  • Awesome video but I wish the solo was on it!

  • I'm so sad it ended!

  • thats what im talkin about!

  • Doyle is so cool in every way, his heavy riffs, his soulful soloing and even his style! I wish you got the solo though!

  • saw him on this tour in LA staple center... fucking amazing. DB2 killllllzzz shit. 2nd row tickets best show ever. best opening act ever

  • @Ziggyztar his guitar is not tuned the same as Hendrix at all.. This is a right handed guitar simply turned upside down, Hendrix restrung his guitars so he could still play conventional chords & scales but left handed, Doyle Bramhall II plays left handed but everything is upside down (i'm pretty sure Albert King did the same). Lets be honest every guitarist takes, steals & borrows from others.. there are very few 'original' guitarists about. This guy is a stellar talent nonetheless!

  • Is he himself or copying someone else though? He sure plays well, and has his Guitar tuned the same as Henrix and can copy the best.......

    Who is this Man?

  • @Ziggyztarz The man comes from good stock. His dad was with The Chessmen along with Jimmie Vaughan who opened for many of Hendrix' shows. In the 70's I recall his Dad forming a band The Nightcrawlers which included SRV as one of the guitarists. Doyles Dad wrote or co wrote many of the most famous SRV songs.

In the early 90's Doyles dad went solo and on the first release his son, Doyle 2 was featured.

Doyle 2 has only copied the tone. Blues is blues, there's only 7 notes. FYI...dropped D tuning

  • @fuxgood

Well I suppose we all copy and there's nothing wrong with that if credit is expressed to the original Artist.

I met Richie Blackmoore at an early teen guitarist, so He has influenced my 'Style' as have such Greats as Les Paul. My Band was 'The Boys', (1963 -1965.) I was their Singer and second Guitar, before I met Phil Lynott and became His 'Muse' until He married.

I do think Doyle is a brilliant young Artist and I'm sure He'll go far. The Spirit of Henrix sure seems to be there...

  • Anyone else think DB II is a blues-rock god and a sex god ? ? ?

  • I saw Doyle II during this tour!! Awesome!!

  • i want that shirt

  • The problem is that it stops before the end! Where's the rest?

  • maybe the loudest band ever

  • UUGGHHH!! Where's the rest?!

  • why does everybody always keep comparing great musicians?!!! they ar all great!!! pfff its stupid!!! enjoy what you like the most. fuck the rest!!! dumbasses!!!

  • Any OBJECTIVE listening for the aformentioned, I believe, bears these things out. Thus, my original post where I stated D.B. "owns" the guitar when he plays it. Night after night. I'm not into the "hero-worship" thing at my age, but the man is INCREDIBLE.

  • Btw, I've seen and heard J. Mayer live too (and I mean live, not a "live" video performance), and, though indisputably talented, he simply does not possess the ability/skill/mastery/giftedness (yet?) to "milk" the sounds, tones, etc. from the guitar like D.B. As a matter of fact, I've seen at least one performance of Mayer where he looked as if he was struggling to get the guitar to "do" what he wanted it to do, and yes, I know, there's a long list of excuses for these kinds of things. Rubbish!

  • C'mon, I know this is all very subject and all but, John Mayer better than Doyle Bramhall II? PUHLEEZE, give me a break! How disrespectful can you be to D.B.? Any comparisons are mere superficialities and nothing more. Though D.B. has made some poor choices in his personal life (who hasn't?), he has taken them like a man, whereas Mr. Mayer has shown himself to be a whiny, juvenile bitch in situations he has put himself in. And yes, Doyle OWNS the guitar when he plays it. 'Nuff said.

  • @checkyerbrain What mistakes did Doyle make? His label wouldn't get behind him so he chose to leave. That to me is an honorable decision. Only a person who made music for music's sake would consider that option.

  • @checkyerbrain sorry, poor choices not mistakes.

  • dbfan has made me a doyle bramhall II fan!

  • anyone else think of "Dewey Cox"? XD "you dont wan none a this shit deweh"

  • i love his voice, and his playing, and his hair. wish he would come to cincinnati.

  • i love his voice, and his playing, and his hair.

  • Mayer plays smooth blues licks. Doyle has balls! If i were a chick, I'd go for the balls;)

  • Sooooooo true!

  • Great post! I've seen Doyle play in Eric Clapton's group twice in 2007. Has a unique style that meshes well with Eric and Derreck Trucks guitars. Doyle plays the right-handed guitar upside down, with low string on the bottom. Very bluesy sound. You have to be really good to tour with Eric...

  • Mayer is much better, but screw comparisons, who cares...they both inspire me.

  • @wick2107 U must be def buddy!

  • why do people compare Mayer and Doyle. 2 both GREAT and very DIFFERENT guitarists with 2 totaly different feels and doing whatever they're doing for 2 totally different reasons...

also they are really good friends and Mayer sites Doyle as one of his greatest influences...how else did he get Doyles drummer...??

  • @JamonjiCahillibongo ahah i noticed that i said the same thing on a different vibe,

  • ...back when JJ was endorsed by slingerland...classic.

Awesome band...never a day goes by where this doesn't get a play in the Van. Big Doyle/JJ inspired fan from UK!

2001....pretty good film quality for 9 years ago...

  • Will be seeing you the 21st Doyle... playing "soft" with cheryl. is it love??? :)

  • DOYLE"S GOT IT ALL!!!! What a package! His voice is just as astounding, mindblowing as his guitar play!!!! Bloody awesome!!!!

  • just because mayer has screwed a bunch of hot yng actresses doesn't make him a great guitarist....hehe. Doyle blows him OUT of the River water. hehe

  • Also did Casey's homework :). Enjoyed it.

  • What's up with the comparisons to John Mayer? Who cares, both are outstanding. It's just personal preference, opinion not necessary.

  • Here for my homework. Late as usual

  • This is Casey James' (singer, guitarist, songwriter) homework for the day! Thanks, Casey, this is amazing! Can see why you recommend DB II!

  • mayer doesn't play blues nor write his own lyrics

  • What a cool looking band. Love the drummer's bare bones jazz kit.

  • why is it that mayer is compared to doyle? doyle is at least a 1.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000 times better

  • @oliver24122412 I say comparing DBIII to Mayer is like comparing a Ferrari to a skateboard.

  • @oliver24122412

Come on now. I think he's a lot mo better than that!!! Doyle rulz

  • @joesl8 yeah your right... sorry (:

  • Comment removed

  • @oliver24122412 to me it is obvious why Doyle is compared to Mayer so much. It's because of the appalling current state of the music industry. The general public don't know who to compare him to because in today's scene, no one knows who blues artists are. They just know Britney Spears and what the latest celebrity endorsed perfume is. John Mayer is one of the very, very few artists in the mainstream music scene who is mildly 'bluesy'. It's all they know to compare him to, unfortunately.

  • gretsh country gentleman ^^ nice

  • Im not big on blues, but this is the first time I've appreciated it.

  • there's the marshall superbass. f yea.

  • Very blues, very Hendrix. the vocals remind me of machine gun. sounds good though

  • Absolutely epic stuff!

  • this is more like it. Mayer goes for the girls in the crowd.

    Bramhall plays to kick ass.

    outstanding.

  • the first Arc angels album is a gem man, go find it, and love it. Doyle Bramhall, Charlie Sexton(no shit), and Double trouble, as in Chris Whipper Layton, and the intimable Tommy Shannon on bass. Every song on the disk is a gem.

  • @Graiskye I have to agree!!!

    Love this album like crazy!!!

  • Plays with the Arc Angels. If you haven't heard them, check them out. They have a new CD coming out.

  • He really knows what to do with the guitar... He talks with it: "Hey, I can do whatever I want from you... I really know how you works...."

Amazing player... And the tones he got..... The best guitar player of the generation...

  • hes lovely. just accept it....

  • i play one string with six guitars attached, behind my back, using my grandmother's teeth. it's a style i'm working on. sounds awful but the chicks love it.

  • That is Awesome....would love to hear the awesomeness!

  • The way he plays guitar is nothing new. That's the way Albert King used to play.

  • why do you think the dude has lightnin' hopkins tattooed on his arm? he gives credit where its due. at least he's better than all the cookie cutter wannabe's out there.

  • he was DOYLES DRUMMER FIRST! BAM!

  • I believ JJ toured with another Austinite before this...one Ian Moore...

  • john mayer drummer jj jackson

  • such a killer groove. I wish I had wrote this. :) Gotta love the Doylemeister.

  • ...it's a shame that most of the world has never heard Doyle...a crying shame.

..I am truely blessed to hear such beauty & soul..

  • True he has a lot of talent, but I think his songwriting can be a bit better

  • Hendrix was known to be able to play amazingly with this configuration on rare occasions as well.

  • its nothing new with the strings upside down. i play this way and also play with my fingers as well as pick like doyle. its just a self taught way of figuring out the guitar. a comfort thing and next thing u know ur playing

  • yeah...I'm a regular righty player, but upside down actually feels cool to play and sounds different. i may someday keep one of mine upside down like that.

  • its some thing to do with learning on a friends guitar but been left handed he resorted to playing it upside down because he couldnt re string it everytime like dick dale

  • Anybody tell me why Doyle plays upside down WITHOUT changing strings around???

  • because he learned to play in a right handed guitar flipped over

  • Yeah, i understand that but i thought he might have changed the strings around like Hendrix.

  • He said once that it wasn't something he just decided to do, but because all his friends played right handed guitars so he did, and by the time people were telling him he was doing it wrong, it didn't sound wrong to him, so he continued playing upside down.

  • Yeah, that does make some sort of sense. Thanks for that. Sure does play awsome guitar though whichever way you look at it!

  • Ye he does. I was interested because I'm left handed too and started out the same way, but shortly after, probably because of lack of gifting, I decided to play left handed the right way up. I can still hit those minor power chords the wrong way though hehe.

  • I think Albert Kings guitar is setup the same way. Strung for a righty played upside down.

  • it makes me uncomfortable watching him play his guitar upside down.

  • Yeah, i know exactly what you mean!!!!

  • Stevie tried to sound like Doyle

  • This is good. REAL good, more stuff like this Doyle.

  • geffen records cancelled a self titled album DB2 .. great album but heard doyle doesnt care for it. He also was on the ARC Angels album back in 92 or soemthing.

  • Great guitarest and a beautiful man!!!

  • great stuff!

  • dude this man is awesome...i play the same way...plus he looks like jimmy page..

  • he looks just like his dad

  • Yea looks like the dad of course but also stevie ray vaughan at times.

  • He SOUNDS just like his dad too! (just saw drumming Doyle senior and band). And they both sound like SRV! I guess that is what living together will do.

  • Stevie copied doyle's singing

  • Bring Doyle Bramhall II,back in Europe for unleast a Tour...dammit!Doyle -Live in Italy (or in Greece..it's the same) NOW!

  • I love this song!!!!

  • This stuff's awesome...wish he'd get another album out.

  • Could you tell me what the name of his album is?

  • The album is WELCOME

  • i Believe he has two albums out, Jellycream, and welcome. this song is on welcome. those are the two cd's i have, he might have others.

  • i so dig that bling of his

  • Awesome song. Those drums are killer

  • Now THAT is a killer tone!

  • i gotta say he's better live

  • Gaaavas mother was also rubbish!!!

  • love him
