If i may disagree with elgostine, I think he gives the Chinese and Japanese too much credit. There is alot of Chinese influence because alot of the methods are those of the Chinese manual Ji Xiao Xin Shu and extra chinese sword skills And there are some schools of Japanese swordsmanship. But pyungon, many of the spear techniques, and sword techniques like the Bongukgum, yedo tech and I think double sword are Korean.
At 1:24 is Mater Choi (aka Blue demon). He is mah fav. When he cuts, the straw turns to water. If you visit Suwon traditional centre, you might be able to see him.
so this martial arts are based on that book called 'Mu Ye Do Bo Tong Gi', so this martial arts is a combination of eastern martial arts at 17th century. I think
After 7years war between japan, and other war between china.
At 17th century Joseon dynasty(korea) arranged these martial arts and made a book called 'Mu-ye-do-bo-tong-gi'. that book include martial arts from china, japan and korea. for example like some sword ways from japan and some new weapon and formation from china.
and as a result, creating a martial arts style combining the strangth of japan, with the power and grace of chinese broadsword style.. maybe its because japan's cutting demonstrations focus more on extreme focus and pinpoint accuracy..but ive never really seen japanese do cutting with such rapidity... wow..
id love to see a shaolin form mixed with cuts to targets..that would be amasing to put it lightly
@Hanul91 oh... i got the impression it did thanks to the heavy prediliction towards the two handed sabre which is, a noticably japanese thing, while the chinese have it, its not so widely used since they prefer the one handed swords and sabres.
however i see what you mean. and thinking about it more i can see that thejapanese influence if it exists is probaly less than i thoght it was.
I wish I could see such a beautiful sword cut performance life ! It must be a very special atmosphere there! So awsome! Thank you very much for sharing with all of us your beautiful video!
I also love the music very much.
7***** thankfully and admiring stars and favorited.
its called ..probably a woldo, and its not all that different in size to a chinese kwan dao.. impressive without a shred of doubt.. just not unheard of.
though i agree, that looks like its damn heavy. kudos for him being able to use it
thats because most of the weapons in the muyedobotongji are based primarily off chinese techniques mixed with weapons and techniques learned from the invading samurai..
no... thw swords are mostly based of the katana and tachi.. but the techniques are chinese , looking at korean arts from the muyedobotongji the ratio of chinese to jjapanese input is out 70% china and 30% japan, to further illustrate examples, the polearm from the beginning probably based alot on the chinese guandao, not a naginata.. and those spears, especially considering the tassel. are definately more chinese than japanese.
and Muyedobotonggi also has some korean style sword way too. For example like 'Ye-do' , 'Bon Guk Gkum' , and also shows korean style spear way called 'Ki-Chang' (flag spear).
Therefore, that martial arts are not just mixed of chinese and japanese martial arts.

武藝圖譜通志Muye Dobo Tongji : The Comprehensive Illustrated Manual of Martial Arts in Korea
【It is The official document at Korean Dynasty 】
The prologue : 我國練兵之制三軍練于郊衛士練于禁苑其禁苑練兵盛自光廟朝然止弓矢一技而已如槍劍法技,既未之聞焉
“Archery was the only martial art that had been practiced by Korean soldiers. They have no skills of sword or spear fighting”
購得戚繼光紀效新書遣訓局郎韓嶠遍質東來將士
Therefore, Koreans began learning sword skills and others from Chinese.
Almost all the Korean martial arts are copies from China or Japan.

oooh! thanks now I know better. Well that explains the Chinese-like clothes

you saying it's clothes, but it's armor.
and its Korean style armor, not chinese.
and Muyedobotonggi also has some korean style sword way too. For example like 'Ye-do' , 'Bon Guk Gkum' , and also shows korean style spear way called 'Ki-Chang' (flag spear).

Although, eighteen infantry martial arts has many influence from China and Japan, but it has some Korean style of sword and spear way also.
And, six cavalry martial arts are more likely Korean's own skills.
eighteen infantry martial arts + six cavalry martial arts= muye 24ki
That is why this martial arts are called 'Muye 24ki' because it has 18 infantry martial arts and 6 cavalry martial arts.

@plovakia
No, the Chinese like clothes got from Northern nomads, same for Koreans as their influence came from Northern nomads.

무예도보통지 has Japanese influence?? Are you kidding?? Naginata is just derived from Guandao, nothing more.
