  • @MrJambones Several years ago...

  • Are these guys parodying Einsturzende Neubauten?

  • @victoriandeadwoods Thats wut I thought a friendly jab. He seemed to be a playful fellow.

  • @victoriandeadwoods sort of hommage..i've got the 7" and if i remember well EN were involved in it..yeah it reminds me of the video of engel der vernichtung..

  • @victoriandeadwoods Just as @easytears said it is Einstürzende Neubauten playing on the recording.

Take a listen to the 12" version for even more EN :)

  • @DRarkeville Apparently Neubauten plays on the Berlin Mix on the 12", but they definitely play on the B-side "Spoil the Child."

  • I love this album, Gag, amazing.

  • awesome! ;) but from what song is the fragment at 3:18?

  • @KrokanteSok94 It's 'Wishful Thinking' by China Crisis.

  • @witpix thanks, dude :D

  • @ragnare I think the mighty boosh is like this video gone wrong as it was here first

  • I HATE HIM HE'S A FUCKING WEIRDO- Nice. Why bother even watching? the guy helped invent synth pop. And he died at 42. so you, with your hate filled. shit.- go away.

  • @thehasslessydney he was British.

  • I remember hearing it for the first time back in the 80s. It just blew me away.

  • I think Lady Gaga should get together with Frank and discover her roots.

  • @KennethGraham2010 : Then we have to kill her, because Frank died 8 years ago...

  • woww!!!

  • great Song

  • GGRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • I like how shitty the sound quality is on this video, kinda adds to the ruggedness of the song

  • @grayinu Yea its a neat unintended touch

  • I wantz to play the glass bottles too.

    Rip Frank Tovey

  • fad collapsed his self ages ago :p

  • I remember this song too, to favorites of course!

  • Man, I love this video far too much.

  • mental (in a good way)

  • This is bloody brilliant!

  • This is awesome.

  • This is awesome.

  • Brian Eno

  • PS This album, "Gag" is a classic. I loved it in the early 80's.

  • @Mykevin67 Its more than classic its legendary

  • @Jiveturkey68 I agree legendary.

  • Brings back fun memories of taking the bus to Whalley to go to Bumpers circa 1983.....the girls had powdered white faces, pencil thin long skirts, and smoked More 100's ultra long cigs....suburban Vancouver, Canada

  • This is PURE gold.....

  • BRILLIANT

  • As it's been said, it's a TRIBUTE to einstuzende Neubauten whom Tovey met at a Mute gathering. He liked the name of the band and used it. It's a homage so I don't see where you get your derision Little Phelps. If you like synth pop classics, look up where it started with Neu, Can and Kraftwerk as well as brian eno and throbbing gristle with P.Odrige , all about androgyny and weirdness.check out little boots with numan btw and IAMX.

  • No doubt its a homage and I know they worked together on some stuff but, it does sound like its a friendly punch, kinda like two friend shooting the shit making fun of each other. He said of Gary Numan that his music is like a fancy cake; tastes good but, makes you fell queasy. So I do think he was out right bashing either band but, it does sound like he is joking around with those guys. Informative post I was wondering were those guys met I should have figured it was at a Mute gathering.

  • Also I got to ask Little Phelps? I don't get it?

  • FaD GadgeT Number ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE

  • no and he's got green eyes

  • Man, there really is nothing like the batshit insanity of classic industrial. Nowadays everyone's just too damn well adjusted! :(

  • Wonderfully said!

  • @Sesquipedaliantique

    They're not adjusted. They're drugged.

  • @Sesquipedaliantique

It got taken over by homo vampire club music. Blame the big labels and club promoters who try to brush this stuff under the carpet.

  • @Sesquipedaliantique

It will be back someday in a new, maybe more gentle, form. It obviously can't stay the same.

How I know it will come back? Well, that's because industrial was inspired by bad things about humanity and with time they only got worse.

  • @Sesquipedaliantique

    nowadays people are on prozac!

  • @Sesquipedaliantique industrial???

  • Comment removed

  • @TheNewMusicNetwork Or whatever you want to call it.

  • @Sesquipedaliantique Would they have called it that back then? Maybe still new wave back then.

  • @TheNewMusicNetwork No idea, I'm just going by how my local record store organises things. I was born in '89 so I have no firsthand experience of this stuff (thank fuck for the internet). All's I know is, the 80s had a load of crazy fuckers like Frank Tovey and Blixa Bargeld making all kinds of weird noise, and most of it got labelled "industrial", somewhere along the line.

  • @Sesquipedaliantique ahh alright. Back around this time they'd just call it new wave.

  • @TheNewMusicNetwork As one of those lucky enough to have survived that time, i can safely say, we just called it 'music', and got the fuck on the dance floor!

  • Comment removed

  • whitekudu - why should that matter?

The only things important here are that:

    1. He's covered in tar and feathers

    2. He could moonwalk better than Michael Jackson (0:56)

    3. The chick can play those bottles really nice

    4. He's got a cute nose

  • @HypnoToad72

you're bloody damn right! Try to watch "Herr Lehmann" from Leander Haußmann!

  • no...thats all that matters to retards like yourself. Stop being shallow

  • It's cool they way that Tovey acts in the video, good showmanship...

    lol

  • What is this song about? I have a couple of ideas, does anyone know?

  • Never quite understood myself this song is Ecumenically great though. I heard it was a knock on Einstürzende Neubauten; which translates into (collasping new building) and; their fans. But, they have similar fan bases and worked together on some tunes, so I would also like to know the whole story myself. Other than I bet your own conclusions are correct.

  • "dance around the bend"

new lively pupils collapsing relatively old buddy lovely buildings ;-))

  • Good obs Hypno!

He was soooo ahead of his time!

    Love this song and video!

  • Oh my God, You Dont Know How i

Use To Run To The Dance Floor

    When This Started . . . Great Memories . .

    Great Song amazing . . .

  • synthpop at its best! too bad there are no more bands like this, I find it better than today's synthpop

  • At 1:02 - take that, Michael Jackson!!

I can never get enough of this video...

RIP, Mr. Tovey. Way too young to have left this world...

  • Ha ha Ha I Never Noticed

    Thanks Hypno

    Awsome Song . . .

  • PPLUISS80S - thx! :)

  • Yeah, I play the bottles. sup?

  • just freakin brilliant

  • Brilliant is RIGHT! :)

  • Could of not said it better. Brilliant!!!

  • i agree. seriously.

  • lady ga ga is a shallow little slut ,, fuck off,,

  • I agree. I was appalled when I saw her dressed as Wendy O Williams in one of her videos. I bet she has never heard of the Plasmatics.

  • i love this !!!!!!! thx

  • HAAA MAZING!

  • So many thanks !

    Reine Zinzin

  • A totally original artist and performer

  • Tovey suffered from heart problems since his childhood, and died of a heart attack on 3 April 2002 at the age of 45.

  • i never knew he died..he was an original .. .use 2 listen 2 him back in the 80s..takin speed ..his songs told strange un nerving stories....late nite listening..

  • when and why did frank die???????????????!!!!!!!

  • like the chemical brothers said " born just a little tooo slow" I wish i was born sooner to see these guys!!!!!!!!!

  • I saw it live it was SUPERB!!

  • We will miss Frank Tovey, R.I.P, imho one of the most influential industrial-ebm for 20 years (-80's-90's-).

    -Kommunismus oft der east Berlin-

  • Fantastic sound!

  • bowie ashes to ashes fades to grey

    R.I.P. Frank

  • marilyn manson would be the first to say these guys rule, organic analog food for EMO rockers! Tell me was this off GAG, one of my all time fav Album Art, check it and say it's so! Depeche Mode said "master and servant" was written with FG in mind,

  • so good. i'm speechless.

  • so ahead of their time.

    =]

I love this video, he is so in character.

  • SO,SO fucKIng cool

  • awesome!!!!

  • at around 2:40 the bassist must be getting anxious

  • wow just wow. amazing

  • I love the whole "performance act" of this. It's truly creepy and I think it perfect for the sound of this song. Fad Gadget / Frank Tovey = amazing

  • Weltniveau!!!

  • S I C K !!!

  • For those who didn't guess: Miming to playback was de rigeur on British TV until John Peel and Joolz Holland came along.

  • I wonder if the musicians ever got pissed at him for screwing with them while performing. Also that's a good sound to get out of just bottles.

  • They look like they are used to it. :P

  • UNÜBERTOFFEN GENIALE mUSIK !!

  • A true classic... time pals with D.A.F., Die Krups, Einstuerzende Neubauten.

Those were the days... collapsing new people... an underground evergreen!

  • wow

  • Fucking Best Video

    I suck Fad Gadget Vitality

  • frank tovey - RIP

  • este grupo me gusta mucho!!!

    genial fat gadget

  • Oh, Frank, you hot feathery mess!

  • Fucking awesome tune...... this was real music.

    Then we had the 90's...

  • the Prodigy's good.. they're from the 90's...

  • im diggin the bass line in this

  • He's all tared & feathery and being a dick messing up there white suits...

  • Ah great tune with lots of teenage-angst!

  • What a band, this is a true first born eletronic music!

  • I bought the 6" and 12" of this back in the days, still play it, have played it to my kids, who are impressed! I have never seen a FG stageshow, live or recorded, so this was a real treat, what happened to Frank by the way, everyone says he has passed on, but I didn't know.

  • He died of a heart attack in 2002 (evidently, he'd always had a fragile heart).

  • Why is Frank so mean to his mates here?

They must have pissed him off or something.

Maybe he passed out the night before and woke up tarred and feathered, thus this recording is revenge. -Who knows?

  • hmmm..some kind of tribute to EN?

  • they are his backing band in this song. its a pun.

  • Definitely not.

  • Einsturzende Neubauten is collapsing new buildings not people

  • einstürzende neubauten is collapsing new buildings, thats correct

collapsing new people is einstürzende/zusammenbrechende neue menschen/leute

  • yes, but they are his backing band in this song.

  • Wow fantastic!!!The old gloryes of the techno-wave-synth-pop about the '80.....In this song I believe was involved GENESIS P ORRIDGE or something like this...

  • This is an Einsturzende Neubauten reference! That is really funny.

  • Not just a reference, this great track also features (members of) Einstürzende Neubauten. :)

  • fucking love Fad Gadget.

  • this is kinda strange but cool, respect.

  • Great! Grandioso! Stort! Frank was a genious and I glad to say that I saw one of his performance.

  • 10000000 greetings for this vdo, great great great ! Now i can collaps in peace ;o)

  • haters...

  • what are we hating? mtv shithead

  • I guess Frank got "Tarred and Feathered" for his songs! ;)

  • R.I.P

  • great classic here thanks

  • 1: Dig the 'fashionable' Perrier bottles they use in the video, retro chic.

2: Has anybody posted anything from their 'Incontinent' album on here? That was a classic.

  • It is more fun to dance to!

  • P.S: The song is about the people in Berlin. I think the band stayed there during the recording sessions of the album.

  • its a reference to the band einsturzende neubauten which is german for collapsing new buildings. similar band but less synthy. and slighly more interesting from my perpective.

  • wrong, it's about the german people and german night life. i.e. new wave zombies.

  • wanker i'm not talking about the song i'm talking about the title and chorus. they DID get it from einsturzende neubauten. and once you have a chorus you just fill in the blanks and you ahve a song thats how it works.

  • sorry chimpanzee but i can't understand what you're saying with all that cock in your mouth.

this is a fad gadget song. blixa didn't actually write it. so buy some more neurons dummy.

    case closed

  • Mufo, It's a tribute to Einsturzende's song "Collapsing new buildings" and as a favour they played some bits on the instrumental 12".

Case really closed. Grow up and read! You all have the means of knowing lots of info through the net and most of you keep being assholes that are too hardheaded to look things up. We had an encyclopedia in the old days and they did not talk about wavers or punks.

  • i guess you re right, heard about it too

    einstürzende=collapsing

  • I agree, but that's more so the case for more mainstream acts. Some musicians, however, have more to say in there songs, and when it comes to writing actually catchy music they fall short.

  • writing catchy music is writing for the lowest common denominator. music doesn't have to be catchy to be good. Look at Beethoven. Look at Charlie parker, or radiohead.

  • I didn't mean to say lack of catchiness is bad, I meant it in the way that writing catchy music (or what will sell the most) is for producers.

  • i waas just being a dicknob anyway, don't worry about me.

  • No problem, dicknobs are okay with me.

  • Great idea to put him in feathers and tar. Fad Gadget is the best!

  • i am fad gadget

  • los papas de Depeche Mode.

Lo de las botellas esta genial.

  • that was the most badass thing ive seen allday

  • very good song, what I would call 'roots'

few people can appriciate this music today, but to me it's genious, all kinds of samples, but i'm still wondering what kind of instrument (>?) they are using @ 2.04

  • They couldn't afford samplers. You've got looped tapes of a printing press, tuned milk bottles and a Roland Juno 106 in there, if I remember right.

  • It's a lap guitar, like they use in Nashville for country music!

  • well they weren't invented for country, they just caught on.

  • There is nothing new or original about Trent or Manson. There wouldn't BE a Trent or a Manson without band's like Fad Gadget doing the hard work and paving the way first.

  • your right, the only thing they did different was that they hyped themselves up through corporate media and propaganda to make be noticed and make money. Alot of people are like that, but not everyone.
