Well, to be fair, all of Nolan's creations have their own spin put on them and are given different backgrounds and characteristics from the comics. So he clearly isn't following the comics to a T either ... as is most evident with what he did with The Joker.
@Skeletonwitharaygun actually Nolan showed something was wrong with Harvey before he was Two Face. Very subtle. Great casting too. Two Face was a true threat in The Dark Knight.
Richard Moll portrayed very well Two-Face in the Animated Series and i still would watch it over and over. i think he should have been there second choice for Two-Face .
@incrediblehulkmovies seeing you link batman forever to the first movie is painful. it would have happened if burton had had the possibility to end his trilogy.
To be fair to Tommy Lee Jones, he did his best, and could of been far worse. But his biggest mistake (or the people who told him to be this way) was that he laughed far too much, and enjoyed his carnage far too much, like The Joker. Harvey Two Face is all about resentment, rage and grudges, not enjoyment.
@Kie10McC well it wasnt tommy lee jones fault at all..it was the directors fault for telling him to act over the top,the director didnt let him do his best..tommy is a good actor i bet he would of done a great job as harvey dent if the director wasnt a complete fucking idiot :P
@usernameDOGS No I agree with you. That's why I put in brackets that it was probably people who told him to act that way. But yeah I agree, he would of made a good Harvey Two Face if he played him right.
It was actually Tommy Lee Jones who decided to play Two-Face that way.Just check out some interviews with Schumacher from before the film's released and he talked quite a bit on how TLJ was a pain to work with and wouldn't take direction. Playing the role over the top in a bid to not get overshadowed by Jim Carrey. While he didn't give the reasons for not firing him I think it's quite obvious that it was because he had just won his Oscar for THE FUGITIVE giving him a lot of starpower
Tommy could/should have been a great Two Face. It's just a shame he got suckered into trying to be like Carrey. I do, however, love the fact that Tommy's Two Face always refers to himself as two people saying things like "we" and "us" instead of "me" or"I".
He tried being like Jack's Joker....not cool. I mean, Tommy Lee Jones was a good choice but....Two-Face isn't that charsimatic. He is a mobster for crying out loud!
@napalmman420 If Two Face is acted corectly, he can be very charismatic, its just that Joel Schumacher was more interested in meking the Batman film look more like the comic series instead of making it more dark, that made it more comical in certain parts
@napalmman420 Tommy Lee Jones fits the heroic role too well to play a villain and the fact that a person that scarred could never talk that well made it worse. clint eastwood on the other hand is a psycho in all his roles yet he's always the hero/anti hero. finally he has a voice that could compliment the character and he'd sell the fact that the one side of his face is severely scarred. i wonder if they even considered clint eastwood in this role?
this was his only good part of the movie, this was so awesome, very true to the character. its a shame he wasnt this serious for the rest of the movie
@TheThingKing kinda, but I think the original four movies were aimed to be able to be watch by children. So I think the way he portrayed two-face was the whole point.
why couldn't the whole movie been like this, in the early going he comparable to harvey dent from TDK, sad really, how he is so over the top for the rest of the movie
@PersonalJesus348 In the original yes. Billy Dee Williams was supposed to eventually become Two-Face but they bought out his contract so Tommy Lee Jones could do it.
@MatthewLedZepfan It might be the best scene in the movie. Too bad Two-Face doesn't get better from here. Also, they not only don't show the good side of his face prominently again in the movie. But it barely registers on film that he HAS a good face. All I see is the scarring.
@rcw0388 yea he was a bit too comical and not serious enough but this was a good scene. also i think they should've gave him his own movie instead of having it two face and the riddler
No, it was Tommy Lee Jones not wanting to be upstaged by Jim Carrey. Quite a shame, from this scene it looks like he could've been a great serious Two-Face.
But it's just too easy to blame Schumacher for everything right.
@SLPIFan You kind of have to blame Schumacher for everything, he's the director. Everything that was put into the movie had to get his approval first. He if wanted to create a serious, true to the comics Two Face then I'm sure Tommy Jones could have delivered that. But its something that doesn't worry me, Nolan's movies by far make up for the garbage that was onscreen in the 1990s.
Read any interview with Scumacher BEFORE the release of the film and the negative feelings towards Jones' performance he spoke out against Jones for being hard to work with and feuding with Jim Carrey. The script and Schumacher envisioned a darker and brooding Two-Face to offset the electric characterization for Riddler which would have been brilliant to see.But as I mentioned Jones didn't want to be overshadowed by Carrey and thus tried to be as flamboyant as him. The studio kept him

Even though Two-Face is more like the Joker in BF, he's still badass by default and was the first Batman villain I was introduced to as a kid.
Because of Batman Forever, Two-Face is second to none in my list of favorite Batman Villains.

I blame the script and Schumaker's directing for the insanity. Jones normally doesn't act crazy in his movies. He's wasted potential for Two-Face.
