malevolent blackmailing dictator. I will most certainly NOT kill my son to please you. FUCK YOU".
That person, I would praise... but the Abraham of the bible you seem to love dearly... him, I'ld throw in jail after the shrinks are done with him.
@tiedeast Haha darkest most pessimistic people you know? I doubt you know any atheists, how about you actually read the bible, it is the most ignorant, racist, idiotic, sexist, homophobic, evil, narrow minded, contradicting, hypocritical bullshit you will ever read, guaranteed.
@tiedeast How exactly was the Westboro thing a low-blow? I was merely pointing out a Christian sect that believed differently from the norm. The same thing could be said of Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons. And even then, you have different sects that differ on God's divinity, whether there's a Trinity or none, etc.
But you're right, agreeing to disagree would be the best thing to do. Regardless, I've enjoyed this conversation. Thank you for your time, and I hope you have a good life.
@tiedeast As for the gospel of John, I've read it. And I believe that Jesus said that the world would know that God had sent Jesus through all of his believers being one and united (John 17:20-23) as the Father and Son are one. Despite this, there are over 30,000 sects that have their own definition of the Christian god (including the Westboro Baptist Church), which would imply that believers are not one. Seems like Christianity contradicts itself.
@tiedeast And why should I accept your hearsay on how Christianity makes a country trustworthy anyway? America is the most Christian nation in the world, and yet it's trillions of dollars in debt, it's politicians are corrupt and have their own agendas, and it contains citizens that are ignorant of the world around them and treat people who don't fit with their ideology like dirt. Doesn't sound very trustworthy to me.
@tiedeast@tiedeast Well, that all depends on what your definition of 'truth' is, doesn't it? If you believe it means 'hearsay I was raised to believe in as true', then you'd be right. But the truth is what's grounded in reality, and that's not what faith is at all. It's believing something for which there's no evidence for, and that's all you really have, belief based on personal experience and subjective bias.
Interesting. However, could it be possible that the results are based on the social conditionings of a country? After all, if the country a believer's in is extremely religious, it makes sense that the believer is happier because of it. But could you get the same results from a non-religious country like Sweden or Denmark?
@tiedeast My source is the Federal Bereau of Prisons from the United States Department of Justice, which released a document which identified the religious affiliations of inmates as of January 30, 2010. 28% identified as Protestant, 25% identified as Catholic, with other Christian affiliations grouped together at around 3%. Those who identified as atheists ranked at around .1%.
Yes, I do. If you have proof for your claim that Christians are the happiest, most positive people on this planet, then I'd be more than happy to exchange my evidence with you. Out of curiosity, are you using the Bible as proof? If so, I don't believe in the Bible's claim of authority, so I would appreciate it if you didn't use the 'The Bible's true because the Bible says it is' argument, because that's circular reasoning.
@tiedeast According to what? The Bible? If Christians are so moral, why are there more Christians in jail than atheists? Besides, even if Christians are happier than skeptics, it means nothing. Just because people are happy because of what they believe doesn't mean that what they believe is true.
Actually, I do. I'm a former Christian, and looking back, it makes no sense why God would have Abraham attempt child murder in order to prove his obedience. You're also forgetting Judges 11, where Jephthah sacrificed his daughter to God for victory in battle.
Why is it okay to believe that Abraham heard God tell him to kill his son, yet when someone else in the modern world hears God tell him to kill their son, they're insane?
How exactly can you hate something that you don't believe exists?
Why is the Bible not bad when it endorses slavery, rape, and child murder?
As for atheists being more negative than Christians, that's no more to the point than a sober person being more negative than a drunkard.
@rookerman2011 Do you realise that that goes DIRECTLY against the story? The whole point of the tree was to know the difference between right and wrong once you ate it's fruit.
So before eating it, they couldn't have known that disobedience was wrong. Plain and simple. The entire story is hilariously internally inconsistent.
@rookerman2011 No, they had NO knowledge of right or wrong until AFTER they had eaten of the tree. They didn't even realize they were naked until they did so, remember? "Who told you you were naked?" It is only AFTER one knows right from wrong that one can be expected to follow moral rules. Wrong to disobey God? Without knowing right from wrong (ie., they are indistinguishable from one another), how would they know that it's not RIGHT to disobey God? They were morally colourblind.
I think Judaism, Christianity and Islam were each founded by schizophrenics who heard voices and had delusions of grandeur. Today we would give them medicine.
look at the story og jobe a perfect beeiver is rewarded by having his servents die a plague of boils and then to kill his son oh joy god is so loving -aetheist
@MrAlexAbc You come with that flawed explanation and yet you call me an idiot? BTW why is it always Christians who have to call others names? Is that some way to express how much more moral you are? Anyway, why would God have to see/test that, isn't he supposed to be all knowing? He already would know if Abraham loved him or not. And even if we would accept that God is in fact not all knowing, why does he need humans to love him? Is he so insecure? It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
@MrAlexAbc What about Jephthahs daughter? Did god save her when her father wanted to sacrafice her? And why would he want to sacrafice his only daughter? Well, to make god happy of course! Because everyone knows how much god loves seeing a young female virgin being murdered by her father. He loves that shit.
Seriously, what sort of loving god would approve of that? Fucked up shit.
I hate to butt in on your guys' conversation but I wanted to make a comment about the whole "no one can buy or sell w/o the mark of the beast" business.
What about people who don't use cash in their daily lives, like people who grow/farm/raise their own food, or people who barter?
@cleanmrbroadway i dont have the "mark" i sell things so what happens am i not selling things well i am am i dead no i am not or atleast i dont think im dead -aetheist
@cleanmrbroadway ok 1 of two things happened i either responded to the wrong perosn or i made the mistake of not seeing the whole conversation the latter is the more likely i saw your coment of the mark of the beast
In God's promise to Abraham, He promised him a son who would have many descendants. Whenever Abraham finally had his son, God commanded him to sacrifice him. This was a test of faith. The sacrifice was that Isaac would go to God instead of producing descendants. It was a test of faith, to see if Abraham was still loyal to God, even if he couldn't get what he wanted. This is why it was so honorable.
@ChristiansForUnity- What? How is killing his own son honorable in any possible way? If god wanted to test Abraham's priorities (obedience to god vs his ambition to have descendants) he'd have asked Abraham to castrate himself before he had Isaac. This wasn't a test of Abraham's honor, it was a test of how much of an obedient dog Abraham was. There is no honor in killing an innocent, uninvolved person. And it doesn't matter if some Eldritch Abomination demands it, it's still immoral.
@ChristiansForUnity- Oh, I see. So you resort to ad hominems. Terrific. And you didn't explain a damn thing either. What honor is there in blindly obeying an Eldritch Abomination and trying to take the life of an innocent? Is it honorable to listen to a serial killer when he tells you to kill your children? Is it honorable to listen to your landlord if he tells you to kill your children? Is it honorable to listen to the president of the US when he tells you to kill your children?
(cont'd) All of these end up with the exact same consequnce: dead children and thus no descendants. And while the serial killer might not retract his wish, the president or your landlord might but regardless, you'd still be considered mental if you tried your best to go through with it. So why the hell is it any different when a god asks you kill your children? And would you personally do that? If god asked you to kill your family would you do it?
@ChristiansForUnity No, you're just to indoctrinated to see the blatant immoral ingredient of this shit ass story.
What it teaches us is that it is OK TO KILL if god asks for it.
I would praise Abraham if would have stood up to the tyrant and said "I will not kill my own son because I am not an immoral ass hole, do with me what you want - I shall not bow to this immoral commandment".
But he didn't. So now, I see him as an immoral braindead sheep instead.
At the time that Genesis was written, child sacrifice was commonplace to idols. I admit I know little of the history of the text, but one of the biggest points was that whilst people were sacrificing chuldren to other gods, the one true God did not want or need this.
ooh? you must know more than I do i guess. where did you complete your seminary or college degree in Biblical studies? Or was ancient near eastern textual criticism? please do enlighten me.
@thealphajustin first of all ad hominem attacks without even know me show you to be ignorant but regardless what context was there to take it out of? he said god told him to sacrifice the child and he was going to attempt to but god stopped him.....that's pretty much exactly what he just said isn't it? he just stated that if someone did that in reality, it wouldn't be the case, because in reality anyone who thought god told them to do is insane.
If the God of the Bible is obsessed with death. Then why did he send his Son to give us life? But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:31
@biblemanzach If he wanted us to have life so much that he sent his son, then why did he insist on death being the punishment for even the smallest act of disobedience in the first place? Seems rather short-sighted, doesn't it?
@NonStampCollector Because nothing is worse than eternal death. Adam was warned that if he ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil the he would surely die and sure enough he ate it. The wages of sin is Death, but the Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23. Because of Adam's sin we are all born sinners and are destined for Hell. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. He took the payment for sin upon himself when he was on the Cross. The Perfect blood sacrifice.
@biblemanzach Sigh...The day you see how inaccurate Genesis is on creation is the day you'll see the bible is just a bunch of myths put together in a book. Including the sacrifice of the Jesus character, dying cause we were cursed by two naked teenagers who ate an apple from a tree that a talking snake made them eat.
It's beyond me how people can be so ignorant and believe all these things without questioning them, considering today we got so many liars, why can't there be liars in the past?
@biblemanzach 6 day creation, the earth is 4.5 billion years old, man walking on earth with all animals false, man came after the dinosaurs, through evolution from simpler species all the way to the homo sapiens. We didn't come from 2 naked teenagers, but from a huge ancestry of apes that we happen to share a common ancestor with chimps, gorillas and orangutans at a point in history of millions of years.
All this confirmed by science. What confirms your dumb bible?
@ateopuertorico So you believe that we came from monkeys. I believe that God created the dinosours on Day 6 of creation the same day that He created Man. The theory of evolution is just one big lie that a so called scientist made up. If fact many evolutionist after digging deep and researching have actually changed there minds into saying the the "intellegent disign theory" has more merit.
@biblemanzach And obviously these strange beings you speak of either didn't listen so well to what the two ideas laid down to begin with or they live in the labyrinth with a minotaur as creatures of myth. You're trying to discredit evidence that in bone form alone weighs uncounted metric tons for goodness sake...
@hockeater What? I never said that dinosaurs didn't exist. Obviously there is evidence that dinosaurs existed. I'm just saying that God created them on Day 6.
@biblemanzach And that is indeed what I was refuting yes. Have you ever heard of carbon dating and how it scientifically proves the ages of every scientific find up to 50000 years old? Are you trying to refute that objects exist that are much older than six thousand years?
@hockeater Yes i am refuting that objects exist that are much older than six to eight thousand years old because they arent. I believe the Bible to be completely true. You believe all science to be true. I also believe science to be true until it contridicts what the Bible says. If something contridicts what the Bible says it intern is false. The Bible has been around much longer that carbon dating. Carbon dating is just another method that the devil has used to menipulate the masses.
@biblemanzach Oh now we're mudslinging how old the subject of how old something is? Alright allow me to point out who came up with each concept. Carbon dating came from the minds of scientists who've been through college and understand that the earth revolves around the sun and have proven it several times over. The bible comes from from proverbial farm peasants who by admission of believing said book think god created perfectly in his image and then declared that the foreskin was evil and- next
@hockeater immediately ordered us to cut off part of his so called perfect design. He allegedly soon circumcised himself for the flap of skin he so hated. Want me to point out more ways still that the bible contradicts itself and by its own emission presents your god as war crime committing maniac? Believe me I've got plenty of ammo.
@hockeater Well duh the earth revolves around the sun. Let me ask you this. Who created the son? Who created the stars? Who created the earth? Oh wait i know. God did and you can read all about it in Genesis. Which was written by Moses. The Bible wasn't written by farm peasent, but by holy men of God who were moved by the Holy Spirit.
@biblemanzach Now lets see shall we? What has actually been said in the bible is that the earth is the center of the universe (Wrong), that the sun revolves around us and so does everything else (Wrong), and originally that the earth was flat and held up by stone pillars (Wrong again). Now ask yourself if it didn't say that why was it such a big deal for Columbus to sail west and eventually find North America? How about the multiple history films that said that Galileo discovered that- next
@hockeater through experimentation. I can provide counterexamples that only require you so much as open a book and pay attention. I already opened yours solely so when these arguments came up I could prove it for the distasteful, self contradicting, condescending, little piece of hate speech that it is!
@hockeater Back up your statement. Tell be exactly in the Bible where it says that the earth is the center of the universe. Also where the earth was flat and held up by stone pillars cause i have yet to find it.
@biblemanzach Daniel 4:10-11 state a tree visible from anywhere on the planet. On a flat earth the idea is possible. On a round earth the ground itself would obscure your view if you were say... on the other side. Many bible verses rely on that general idea but you get the point. Samuel 22:16, Job 38:4, Psalm 18:15, Proverbs 8:29, Isaiah 24:18, and many others speak of said foundation. Need I go on?
@hockeater Now as to it being the center. In Joshua 10:12-13 He commands the sun to stand still. He doesn't command the earth to stand still or qualify that the sun should appear still. No he commands that the sun stands still. Chronicles 16:30, Psalms 93:1, and Psalms 96:10 are just a few examples of the earth supposedly not moving? Need I go on here?
@hockeater In Joshua 10:12-13. Not only does Joshua ask that the sun stop over Gibeon he commands the moon to stop over the Valley of Aijalon as well. Now in order for this to happen for both the sun and the moon to stop. The earth itself had to stop. The people of the time didn't have the knowledge of the universe that we have today. They didn't know that the Earth revolved around the sun. All they new that the sun rose and set and somehow rose opposite from where it set. Need i say more.
@biblemanzach Yes actually you do. Please elaborate on how gods closest followers believed that the earth stood completely still, was on pillars, and that everything revolved around their planet without him even attempting to correct that? Why would he endorse it by putting stories of that belief in his bible? Further even by the bad grammar scope of land my argument still holds. Land doesn't just magically disappear because it's underwater. That point still holds if the other side is- next.
@hockeater Underwater or how long you'd have to travel underwater to get there. It's still land made up minerals, silt, and sand. Before you try to dismiss that does a desert count as an ocean now? Further you're making excuses for the fact that if it does exist your god has bad grammar. What kind of perfect holy being would repeatedly misuse the language they're trying to use meaning their book is almost guaranteed to be taken the wrong way? Are they afraid to read their own work for errors?
@yousef761 Yeah exactly, that's the whole fucking point genius.

You're absolutely right. God's disgusting.

What kind of Scumbag God tests faith like that?
paramattic70 2 weeks ago 3
@paramattic70 "Abraham had psych problems."

If you dont receive what you prayed for.....Jesus lied didnt he?
sean32laf 2 weeks ago
@GriiiiiiinD If Jesus can not fulfill the promise of ALL prayers as promised then what makes you think you will be saved from anything? If you wont be saved by the imaginary promises then perhaps reason can save your mind from delusion. He said all your prayers will be honored so pray for something you actually have concern for like a dying relative of an incurable disease to be healed instantly as promised. I think its only when we confront the truth do we really see what it is
sean32laf 2 weeks ago

It's all bullshit though.
frabjous79 1 month ago

Praise Jesus!
auroraman56 1 month ago
@breendaystarz

It's appropriate to mention that Abraham was also told to mutilate the genitals of his son, and his slaves, and himself.

Shademanv39 9 months ago
@tiedeast As for the gospel of John, I've read it. And I believe that Jesus said that the world would know that God had sent Jesus through all of his believers being one and united (John 17:20-23) as the Father and Son are one. Despite this, there are over 30,000 sects that have their own definition of the Christian god (including the Westboro Baptist Church), which would imply that believers are not one. Seems like Christianity contradicts itself.
Shademanv39 9 months ago
@tiedeast And why should I accept your hearsay on how Christianity makes a country trustworthy anyway? America is the most Christian nation in the world, and yet it's trillions of dollars in debt, it's politicians are corrupt and have their own agendas, and it contains citizens that are ignorant of the world around them and treat people who don't fit with their ideology like dirt. Doesn't sound very trustworthy to me.
Shademanv39 9 months ago
@tiedeast @tiedeast Well, that all depends on what your definition of 'truth' is, doesn't it? If you believe it means 'hearsay I was raised to believe in as true', then you'd be right. But the truth is what's grounded in reality, and that's not what faith is at all. It's believing something for which there's no evidence for, and that's all you really have, belief based on personal experience and subjective bias.

Interesting. However, could it be possible that the results are based on the social conditionings of a country? After all, if the country a believer's in is extremely religious, it makes sense that the believer is happier because of it. But could you get the same results from a non-religious country like Sweden or Denmark?
Shademanv39 9 months ago
@tiedeast My source is the Federal Bereau of Prisons from the United States Department of Justice, which released a document which identified the religious affiliations of inmates as of January 30, 2010. 28% identified as Protestant, 25% identified as Catholic, with other Christian affiliations grouped together at around 3%. Those who identified as atheists ranked at around .1%.
Shademanv39 9 months ago
@tiedeast
Shademanv39 9 months ago
@tiedeast According to what? The Bible? If Christians are so moral, why are there more Christians in jail than atheists? Besides, even if Christians are happier than skeptics, it means nothing. Just because people are happy because of what they believe doesn't mean that what they believe is true.
Shademanv39 9 months ago
Actually, I do. I'm a former Christian, and looking back, it makes no sense why God would have Abraham attempt child murder in order to prove his obedience. You're also forgetting Judges 11, where Jephthah sacrificed his daughter to God for victory in battle.
Doesn't make it anymore right.
Slavery: Exodus 21; Lev. 25:44-46; Eph. 6:5; 1 Tim. 6:1-2
Child Murder: Joshua 6:28-40; 2 Kings 2:23-24; Isaiah 14:21
Rape: Judges 21:10-24; Deut. 22:28-29; Num. 31:7-18
Let me guess, 'out of context'?
Shademanv39 9 months ago
@tiedeast
A few questions:
Why is it okay to believe that Abraham heard God tell him to kill his son, yet when someone else in the modern world hears God tell him to kill their son, they're insane?
How exactly can you hate something that you don't believe exists?
Why is the Bible not bad when it endorses slavery, rape, and child murder?
As for atheists being more negative than Christians, that's no more to the point than a sober person being more negative than a drunkard.

So before eating it, they couldn't have known that disobedience was wrong. Plain and simple. The entire story is hilariously internally inconsistent.
ScientificBob 10 months ago
@rookerman2011 No, they had NO knowledge of right or wrong until AFTER they had eaten of the tree. They didn't even realize they were naked until they did so, remember? "Who told you you were naked?" It is only AFTER one knows right from wrong that one can be expected to follow moral rules. Wrong to disobey God? Without knowing right from wrong (ie., they are indistinguishable from one another), how would they know that it's not RIGHT to disobey God? They were morally colourblind.

@dutchbb1979 you are an idiot!God wanted to see if Abraham loved him much than his son!and God loved his son,and sent an Angel to save him!
MrAlexAbc 9 months ago
@MrAlexAbc You come with that flawed explanation and yet you call me an idiot? BTW why is it always Christians who have to call others names? Is that some way to express how much more moral you are? Anyway, why would God have to see/test that, isn't he supposed to be all knowing? He already would know if Abraham loved him or not. And even if we would accept that God is in fact not all knowing, why does he need humans to love him? Is he so insecure? It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
dutchbb1979 9 months ago
@MrAlexAbc What about Jephthahs daughter? Did god save her when her father wanted to sacrafice her? And why would he want to sacrafice his only daughter? Well, to make god happy of course! Because everyone knows how much god loves seeing a young female virgin being murdered by her father. He loves that shit.
Seriously, what sort of loving god would approve of that? Fucked up shit.

@MrAlexAbc "God wanted to see if Abraham loved him much than his son!and God loved his son,and sent an Angel to save him! "
Why didnt god know beforehand how much Abraham loved him ? God is supposed to know everything.
What kind of god wants to be more loved than a father loves his son ?
If god hadnt told Abhram to murder his son in the first placem he wouldnt need to rescue him
Your god is an evil scheming, bloodthirsty, insecure prick

I hate to butt in on your guys' conversation but I wanted to make a comment about the whole "no one can buy or sell w/o the mark of the beast" business.
What about people who don't use cash in their daily lives, like people who grow/farm/raise their own food, or people who barter?
tekbarrier 1 year ago
@tekbarrier They will not be allowed to. Not without the mark. You probably think it cant be regulated. Thats where you are wrong.

ChristiansForUnity 1 year ago
@ChristiansForUnity- What? How is killing his own son honorable in any possible way? If god wanted to test Abraham's priorities (obedience to god vs his ambition to have descendants) he'd have asked Abraham to castrate himself before he had Isaac. This wasn't a test of Abraham's honor, it was a test of how much of an obedient dog Abraham was. There is no honor in killing an innocent, uninvolved person. And it doesn't matter if some Eldritch Abomination demands it, it's still immoral.
califoniania 1 year ago
@califoniania I just explained how, but you're too ignorant to listen to the truth.
ChristiansForUnity 1 year ago
@ChristiansForUnity- Oh, I see. So you resort to ad hominems. Terrific. And you didn't explain a damn thing either. What honor is there in blindly obeying an Eldritch Abomination and trying to take the life of an innocent? Is it honorable to listen to a serial killer when he tells you to kill your children? Is it honorable to listen to your landlord if he tells you to kill your children? Is it honorable to listen to the president of the US when he tells you to kill your children?
califoniania 1 year ago
(cont'd) All of these end up with the exact same consequnce: dead children and thus no descendants. And while the serial killer might not retract his wish, the president or your landlord might but regardless, you'd still be considered mental if you tried your best to go through with it. So why the hell is it any different when a god asks you kill your children? And would you personally do that? If god asked you to kill your family would you do it?
califoniania 1 year ago
@ChristiansForUnity No, you're just to indoctrinated to see the blatant immoral ingredient of this shit ass story.
What it teaches us is that it is OK TO KILL if god asks for it.
I would praise Abraham if would have stood up to the tyrant and said "I will not kill my own son because I am not an immoral ass hole, do with me what you want - I shall not bow to this immoral commandment".
But he didn't. So now, I see him as an immoral braindead sheep instead.
ScientificBob 1 year ago
@ChristiansForUnity You clearly are morally bankrupt.

At the time that Genesis was written, child sacrifice was commonplace to idols. I admit I know little of the history of the text, but one of the biggest points was that whilst people were sacrificing chuldren to other gods, the one true God did not want or need this.
iamlemony 1 year ago

@iamlemony "the one true God did not want or need this"
Then he shouldn't have asked for it and just stated that it is an immoral thing to do.
It really doesn't matter if he retracted his commandment at the last second.
What matter is that he didn't just say "it's immoral, stop this silly practice".
Instead, he exploited it in his personal evil sado-masochistic way.
The god of the bible seriously tis he nastiest motherfucker in all of fiction.

thealphajustin 1 year ago

John 20:31
biblemanzach 1 year ago
@biblemanzach If he wanted us to have life so much that he sent his son, then why did he insist on death being the punishment for even the smallest act of disobedience in the first place? Seems rather short-sighted, doesn't it?
NonStampCollector 1 year ago 13
@NonStampCollector Because nothing is worse than eternal death. Adam was warned that if he ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil the he would surely die and sure enough he ate it. The wages of sin is Death, but the Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23. Because of Adam's sin we are all born sinners and are destined for Hell. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. He took the payment for sin upon himself when he was on the Cross. The Perfect blood sacrifice.
biblemanzach 1 year ago
@biblemanzach Sigh...The day you see how inaccurate Genesis is on creation is the day you'll see the bible is just a bunch of myths put together in a book. Including the sacrifice of the Jesus character, dying cause we were cursed by two naked teenagers who ate an apple from a tree that a talking snake made them eat.
It's beyond me how people can be so ignorant and believe all these things without questioning them, considering today we got so many liars, why can't there be liars in the past?
ateopuertorico 1 year ago
@ateopuertorico Defend your comment. What is so inaccurate about the biblical account of the creation of the world?
biblemanzach 1 year ago
@biblemanzach 6 day creation, the earth is 4.5 billion years old, man walking on earth with all animals false, man came after the dinosaurs, through evolution from simpler species all the way to the homo sapiens. We didn't come from 2 naked teenagers, but from a huge ancestry of apes that we happen to share a common ancestor with chimps, gorillas and orangutans at a point in history of millions of years.
All this confirmed by science. What confirms your dumb bible?
ateopuertorico 1 year ago
@ateopuertorico So you believe that we came from monkeys. I believe that God created the dinosours on Day 6 of creation the same day that He created Man. The theory of evolution is just one big lie that a so called scientist made up. If fact many evolutionist after digging deep and researching have actually changed there minds into saying the the "intellegent disign theory" has more merit.
biblemanzach 1 year ago
@biblemanzach And obviously these strange beings you speak of either didn't listen so well to what the two ideas laid down to begin with or they live in the labyrinth with a minotaur as creatures of myth. You're trying to discredit evidence that in bone form alone weighs uncounted metric tons for goodness sake...
hockeater 1 year ago
@hockeater What? I never said that dinosaurs didn't exist. Obviously there is evidence that dinosaurs existed. I'm just saying that God created them on Day 6.
biblemanzach 1 year ago
@biblemanzach And that is indeed what I was refuting yes. Have you ever heard of carbon dating and how it scientifically proves the ages of every scientific find up to 50000 years old? Are you trying to refute that objects exist that are much older than six thousand years?
hockeater 1 year ago
@hockeater Yes i am refuting that objects exist that are much older than six to eight thousand years old because they arent. I believe the Bible to be completely true. You believe all science to be true. I also believe science to be true until it contridicts what the Bible says. If something contridicts what the Bible says it intern is false. The Bible has been around much longer that carbon dating. Carbon dating is just another method that the devil has used to menipulate the masses.
biblemanzach 1 year ago
@biblemanzach Oh now we're mudslinging how old the subject of how old something is? Alright allow me to point out who came up with each concept. Carbon dating came from the minds of scientists who've been through college and understand that the earth revolves around the sun and have proven it several times over. The bible comes from from proverbial farm peasants who by admission of believing said book think god created perfectly in his image and then declared that the foreskin was evil and- next
hockeater 1 year ago
@hockeater immediately ordered us to cut off part of his so called perfect design. He allegedly soon circumcised himself for the flap of skin he so hated. Want me to point out more ways still that the bible contradicts itself and by its own emission presents your god as war crime committing maniac? Believe me I've got plenty of ammo.
hockeater 1 year ago
@hockeater Well duh the earth revolves around the sun. Let me ask you this. Who created the son? Who created the stars? Who created the earth? Oh wait i know. God did and you can read all about it in Genesis. Which was written by Moses. The Bible wasn't written by farm peasent, but by holy men of God who were moved by the Holy Spirit.
biblemanzach 1 year ago
@biblemanzach Now lets see shall we? What has actually been said in the bible is that the earth is the center of the universe (Wrong), that the sun revolves around us and so does everything else (Wrong), and originally that the earth was flat and held up by stone pillars (Wrong again). Now ask yourself if it didn't say that why was it such a big deal for Columbus to sail west and eventually find North America? How about the multiple history films that said that Galileo discovered that- next
hockeater 1 year ago
@hockeater through experimentation. I can provide counterexamples that only require you so much as open a book and pay attention. I already opened yours solely so when these arguments came up I could prove it for the distasteful, self contradicting, condescending, little piece of hate speech that it is!
hockeater 1 year ago
@hockeater Back up your statement. Tell be exactly in the Bible where it says that the earth is the center of the universe. Also where the earth was flat and held up by stone pillars cause i have yet to find it.
biblemanzach 1 year ago
@biblemanzach Daniel 4:10-11 state a tree visible from anywhere on the planet. On a flat earth the idea is possible. On a round earth the ground itself would obscure your view if you were say... on the other side. Many bible verses rely on that general idea but you get the point. Samuel 22:16, Job 38:4, Psalm 18:15, Proverbs 8:29, Isaiah 24:18, and many others speak of said foundation. Need I go on?
hockeater 1 year ago
@hockeater Now as to it being the center. In Joshua 10:12-13 He commands the sun to stand still. He doesn't command the earth to stand still or qualify that the sun should appear still. No he commands that the sun stands still. Chronicles 16:30, Psalms 93:1, and Psalms 96:10 are just a few examples of the earth supposedly not moving? Need I go on here?
hockeater 1 year ago
@hockeater In Joshua 10:12-13. Not only does Joshua ask that the sun stop over Gibeon he commands the moon to stop over the Valley of Aijalon as well. Now in order for this to happen for both the sun and the moon to stop. The earth itself had to stop. The people of the time didn't have the knowledge of the universe that we have today. They didn't know that the Earth revolved around the sun. All they new that the sun rose and set and somehow rose opposite from where it set. Need i say more.
biblemanzach 1 year ago
@biblemanzach Yes actually you do. Please elaborate on how gods closest followers believed that the earth stood completely still, was on pillars, and that everything revolved around their planet without him even attempting to correct that? Why would he endorse it by putting stories of that belief in his bible? Further even by the bad grammar scope of land my argument still holds. Land doesn't just magically disappear because it's underwater. That point still holds if the other side is- next.
hockeater 1 year ago
@hockeater Underwater or how long you'd have to travel underwater to get there. It's still land made up minerals, silt, and sand. Before you try to dismiss that does a desert count as an ocean now? Further you're making excuses for the fact that if it does exist your god has bad grammar. What kind of perfect holy being would repeatedly misuse the language they're trying to use meaning their book is almost guaranteed to be taken the wrong way? Are they afraid to read their own work for errors?
