I just bought GPS receiver and BTstack just because you demonstrated that you can use google map. But you did it with wifi in your room!

It only works with a GPS app that does not use any data.

You just wasted my $25.

I hate you. I wish I could thumb this video DOWN like thousand times.

Do you know what the problem is?

That Bluetooth device can track your location every second, but as you drive, how is it going to download the map? huh? there is no wifi or 3G on the middle of the road.

So, you have to have gps app like TOMTOM, which is very expensive. I would rather just buy a cheap GPS.

Mapquest, motionX, or googlemap, none of it will work with no wifi.

I'm kind of confused. You bought the item on ebay, that makes perfect sense. Then you're using the tomtom gps app? So the app that you use doesn't have to be the same brand as your receiver? And it costs money even on a jailbroken ipod? :( And, which app is it exactly that lets the music play while speaking instructions and informing you about speed/cameras?

if you have a wm 6 phone, you can use the gps even if the phone isnt active along side btstacks. i have a old htc diamond and gpsgate for ppc, and the navigon app north america on the3 ipod, worked like a charm. but i recently upgraded to 4.3.3 and its timing out when i install via cydia,cant use it.

Hi, I've got the same problem ... but you can also use it w/out wifi:

1. start wifi and run btstack,

2. wait until btstack checked licence, connect blablabla

3. go to your navigation app (like tomtom).

- if you keep the btstack in backgrnd on it will also run when you're leaving tha house or the wifi access area.

On your video you demonstrated using the GPS app on Google Maps using WIFI. Let's see you use it withOUT using WIFI. WiFI enables you to find your location so it doesn't really prove anything.. Although I believe you, I'm just saying.

@mooshoepork1990 I haven't used XGPS, but it DOES NOT work with Google Maps, Google Maps uses internet and does not suport turn by turn directions.

I have noticed the battery draining a bit faster, but it should last you a couple of short trips.
