Really!? This was deleted from the DVD!!!? Wow. It's such a hauntingly sad beautiful song! I always liked it, even when I was a kid seeing this for the first time! How could they delete this from the DVD release? What were they thinking??
Ok, this person really can't sing. The song isn't that great either. I do like it because whenever my family watches it we spend the whole time making fun of this song.
@ColinTheFedoraGuy You probably listen to the kind of rap where two black guys are ass fucking each other while recording it. You have no real taste in music. ijs
@TheAudioStoner No. I HATE rap music. Most of my favorite music comes from musicals. I like most of the songs in this movie, I just think this one is sung poorly.
I love this song!! Nobody in my family loves it and we watch it every year and they hate it! i love it!! It added to the story, without it, we just think she left Scrooge because she found someone else or something.
D: This song tied into the ending. It added quality to the message of what Scrooge lost but was able to later gain through the love of others. While it becomes silly that she's singing long after Scrooge is like "gonna be that way? Fine, bye!" it's still a lovely and bitter-sweet song, especially sad when an older, now-enlightened Scrooge attempts to be with her again in song but fails when realizing this is a past mistake. Despite the flaws, I say keep it, at least in a Deleted Scenes area.
What moron thought cutting this would be a good idea? The entire premise of why Young Scrooge becomes what he becomes and the first sign that Old Scrooge is starting to get it hinges on this moment.
If they release this on Blu-Ray. They should just re-edit with this scene,ib the widescreen. It make the movie better. Make Scrooge more human. If I got dump on Christmas, would be a bit Scroogy.
They do have it on the new DVD release! It's not on the Widescreen version, but it is in the Fullscreen version. Me and my family just watched it tonight. :-) LOVE this song and the movie in general.
I was always sobbing by the end of this song when it was IN the film, without it I dont get the same reaction :( They cut it because it supposedly slowed the film down... idiots.
We still have this on VHS. Some parts kinda scared me when I was little & this part made me cry. I also didn't like her outfit because of the polka dots XD
It takes a great actor to take scenes seriously when they're acting with muppets around them. I love this song and I remember listening to it over and over again as a child.
One of the things I really appreciate in Michael Caine's performance is that he doesn't do the kind of crying people do in movies these days, in which they still look pretty despite the fact that they're really sad. Caine just goes for it and full-out cries, and that really gives a poignancy to his performance. Old-school knows how to do it.
THIS WAS DELETED?? Oh my god. That is a crime. I need to check my dvd, stat. It's one of the most beautiful songs from a musical and it had a huge impact on my childhood.
As a teenager revisiting her past childhood movies, I must say this is one of the few scenes I actually remembered from the movie. Why would they cut it out? It was forever imprinted into my mind.
The song is on the DVD I have; you can choose full-screen extended, which has the video....the widescreen theatrical version does not. It makes me cry everytime I hear it; I want the MP3 and/or video so I can have for my IPOD; will check itunes again.
@clevm002 I have the "The Muppet Christmas Carol Anniversary Edition, celebrating 50 years of Bein Green" The disc has both a wide screen option or full-screen; the full-screen is the one that has the song in it.
@clevm002 You have to go to the root menue and select the full-screen version of the movie.......should be in that version; unless they released different anniverary editions? I have it, that is all I know.
@KBAFourthtime From what I understand, the higher ups thought this song was to slow for younger viewers and that it would put them off (make people not want to buy it basically). So they cut it out.
i can't believe they deleted this it was one of the best songs in the movie and probably my favourite part of the whole movie

Plus, this song makes "The Love We've Found" at the end make more sense.

Awww, come on!! Why would you cut a scene like this? It's so beautiful and the song is just gorgeous.
Dang it, and I'm going to have to buy the dvd this year since my VCR busted. It's not gonna be the same movie without this song in it. :(
I watched my VHS of this every single Christimas since I was a little girl. It's a family tradition.
