@caliloveex Assalamu 'alaykum sister/brother. I don't think it's okay to rule out the niqab as something that's "cultural" because the Prophet's wives were ordered to wear it. Some scholars consider it to be waajib (obligatory) while the rest, all of them, consider it to be mustahabb (recommended but not obligatory). So one way or the other, it's still Islamic. Both sides (Either that niqab is obligatory or not) have enough evidence. Pls dont say that cuz the mothers of the believers wore niqab.

I have nothing against Islam or Muslims. I am not here to attack Islam or Muslims so I want to make that clear. I have nothing against the hijab or the no-hijab, but the niqaab or the "ninja outfit" is unacceptable in a modern Society where people need to know each others identity which can only be determined by a person's face. One cannot walk into a bank or an airport with a mask. We don't wear masks in public, it is not what we do in a modern Society.

I just cried while watching this. It brought back so many horrible memories for me. Women who wear the hijab are teaching their little girls- that all they are- are vaginas. I recently interviewed a Muslim who owns a mosque in my area. And he said that the wearing of the hijab was brought on by a traditional manipulation of versus from the Quran. It does say dress modest and not show your bosoms but it does not say like he said "dress like a ninja."
We have all sinned and deserve God's judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. I am an American woman in Egypt, where the niqab is becoming more and more prevalent. While I respect the hijab and niqab, and I understand its role in preventing rape and assault, I must say that groping and assaults occur very often in Egypt, even among muhajiba and munaqiba women. The hijab and niqab do nothing to protect a woman when the men believe that women are things to be touched and groped.
I also do not like how she gives exact statistics for the sexual assault cases in the United States, but no real figures for any country that maintains hijab. While I can agree that American and Western culture can be hypersexualized, I have always felt equal to a man regardless of how I dress. It seems to me that men need to strive to look past a woman's physical appearance to respect the personality underneath. Islam seeks to even the playing field by covering all feminine displays of beauty.
I wish you could answer the question I have had...why do Saudi men rape girls 8 years old..and justify it? Why do the men think that woman are their possession? Men and woman are both human beings and all human beings should respect each other and stop living in the dark ages just because their forefathers taught them the fear. @caliloveex Assalamu 'alaykum sister/brother. I don't think it's okay to rule out the niqab as something that's "cultural" because the Prophet's wives were ordered to wear it. Some scholars consider it to be waajib (obligatory) while the rest, all of them, consider it to be mustahabb (recommended but not obligatory). So one way or the other, it's still Islamic. Both sides (Either that niqab is obligatory or not) have enough evidence. Pls dont say that cuz the mothers of the believers wore niqab.

I have nothing against the hijab or the no-hijab, but the niqaab or the "ninja outfit" is unacceptable in a modern Society where people need to know each others identity which can only be determined by a person's face. One cannot walk into a bank or an airport with a mask. We don't wear masks in public, it is not what we do in a modern Society.

Actually, even in Islamic courts, women are required to reveal their faces in times of necessity. So that doesn't necessarily mean the niqab is "unacceptable" does it? The face is distinct from your limbs, torso because it is the one part of the body that determines the person's identity. I am against anyone wearing a mask in public unless there is an absolute medical necessity like a person has to wear a mask because of suffering burns on their face or it is for protection.

She starts by stating some facts about women in the U.S. She then goes on to claim that women in muslim countries are not subjected to rape etc. without stating any facts. It's obvious that the numbers are probably lower, not due to the society, but rather the amount of people residing in said countries. If ratios are compared, you will find that the number of raped and abused women in muslim countries tends to be greater than those of the U.S.

But some of them fight to keep it on as 2 women were fighting with a customs officer when we were through customs in canada. I recently interviewed a Muslim who owns a mosque in my area. And he said that the wearing of the hijab was brought on by a traditional manipulation of versus from the Quran. It does say dress modest and not show your bosoms but it does not say like he said "dress like a ninja."

While I respect the hijab and niqab, and I understand its role in preventing rape and assault, I must say that groping and assaults occur very often in Egypt, even among muhajiba and munaqiba women. The hijab and niqab do nothing to protect a woman when the men believe that women are things to be touched and groped.

I also do not like how she gives exact statistics for the sexual assault cases in the United States, but no real figures for any country that maintains hijab. While I can agree that American and Western culture can be hypersexualized, I have always felt equal to a man regardless of how I dress. It seems to me that men need to strive to look past a woman's physical appearance to respect the personality underneath.
