it was recorded in 1973 at sam tompson elviss bodyguard home elvis is singing with his new women linda tompson sam is her brother i have full tape of this and others recorded at the time
In 1:27-1:29 seconds he is in a private moment somewhere in 1977 a bit before he passed way; and he looks happy, with energy and having fan. That's a proof that his final years were also happy sometimes, not only unhealthy, exhausting and depressing, like many biographers describe.
did colonel parker know about this. he should have known and he should have released it. it seems to me elvis held out on parker as retaliation for him getting all that inferior material. cstanchik
The 1960's folk group "The Journeymen" were the first ones to ever record this song. They had a massive hit with this song and they definitely have the very best version of this song. I still love Elvis' home recorded performance of it a whole lot though. This is one of my all time favorite songs. I also own the FTD CD "In A Private Moment". I own all of the FTD releases so far. FTD is easily my most favorite CD label. Your Elvis videos are the best by far, 10 Stars as always Marco.
@ElvisSacramento I first heard this song in the early sixties by Hedy West. I'm pretty sure (not positive) that she recorded it before the Highwaymen. In any case, she is the one responsible for popularizing it during the folk revival. People like PP&M, The Kingston Trio and Pete Seeger learned it from her.
In any case, Fiddlin' John Carson recorded it before Hedy or The Highwaymen. His version, called 900 Miles, is on Youtube. Enter 900 Miles Fiddlin' John Carson in the browser.
