I'll be the first to say that this is beyond sick.... but I simply do not understand why Jaycee stayed when she had HUNDREDS of opportunities to escape. Not even ESCAPE... just grab her kids and walk away, disappear. At a certain point, as her book says, she was basically free to come and go. She never says in her book that she was "rescued"... she refers to it as "recovered". There are some serious issues on BOTH sides of this equation.

@the999zombie They mean it when they say the sentencing, but unfortunately the only prison that doesn't allow reduced time for "good behavior" is federal prison. I don't mind that for crimes such as theft but I don't think child molesters should get out for good behavior ever. There should be a law saying child molesters don't get lesser sentence for any reason. They know how to manipulate and make themselves look good.

Probation officers visited the home 60 times. There was a young minor with two young biological children being held captive on the property for 18 years... Those probation officers should do time as well for their negligence. How the hell could they have ever missed that? Another failure of the American justice system.

@benbenalen It's said Jaycee exhibited classic signs of Stockholm syndrome, whilst the motivation for her kidnapping seems to have been in order to provide the Garrido's with children. To me, it does seem that Jaycee having had her first child, and having been psychologically manipulated from a young age by these people, simply prioritised the welfare of this child as her love and only companion. I think she essentially was too scared, and too protective of that part of herself to risk it all.
