Wow what a complete and total mystery why Democrats are running away from the public option?
It couldn't be because polls show that Americans are overwhelmingly against Obama's government health care schemes? No!! It's just a total mystery that defies the laws of the universe! All the politicians are running away from it for no reason whatsoever, just capricious whim! Yeah that's it!
CNN shows an overwhelming majority of Americans, 61 percent, oppose the current reform bill, with barely 36 percent supporting it. Rasmussen shows a majority against it, 51-38 (and 40 percent strongly oppose the plan, while just 23 percent are strongly in favor).
Gallup shows 49 percent against, 44 percent for; Ipsos/McClatchey has voters opposed by 46-34. CBS news has it closer -- but with voters still opposed by 45-40.
They don't like the CURRENT bill in the Senate, which does not include a public option. But most people want a public option, and it's a big reason why Obama was elected in the first place. The reason why public health insurance hasn't happened is because the health insurance industry has bought off Congress, and many Republicans don't even want reform.
Where were all of these fired up people when we started an Illegal never ending war in Iraq? That's costing exponentially more tax dollars than any health care program you can imagine. Fucking mindless sheep. Keep watching Fox and listening to Rush. If ignorance is bliss you must be some happy motherfuckers.
"it's a complete mystery to me..." gee, you think it's because this is, & has always been, & meant 2B a puppet presidency? unbelievable level of denial amongst dems. LiBs wake the frak up. oBUSHma is a WarCriminal, as he's continuing ALL of W's warcrimes & creating a few new ones, of his own, like say BOMBing another nation in another CONgressionally undeclared war, in PAKISTAN? He's still TORTURING at Bagram Airbase. What is it gonna take B4 U all finally get that U've been high on "Hopium?"
The whole hope and change things were just buzz words. Lies in order to get tired american votes to vote for them. Fire the entire Senate, Congress, and every administrative person. We need to wipe the slate clean from these BOUGHT stooges!!!
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FOR SINGLE PAYER.... MEDICARE FOR ALL. There is still time. Rep. Anthony Weiner got some good time on Morning Joes today.... stand with him... we seriously need to FIGHT FOR THIS.
Howard Dean has it right; the Republicans NEVER had ANY intentions about bi-partisanship. The Republicans are more interested in showing up at Obama appearances toting guns. This is indicative of how far the Republican Party has sunk. The Republican Party is now an extremist party and they are becoming more and more irrelevant. I think the Republicans are wrong to be hopeful for 2010. The 2010 elections will likely see the Repugs LOSE more seats. The US needs a third and a fourth party system.
Bi-partisanship is absolutely, inequivocally impossible if the other party won't compromise on anything with you, which the republicans won't.
Obama needs to give up on the republicans completely, throw them under the bus, away with them. Focus a crapppppp load of pressure on the blue dogs and conservative democrats.
Why did he try to get a quick vote before anyone even got to read the bills ? Cap-in-trade the same thing , How about the czaras they only answer to him!! Rachel ask why this is failing its because of (Americains are waking up) and she knows it but don't say it .
He has bent over backwards to accommodate the views of crazy republicans, he has allowed Chuck Grassley to dictate terms in healthcare even though there's no call for him to include the minority in any way. Bush always ignored everything the democrats did, he just didn't care, Obama keeps trying to bring the right to the table...ALL THE TIME.
He should get like Bush and be like, fine, you won't help, then F you. I'll do what I want now.
The only bi going on is Rachel and you if you can't figure that one out thats sad , Trying to push throught Programs like this when know one even knows whats in it .
Max Baucus is in the pocket of big pharma and the insurance comapanies. Anyone who wants to know the truth about Health Care reform visit my profile and look in the comment section. It is a virtual one stop shop for resources including the bills, myths DEBUNKED, answers, phone numbers, videos, all kinds of good stuff that has been accumulated by a bunch of us who are fighting for the cause. Oh and you can also see who else is in the pocket of big pharma too. Public Option is still on the table.
Rachel's style is to bring humor and/or light-heartedness to her reporting. Makes things less harsh for some, not an intent to undermine the seriousness of matters.
I suspect part of this has to do with the silence of actual liberals in this country about this issue. The past month, we've been complacent and satisfied. How do you demonstrate for something you're in favor of in a system where people only protest what they don't want? And why would we organize if we had faith that our administration would deliver on something they said they wanted?
Now's the time we organize too. Let's get some crowds out demanding what was promised us. Is anyone doing this?
Co-ops would help but not solve the problem. They would offer services at lower prices. The flip side is: they would deny membership to some people with pre-existing conditions, otherwise they cannot stay afloat, so, you have to be healthy to join. Secondly, it takes over 100,000 members to make the co-op work based on expense/profit margins. Thirdly, it would take billions and years to implement, and again, a lot of people would be left out. And Medicare would still go bankrupt.
Only problem is, a co-op does NOTHING for the 50 million+ uninsured, nor does it put an end to the price gouging and care rationing that the insurance companies are currently imposing. Basically if a bill passes, nothing actually changes.
If you look at government statistics Medicare is in serious financial trouble. There is no way in my opinion to offer free health care for everyone and find a way to pay for it. The public option would have been a good interim solution until the economy gets back on track. Not perfect by any means but any solution that is not practical is not a solution.
If I'm not mistaken I thought Medicare was paid for by peoples premiums. I think many people are confusing Medicare (pay & public option) with "Medicaid" which is tax payer/gov funded/paid for.
I am on Medicare and my source is the SS administration report from March. The fund used to pay for hospital will run out of money first and premiums will not cover the expenses starting in 2017. SS will start to pay out more than it takes in in 2016 and the disabilty fund will run out in 2020 so we will not be able to use the surpluses to fund other things. I am not sure we can raise taxes enough to fund the system we have now. Selling Medicare would be the public option.
I think that equation would change if the 40 something million uninsured are suddenly paying premiums into the system. Also the prices hospitals charge medicare should be looked at as well to see if they are reasonable and not excessive.
Insurance co's would have to fall in line or else risk losing THEIR customers to the public option (which would bring in even more people paying into it).
There's a way(s) to make it work. Other countries have figured it out. Now it's time for us to.

Yeah this isnt about the general welfare only the corporate welfare. We need to get the government out of our welfare period.

I support the public option. Spreading the risk to a larger pool would lower cost and keep Medicare running longer.
xwarnomore58x 2 years ago 2
U r kidding... right? making those 40 million pay when they are getting for free! And libs eager to get their votes! Thats pretty much out ....
And Medicare folks paying excessive? Again ... are u kidding? Medicare is highly subsidized and still it is BROKE!
The best options:
1) Allow ppl buy insurance across state lines
2) Tax benefits for doctors serving the needy
3) Stop insurance comps to lobby Congress
4) Reduce war spending and use the money here on HC
