A black woman I've known for nearly twenty years has said that sometimes when we're out together we've gotten looks. I haven't noticed.
Sometimes people assume that we are married. I've never heard anybody say anything about it.
And we live in Texas.

I was just PRETENDING to be married to a young black lady friend of mine (I'm a white guy) and we got all sorts of nasty looks, though I think my "wife" noticed them a lot more than I did. Most everybody was very nice though, especially waiters and other service-providers. We received many congratulations on our "marriage."

Well, the fact that you were pretending presumably was not known to the observers, so it's only reasonable to expect you would get the same reactions as if it was for real.
I too think race is a bullshit concept and I'd very much like to get past it, I do not think we should be too hasty in interpreting such things as "looks". After all, we can demand people should like this no more than we can demand they should like the same food or music we do!

As a bi white woman...I was in an interracial relationship with a black man for many years and there weren't a whole lot of problems, but now and then some people would seem really surprised or weirded out by it for some reason. But it wasn't nearly as strong of an undercurrent as when I'm out
