why can't they just make the wiggle effect where you DON'T HAVE TO TYPE EXPRESSIONS! ugh i hated math in high school, i stink at logic, and no matter how much i try at this i still have the hardest time grasping it. it's rather discouraging :(
Hey thanks very much for this VITAL info Simon. I'm only really beginning to understand expressions and this really helped me out. I had the point of interest of a spotlight pick-whipped to the position parameter of a null and I wanted to wiggle the nulls X & Z position but while leaving the Y at whatever value I chose. I watched your vid here and developed the expression a little further ...
..lol....funny stuff man im a yank no worries mate my wife is a New Zealander, i here Zed all the friggen time......but think about it ...lol....a,b,c,d so on and so on...then Zed???? thats a word....lol....again good tut..had my laughin my Zed off.....lmao...losts of respct from your bro acrost the pond.....peace
You should be able to. Do you mean to wiggle scale on width but not height, or vice versa? The syntax would be the same, except you would use 0 and 1 only, since there is no third element to scale (like x, y and z for position).
That was very helpful. Exactly what i wanted to find. Thanks

how do you limit the range of wiggling, ie I don't want wiggle to go into negative values

How can you tell it to play the wiggle from time x to time y ?
iCarrotProd 2 years ago
You need to animate the wiggle using a slider expression control. If you google "wiggle slider control", you may get something useful.

Well done!
Only comment is that this assumes that the 3D checkbox is enabled. Without it, After Effects seems confused by the third variable.

Brilliant, please do more expressions... sooooo clear
anitasancha 2 years ago
AE doesn't recognize the "a" variable. What are you doing before write the expression?
anunezsamperr 3 years ago
@anunezsamperr it's possible you are leaving out the ; at the end of your first line

hey i have the program but i dont seem to have the wiggler do you know were i can get it?
truestoryrealtalk 3 years ago
I believe the wiggler is only available in the pro version of the programme. The standard version lacks it.
simonsaysfx 3 years ago
do you know if theirs any plug ins for it?
if so can you tell me were i can get it..
truestoryrealtalk 3 years ago
There aren't any plugins for it. Even if you get hold of the effect file your version of AE won't recognise it. You would need to upgrade.
simonsaysfx 3 years ago
cool..i wondered how to do that for sometime now. :)

yes, still would love to know how to track something thru z space...
TrueScience 3 years ago
I actually filmed some footage for that one but it didn't work out. I'll try to get it done sometime soon.
