It's just funnier when the man plays the fool. That formula has worked since the dawn of film & especially on TV. From Ralph Kramden to Al Bundy, it's just funnier when dudes get owned. The only exception (that I can think of right now) would be Lucielle Ball in "I Love Lucy".
