All you people keeping saying the book is better. There's more than one book. It's a trilogy. None of the books were DENSE and it wouldn't be hard to combine all three books into one movie. The books are short and written in a unique style that isn't seen much today. If someone had tried to make a movie version that really fleshed out what was important to the story, it would have been difficult for the result to NOT be an epic, emotional film. Wizard of Earthsea especially has soooo much going on that isn't strictly speaking part of the plot (Sparrowhawk goes here, does this, goes somewhere else, does something stupid, etc) that, if done right, could be told brilliantly in the visual medium.

I'm ok with movies taking dramatic license and not following books exactly, but it really annoys me that they chose to make Ged white. I love the fact that the Earthsea books have so many non-white characters because most fanatsy books are saturated with anglosaxon mythology and white characters.

I didn't like either the books or the movie (but thats just not what I'm in to - extremely well written book though!), but we did it for an English Oral at school and the differences between the movie and the book are astronomical! There is such a difference!
I did receive the movie and I did watch it. It wasn't horrible, but yes the books are MUCH better. And they left out so much in the movie! And changed so much! I didn't hate it totally, and managed to watch the entire thing though. I wanted to see how they would do the Tombs of Atuan.... Now I've seen. I still have the books and I will read them again; eventually I will forget all about the movie. :-)

I saw this many years ago back before I even knew it was a book and I quite liked it.
Now I'm studying the book in Children's Lit. Man it is way different. I still like this though, cause I saw it first.

It is actually quite a good movie, even though it doesn't make you think of earthsea. It appears to be BASED on the books. but i like it :)
