@211samsung112 They are charging money for something that the "open source" community gives away for free. I run Windows in VirtualBox that is Free on my Linux distribution OS that is also free.
Is Parallels irresponsible? Are they selling to illegitimate companies? A store apparently sold me the same original product that they had sold to someone else.
I only realized almost 2 years after because there is an apparent defect & Parallels doesn't give support unless you register. When I tried to register, the other person already had.
Taking photos of the original envelope, volunteering info & hours of foreign calls to wrong #s ... & STILL CAN'T GET REGISTERED / SUPPORT!
This is a terrible demo. It doesn't start until 50 seconds in, there's a really annoying and distracting soundtrack (rather than narration), and it just shows examples of "modality" without providing a description of the feature. Total waste of my time.
I've figured out a way to merge everything into one integrated operating system. No need for Parallels and all that mucking about. It's called Windows 7 you dingbats.
Is there a way to get a free version. I am having trouble. I downloaded the free Parallel on my MacBook Pro. I am trying to get back on Byond games. I made it through the first key activation, but I try to start up the virtual window, it says I need to buy the software for the key code to activate it. Does anyone have the next key code? It's stupid. Why have a free download when no one can use it? Unless I can get the key code from somewhere else.
O but it is all about that... You see Mac has to fall back on Windows software for all the stuff it needs... I don't hate Mac, why would I it's basically 90% Windows any how.
I mean with all the Windows software running on a mac there isn't any Mac OS there... Mac runs Parallels, CrossOver, Boot-camp, VMware ... and tons more crap...Why? To be more like Windows, because Mac doesn't have very much software that's worth a damn. Your better off just buying a standard Windows PC...
Um if im running windows on the desktop and I want to download something to the windows part can I do that. basically what im asking is if I want to play a video game only for windows can I download it off the internet in the windows screen and play it in the windows screen ?
if a virus infects a windows drive, then it would not be able to infect a macintosh format drive because macs are a unix computer and windows computers use dos.
As I understand it, parallels emulates windows on a desktop. This means that every operation windows does goes through this translation which makes it significantly slower. Running stuff like word or excel you probably won't notice the speed drop too much, but fire up a game or something graphically intensive and it will crawl at snails pace. Using bootcamp however boots windows the same way a pc does, so it would be just like running windows on a PC with equivalent hardware
drgroove is right for the most part. Windows is running inside Mac OS X, and so your same hardware then has to cope with running two operating systems at once. It's the nature of virtualization technology in general.
Most processes will run fine, but the performance of high intensive apps (like video editing & 3D modeling) is relative to RAM & the speed of your Mac & the rate virtual hardware is able to adapt.
Currently Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac renders at DirectX 9 Shader 2 & OpenGL 2.0
They are both different set-ups. Whereas Boot Camp installs Windows on a partion, meaning you have to restart the computer to access either Windows or Mac, Parallels allows you to run Windows as an 'application' on your Mac desktop :)
win7 is new. Obviously. I've been using it for months now it is WAY faster than vista. The hard drive reads and writes have been optimized significantly, it really is a worth while upgrade to vista
Because there are a lot of people who like having the ease of use of a mac and a lot of people prefer having a mac to a PC. But many of those people, including myself, also have Windows-only programs that won't run on Mac OS X. So we can install windows to run those programs. While we don't need Parallels to run windows, Parallels lets us run both Windows and Mac OS X at the same time without rebooting everytime we want to switch. Parallels just makes it easier to use windows on our macs.
@Th3King86 - having two OS's operating at the same time makes the computer slower, but you only do that in certain cases. If I have a Windows only game, or some windows software that requires a fast comptuer, I just boot to Windows. But if I need to run Microsoft Publisher, I'll use Parallels to boot up Windows at the same time. It just depends on what program you are going to need.
wow this is cool, im just not sure i want windows on my mac for security reasons. would be incredibly helpful to use MS word.

yes, the performance is based on your mac specs, like vidcards, ram memory and processor. Its so good to have windows and mac at the same time.

can it be a dangerous program for your mac?
i have parallels desktop 4.0.
what is it gets a virus, what happens to your mac?
are there anything bad things about parallels and could put my mac in danger?
n4oahstein 2 years ago
I don't think so. The virus would be on a complete different Virtual Hard Drive. The Virus wouldn't know that there is another hard drive to infect.
