the current problem with SETI is, that we only listen for short times to very very small regions of the sky and secondly that with todays technology we would detect earth with its military radars, cell phone and tv signals only from about 15-30lys distance!! so todays SETI relies on the fact, that either a civilisation like ours is only 30ly away or civilisation farther than 30ly transmitting with huge amounts of power in all directions permanently... which I find very unlikely!!

Do you know if Seti has been using data from Kepler, that would give them a better idea as to where to aim their dishes
