  • Thanks Justin S. You have answered many questions I've had on this. You are easy to follow and you have a great vibe while giveing instructions. The lesson was good fun and very clear . I made much progress after viewing. many thanks!

  • @iceman168888 i have the same problem ...:((

  • You' re the best teacher on youtube Justin. Thank you for this lesson!

  • i'm having a hard time on bending strings and yet having a hard time to go to store to re-string my guitar! NNNNNNNAAAAARRGGGGGHHHH!!

  • Ahh, string bending's not the most fun with the heavy gauge strings I use.

  • @trash266001 heavy gauge? try tuning down to d standard or drop b or something dark and low, because heavy gauge holds its tuning better at low tunings than light ones, and it is fun :D but whatever, if you are a bluesy type, blues is still fun in d standard

  • Great lesson! Thanks !

  • I have a couple questions/observations about bending. Firstly what about when you need to do bends with say your first finger when you are doing a blue riff/scale, how does one get the leverage needed? Also what about doing downwards bends, doesnt the technique change?

Lastly how do I make the transition from the grip used in bending (baseball bat grip) to a classical grip? I use the classical grip as my default, it makes soloing etc a lot easier, but switching grips quickly after a bend is hard

  • Well, there seems no one is talking about the left hand as everyone is concentration on the right hand. I personally have a problem of bending as there is always noise when my right hand bend the string. It was, as I believe, from touching the strings above the one I bend, e.g., when i bend the 3rd string, noise will come from the 4th string when I release it afterwards.... what should I do?

  • 3:52 LOL "Don't threat.." no pun intended aye Justin :)

  • hi justin my strings broke

  • i`ve never seen anybody muting the bent string with the picking hand :S

i thought that you were supposed to lift your fingers to stop the sound ( i've never learned to do it properly btw lol

can you show me somebody else doing that?

    Cool lesson anyways

  • @beck928 that's fine champ but it's easier muting them with your picking hand and it can avoid any odd sounds. i do it sometimes if it is more appropriate at that time.

  • Hi Justin,

I've followed your videos but I cannot seem to mute the adjacent strings when releasing the tone bend. Is there a video solution or can you advise me?

  • thumbs up if you left after 0:37

  • @mrRMN28 fuck off thums up whore

  • I have a problem , MY B and high E strings , ARE IMPOSSIBLE to be bend , especially from 12 to 20 , they get MUTED , if you just started trying to bend them even if very a little bit !! . and if i pushed so hard , they might get broken .... if anyone knows what is the solution to fix this , i'll be glad to know

  • Great lesson perfectly clear explanation

But i got a problem. When i try bending, my fingers always accidentally hit the string on top of the one that i m bending , which makes a terrible noise and it 's frustrating. How can it be avoided ?? Thanks !

  • thanks mate

  • @ickayR Check out justins website. This is a intermediate guide and he explains all you ask in his beginner guide. Rock on :)

I am currently in this foundation, but have only an acoustic :( I need to find a friend to lend me his electric :p

  • A. What are scales?

    B. How does the palm mute go?

    C. I can't tell the difference between a semi-tone & a tone bend.

    D. Is this a beginner 's guide? Just because you're assuming we know the scales, but I'm a beginner.

  • @ickayR If you don't know scales sorry but you're at a very low level. You should learn some theory or else you won't know what you're doing. This is an intermediate lesson.

  • @ickayR read the description of the video... this is part of an intermediate course, if you're a beginner you should do justin's beginners guide... i highly recommend it

  • YOU ARE THE BEST TEACHER !!!

  • Nice lesson, but I'm sure Albert King was a lefty but used a right handed string setup with the high notes on the top. It's great to listen to him play, but maybe people shouldn't watch him do it as the technique is different and may be confusing to them.

  • I think that your fingers work too if that's your preference. My friend bends with his fingers rather than his wrist and he's phenomenal.

  • Been almost two and a half years since I started learning guitar, throughout the beginning of my "journey" i looked all over the net for lessons. Found Justin, and now if I'm interested in learning anything i just come back here and look around. Thanks for all the lessons Justin, you're a great teacher, and thanks for the versatility in your lessons, learned a lot from you :)

  • You are a truly hero for me very cool lesson !!!!!! thnx a lot !!

  • "Don't *fret* if you don't get it right".

  • iloveyou..<3

  • I use my fingers to bend, and i don't seem to have much problem controlling the bends. I'll try this technique to

  • i have a question for you guys : i used to have no problem bending strings on my guitar (been playin for 2 years) but it's been hurting more and more my fingers since 2 weeks. I changed my strings and my action is set up pretty low, is it related? thanks!

  • the best bending lesson on youtube. This is gold. Thx justin

  • Hey Justin do you do any bass guitar lessons?

or do any of the techniques carry over to bass?

  • Tip for bending:

try instead of bending with the force of your fingers, to press the strings UP AGAINST THE WEIGHT of the guitar neck. like when your bending normaly, but dont press with the thumb downwards. it should be allot easier!

  • Angus Young uses his pinky to bend all the time.

  • @stlcards9000 That's Angus Young...... He's a God.

  • Great lesson justin :)

  • i can see where your coming from, Acoustic bending is alot harder than electric but bending on acoustic can sound amazing too in some modern percussive fingerstyle pieces. you used bending in from katies window xD

  • @MrFaulconbridge yes but i think bending strings on an acoustic is a massive hard task for an intermediate player. possible of course, but very hard.

  • @JustinSandercoe not hard if you start of with 2 years on accoustic and then shift to electric . but all in all you're the best teacher mate xD . wish you were in my city so could come learn from you in person xD . I really appriciate you taking you time to help out people to learn guitar :) . you rock \m/ . hell yea

  • @JustinSandercoe Hi Justin,

I've followed your videos but I cannot seem to mute the adjacent strings when releasing the tone bend. Is there a video solution or can you advise me? These adjacent strings continue to ring out.

    Many thanks

  • Are you serious justin?, All the modern acoustic fingerstyle guitarists are always bending in there songs.
