Ammonimnitrate is almoust impossible to get detonate, unless it includes some "fuel" too, like Diesel (ANFO) or Nitromethane (ANNM). And it still (ofcourse) requires blastin cap.

Im the same, ryt, dont hold me responsable! You need to use one of the 2 explosives i am about to say, One is acetone peroxide (ap). You make it but mixing acetone with hydrogen peroxide (hair bleach) and Hydrochloric acid (HCL) == VERY powerfull explosive. Put in a straw and you have a home made blasting cap, 7-10g of this is enough 4 annm or anfo.

The other is HMTD, its a mix of heximane (british army fule tablets) and peroxide and citric acid. Its similer to the acetone peroxide but its an ''organic explosive as you ise citric acid rather than HCL.

Yeah, howd you get it in good o'le Australia? They sell sulphate of ammonia which is 20.5% Ammonium Nitrate at mitre ten, etc but thats not good enough unless you purify it. Also, was it ANFO or just plain Ammonium Nitrate, because if you add 5% diesel by weight to Ammonium Nitrate, it becomes 4 times more powerful. If you did use ANFO, what did you use for detonator/booster? Sorry for all the questions lol

Ammonium nitrate by itself is an oxidizer and will not detonate on its own, adding a fuel oil doesn't increase its power, it creates an oxidizer/fuel mixture known as a Sprengel explosive. Also, you can buy instant ice packs which contain ammonium nitrate as your source.

However, don't mess with it until you research it some more- best of luck

Not true -- Ammonium Nitrate by itself certainly IS a high explosive. Adding Fuel Oil increases its liquidity (For pouring in blasting holes) and increases its power. I don't know about the 4 times cited above though.
