Without really going through the entire arguments, my opinion is this: The only time Filter has changed sound-wise was after Short Bus. Title of Record and on, Filter has stayed pretty much the same, with the except of changed band members and slight variations in sound. All-in-all, Filter is fucking awesome, regardless of what CD it is.

Ive been a fan of Filter since 1999, and its because he can do one song that can cut your soul with a wikked riff n howl (like this version of this song), but then he can also sing great humane ballads that are much better than anything written by U2 in the last two decades, and then he can catch back on fire again and sound like Cobain reborn (as in the studio version of this song). He's got a fierce talent that is about to be given due credit at last. Watch and see. Masterpiece.

Of course RP is Filter, but he always has the very best musicians working with him, these guys kick ass! This is an instant classic just from this clip, they really have this song down tight. It's gonna be their greatest album yet, and bring back alot of doubters who were with him in the early days.
