As it's been said, it's a TRIBUTE to einstuzende Neubauten whom Tovey met at a Mute gathering. He liked the name of the band and used it. It's a homage so I don't see where you get your derision Little Phelps. If you like synth pop classics, look up where it started with Neu, Can and Kraftwerk as well as brian eno and throbbing gristle with P.Odrige , all about androgyny and weirdness.check out little boots with numan btw and IAMX.
No doubt its a homage and I know they worked together on some stuff but, it does sound like its a friendly punch, kinda like two friend shooting the shit making fun of each other. He said of Gary Numan that his music is like a fancy cake; tastes good but, makes you fell queasy. So I do think he was out right bashing either band but, it does sound like he is joking around with those guys. Informative post I was wondering were those guys met I should have figured it was at a Mute gathering.
@TheNewMusicNetwork No idea, I'm just going by how my local record store organises things. I was born in '89 so I have no firsthand experience of this stuff (thank fuck for the internet). @TheNewMusicNetwork As one of those lucky enough to have survived that time, i can safely say, we just called it 'music', and got the fuck on the dance floor!
Never quite understood myself this song is Ecumenically great though. I heard it was a knock on Einstürzende Neubauten; which translates into (collasping new building) and; their fans. But, they have similar fan bases and worked together on some tunes, so I would also like to know the whole story myself. Other than I bet your own conclusions are correct.
