@haysiefantasie, I'm the world's most rabid US-born REM fan. And I hugely respect and dig KRS-One. But something about this song just... Well, anyway, I always asked my UK friends to explain the word 'naff' to me, and they never quite could to my satisfaction. But you've just given me my little epiphany. Thanks! (And to prove that won't tarnish my REM-love, my husband and I danced to Shiny Happy People at our wedding, even though Peter Buck called that song "a mistake." Hee.)
@askelvis thanks for your reply! Naff is a difficult word to describe to an American-glad you got it. I love how we can share meanings of words across the pond as it were! x
brilliant song, liked it the first time i heard it... i remember meeting these two girls in the parking lot at the Grand Canyon, and they were from Athens and knew Michael Stipe, it was summer of 92, R.E.M. was everything.
Absolutely gutted about the split. Thank you so much guys for the last 31 years, you'll be sorely missed. Good luck for the future in whatever paths you choose to take.

"The world is collapsing, I turned up my radio, I can't hear it!" That's very representative of the majority of people these days. They're all into the b.s. pop garbage, and mindless movies and TV shows. They get more mad at Kanye West's latest antics, or gush about what so-and-so celebrity is wearing while all the politicians are selling us short, selling us out in favor of the wants and wishes of the filthy rich. They feel more sympathy for the rich, than they do for people in the same boat.
I agree LOVE REM...Had the pleasure of meeting Michael Stipes at the Premier of Rattle and Hum years ago...I night I will never forget, I spoke to him for an hour...Very cool dude! :) :)
This song is Great, because has a little of all the rithms, It has rock and roll, pop, rap, salsa, blues, etc. Any person of any country surely would want and enjoy to hear this song
@the4lacedshoe - thats the thing with this lame band--they take themselves and their gay politics, regressive multiracial beliefs, their egalitarianism, their leftest/Judeo politics, their belief in "diversity", their chutzpah, their "we're liberal diversity mongers and the rest of you are 'racists'" attitude, their rainbow coalition promotion-------they take themselves and all of their sick politics way too seriously.
The video editing was utterly groundbreaking and innovative at the time. Cutting edge shit! It stands the test of time. KRS-1 is da bomb, and the song rocks. One of my favorite all time MTV experiences. ( tho I havent watched MTV in at least 10 years)
Not only this song, but the entire "Out of Time" album represents a part of my childhood that I will never quite have back. It represents some really wonderful memories for me.
Hell yeah that black guy at 3:43 can sing like freaking good crazy what is his name ? I have to know I would love to hear something with him sing by himself. ( I said "black guy" because I don't know his name and if I had said back up singer people would have though I meant Mike Mills.)
@spxmet To add a personal note to what I said, it was my sister that introduced me to bands like REM, U2, The Cure, and the Smiths at such an early age. I somehow remember vividly some of the songs I heard when I was really young (born in '87) was from some of these bands. I heard them when my sister was playing their cassettes. Because of our different living arrangements at the time, I considered the time we spent together pretty special. I'd really love to relive those moments again...
