I thought the band sounded pretty good for playing such a huge crowd. it's really unbelievable how difficult it is to hear yourself (not to mention the band) when performing for such a big audience on a pretty big stage like that. unless you have an ear monitor, but i cant see any.

One thing I think the B52s had at this time was a maturation of their pop sensibilities. Listen to the unity of voices between Kate and Ricky on 'Theme for a nude beach'- it's just beautiful. It's a symmetry of singing like Brian Wilson strove for.

Ricky's voice was also the perfect foil for the emotiveness in Cindy's, the elegance of Kate's and Fred's barking.

When I listen to their later work I can't help but here the emptiness of that pure male vocal. His abscence is striking
