amsterdam is a very beautiful and interesting city, and the fact that you aren't criminalized by smoking cannabis there makes it even better. imagine that someone would prohibit to drink wine in the toscana... it's exactly the same with weed in my opinion, if people want to smoke it, they should have the right to do so, and that's part of amsterdam

I've visited Amsterdam several times and love it. It's sad that every time I tell friends that I'm heading over to Amsterdam for a few weeks of vacation, I have to explain that there is so much more to Amsterdam than what they see in the news or what they hear about.
What you say is true, the coffeeshops and red light district (De Wallen), are just a small part of Amsterdam (but tourist attractions nonetheless). People forget about the history of the city and all of its beautiful sights. There's so much to do and it's a great place to live. Peace.
@fkappreciative. Whilst I agree with a majority of your comment, I feel as if I must interject my (albeit worthless) opinion; I think the coffee shops are a good thing about Amsterdam. As a recreational user of cannabis the very notion of not being labelled a criminal for enjoying a joint is extremely appealing! I will still be enjoying the architecture and visiting galleries/museums in the process. I fear the problem is peoples perceptions being based on misinformation & sheer ignorance.
You can spend a lifetime here, filming, because every part of the city has something beautiful, unique....
