@mazda1553 Thank you! You can get that there banjo anywhere, really. That there is a very cheap "J. Reynolds" model, similar to any other budget banjos... I started with it, but if I can recommend anything, if you're serious about pickin', get something with a tone ring and low action. If you ain't sure, or can't afford it, just get something cheap, then upgrade later on. I got a new Washburn B17 and I couldn't be happier, but it took me 3 years to do so.
Dude, you kick ass. I love the banjo and the minivan. Stay away from them Yankee women! We're from Vicksburg. Check out our videos. You will dig them, I guarantee it.
@HellzNord Yep, I'm with you, and you're right. Unfortunately, I had to leave my old F-150 when I moved out of Florida and back to Mississippi, so that van that you see, was my Yankee girlfriend's at the time. Thanks for the compliment :)
@thejakeludwig Yep! Raised up yonder in Guntown, lived in Louisville and Noxapater last time I was back home. Very pleased to meet ya, thanks for stopping by.
@lynyrdskynyrd95 Thanks, man. I just started picking the banjo again today, after many months... anyways, I checked the website and it looks good, just get something simple to get started and you'll have fun!
Let me tell you, I've paid for cheap banjos, and it really is "you get what you pay for". Usually everything is so outta wack, you gotta end up adjusting everything, and then the rods and all used to adjust everything break. I wouldn't spend much less than 200. If you can find a used Deering Vega, or Goodtime, get one. Just be careful on what you buy.
Man, you sure are good for just playing a couple years (how many I don't know). I've been playing since about 95 but never looked at books or anything. Don't know the first thing about tabs. One guy (an ex-pastor) showed me one roll and then moved off. Everything else has been on my own. I'm always around folks that don't really like banjo so I don't really play much. Anyway, you are good.
Thank you very much, sir! I've been picking for two years, two months and fifteen days. Since Aug 21, 2007. I didn't have anybody to show me much, so I purdy much had to figure out the TABs, and on top of that, I don't have the ability to play music by ear yet, which I admire a whole lot.
to respond to the comment i left on your hunting video about your accent:
and it wasnt really about the thickness of the accent, it was the type of southern accent you have that surprised me. you sound a lot like someone from up here in kentucky, almost appalachian sounding. i expected you to have that non-rhotic james carville type accent, but you sound a lot like people up here. you accent sounded much more like what i hear in kentucky and tennessee.
Sorry, I'm gonna upload other shootin' videos, that one was kind of boring. Glad to have your comment here again! Well, thank you, I don't mind sounding like all y'all up there! Are you from Kentucky? I love it there, in fact, I wanted to move to Eastern Kentucky real bad. Naw, Carville is from New Orleans, they speak the Yat accent there. The only non-rhotic word that Mississippians use is "here", which is sometimes pronounced "heah". Thanks for commenting again, bubba, proud to have you heah!
yea, that "heah" thing is what i was talking about. but i guess there is less difference than i thought in MS compared to here. were you by chance from farther up in mississippi? maybe that accent carville has is more of a gulf coast thing.
and i actually wasnt born in KY, but thats where my family is from and ive been living here for a little while. i like it, glad to hear you have a positive opinion of it as well, as most folks arent too positive when it comes to talking about KY.
Yeah, I'm from North Mississippi, but I also lived in South Louisiana, so I picked a little of both growing up. Yep, James Carville's accent is a Gulf thing. He was raised in South Louisiana and his accent, from what I heard, is a variation of the "Yat" accent from New Orleans and nearby parishes, which is non-rhotic. Except from "heah", nearly everyone nowadays in MS speaks the rhotic, traditional Southern accent. Blacks tend to stick to the non-rhotic. Oh yeah, hoss, I love Kentucky!
It really don't matter much where you were born, but where you were raised. Your raising is what defines your background, and usually your accent, your beliefs, a common ground with a group of people. James Carville was born in Georgia, for example, and he certainly does not speak like one. However, Jimmy Carter is from Georgia and by God, he has a funny accent. Old timers tend to speak the old non-rhotic accent. Even the "heah" in Mississippi is gradually disappearing among the young'uns.
Always glad to hear from someone who has no talent and plenty of time to leave crappy comments on Youtube. Little piece of advice, you commie scumbag, when trying to call someone a "dumb fucking hick", how about coming up with something smart to say, huh? Get lost, you douche. You don't even have a video of your own. Get some talent and while you're at it, grow up.
hey love your videos you havnt put one on in a while . i tried to add you as a friend i subscribed to only two people one is a guy i know and the other is you. keep up the good work, i bought a cheap banjo but cant seem to get on to it yet.
I totally agree, I relax a lot and forgot nearly all my problems by simply taking a minute of my time to sit down on the porch and pick my ole skin box.
Agreed, that's my girlfriend's, from up North. I'm a truck person, of course! Soon, I will get mine, plan on painting it after the General Lee, the Duke boy's car of Dukes of Hazzard.
I couldn't find a Rebel banjo for sale, only guitars, so I painted it myself. I plan on selling Rebel banjos on eBay, starting this year, so stay tuned!
Just a cheap J. Reynolds 5-string with resonator. I'm thinking of upgrading too, maybe next year or after I get purdy good at picking... thanks for the compliment, greeting to all y'all good folk in Arkansas!!!
No, sir, not yet. But I already got the TAB for tat song and I certainly will be doing it in the future. Thanks for stopping by, Mike, love your videos, hoss.
Thanks! You mean like buying a new banjo, like a very good one? Well, yeah, I've been thinking about it. I plucked some strings on a expensive one at the store and oh boy, it sounded goooood! Gonna save me some money and this year I'll get me a fancy one or something...
