Who bailed out the steel workers in Western PA when we started importing steel? Better than giving billions to the banking industry for their million dollar bonuses.
How about you build your own damn airport. Use your own damn money and invest it in your own damn business/locality. Stop making the rest of America pay for your town just because you can't. Don't like it? MOVE, or better yet get a good job to pay for it, maybe they might name the airport after you. Maybe your town should produce something instead of mooching off taxpayer money, and maybe then people will come looking for jobs.

Go Congressman Campbell! Oberstar's argument is very disingenuous--and no wonder, he's been in Congress since the 1970s. I was born and raised in Western PA, and Murtha's an alum of my high school. Pittsburgh Int'l is about 1 3/4 hours away, and I believe the old airport there handles military flights. Not to mention, Altoona (about an hour away from Johnstown) services commercial flights to Washington. Why does Johnstown (a dump that has only gotten worse during Murtha's tenure) need this?
Nice. The economy is in such a shambles that no one will be able to afford to fly, but they'll sure have a nice airport. Note the complete absence of any concern whatsoever for "value" or cost in Oberstar's comments. Pure emotionalism. Nobody proposed closing the stupid airport - just stop Federal funds. They might have to rethink the SCALE of a rural airport and actually giving those of us who foot the bill some VALUE for the money spent.

Great speech John. $5000 per flight out of this airport is absurd. The airport is within a couple hours drive to major airports so it is completely unjustified given the surrounding population.
$5,000 subsidy per flight PLUS $151,821 per flight looking at total federal funding since 1990 for that airport divided by the number of flights since then. Now the real question would be, how many people actually flew. I'll bet this is like Senator "KKK" Byrd's Government run railroad from West Virginia to DC. We must end this attack on America by the powerful Congressional elitists.
And what the heck was Oberstar talking about who named the airport. Of course the county commissioners would name it after Murtha, despite being anti-military and anti-American after floating $150,000,000 to them plus $5k per flight.
