Brock's always toying with people when he has his eyes closed, but when he opens them...shit gets real. He probably has 6 lvl 100 pokemon stowed away somewhere.
i feel so stupid i played the original started with charmander didn't catch any other pokemon and fought brock.......and somehow i won LOVE YA SPARKY thats my pikachu btw
@gamerswithvideos It's called being hardcore dude. When I was a kid, I used Pigdey's sand attack to make Onix miss a bunch, then I used Rattata's tail whip to weaken his defences, and finally finished him with Charmander. Screw type advantage.
@84raichu LOL. Dude I cant believe what you're saying! Now I see that the old man in Viridian city teaching how to catch pokemon was really useful, although it was annoying if you already knew..
i had started out with Charmander, then got a mankey, Pikachu (which is possible in red or blue), and a pidgey...they worked well for me in the first two gyms easily lol
If your an experienced trainer (like me) then you could easily beat the game when you pick Charmander, If you catch the right Pokemon and train them to the right levels, then picking Charmander is no hard task at all! You just need to be experienced ;)
This reminds me of Lance in Pokemon Yellow when I first started playing it and how I actually tried to beat his team with only a Pikachu (everything else was severely underleveled at the time because Pikachu was all I ever trained)
I remember when I used kadabra against Starmie, I tought Kadabra will kick ass with confusion.... it's not very efective, noooooo, Starmie used bubblebeam, Kadabra fainted. lesson is: Starmie is a water/psy Pokemon
I thought the same thing but with butterfree! I was like pffft who needs bulbasur ( I had chosen squirtle the first time) I was like go butterfree confusion! .... wha? sh**! second lesson: always catch a pikachu XD
if you play the ORIGINAL pokemon instead of FR and LG and start with a charmander, you will know how EVIL this game can be just by fighting the first 2 gym leaders, FR and LG knows that, thats why they give charmander metal claw at freaken lvl 13, but in the original, it only knows ember at lvl 9, and leer at lvl 15, for those that played this game will know i am right.
@meteorseven3 yup, and thats why i ended up being a water/physic trainer in all pokemon games. blastoise was a good start and was fucking amazing in the end
@meteorseven3 More than Charmander's hell, does somebody remember how f**king difficult was trying to beat the f**king Brock in Yellow? Man, try defeat two Geodudes and one ONIX with one f**king Pikachu... oh god, the only way to do it was to train a f**king Butterfree T_T
Oh trust me my friend I know just how EVIL this game can be I started out with a Charmander and you already know what happened with me, Misty and Starmie.
@meteorseven3 it had a 1-4 HP attck.... every time. BTW sorry for the double- reply i ran outta space. oh and im happy Gary stole Eevee... i did'nt want it.
@meteorseven3 omg totally! i was only 10 at the time when i got these so it took me a while to realize that i needed something other than a charmander to actually beat brock and misty.
@meteorseven3 Capture Bulbasaur and Mankey at Viridian forest and the route left to Viridian City. Mankey's Low Kick and Karate Chop against Brock, and then use Pikachu's Thundershock/Thunderbolt against Misty. Problem solved. Also, Primeape and Raichu make for solid sweepers in ya team
@RandalfElVikingo Ah, i forgot. I got this hacked LeafGreen so i can capture 386 without any cheats or events ^^ And yes on real gameboy SP no emulators.
@meteorseven3 ember did a ton to geodude and onix if you were around level 14(which you should have been). It's about 4 hits, and they rarely use rock moves anyway so you can just keep spamming it.
If you started with Charmander your best bet against Brock was to get a Butterfree, its Confusion would hit his Geodude and Onix pretty hard.
Same would work in Yellow, but you also had the option of using Mankey, who got Low Kick at level 9. I reckon they put that in to help players beat Brock, given Pikachu wouldn't exactly do very well.

This guy was a pain in the ass when you have a charmander but then accidentally i figured out my nidoran male had double kick (lol i know) and after that i always used that strategy: get a lvled up male nidoran and spam double kick till the end
i remember in yellow i always caught a caterpie lvled it into a butterfree...took 4ever. when i was 3-4 years old i wish i knew fighting was good aganist rock.
well depending on who you picked at the beginning I would say Brock was the most memorable for me. When I was younger I always had a tough time, losing multiple times. But a few months ago I got yellow on my emulator and punished Brock with my more mature(i destroyed his geodude and onyx stats) strategy, it is hard to believe that 11 years have passed
damn i remember when i got pokemon blue and red it was the shit! then came pokemon yellow and then i went to walmart to buy it and i remember that a walmart employee was playing it and told me that you could beat brock by capturing a mankey in the grass by viridian city, then when i got home i captured him and beat brock easily, that was a nice tip he gave me!
CHARMANDER used SCRATCH! It's not very effective... Onix used BIND! After a while.... CHARMANDER used EMBER! It's not very effective.... ONIX used SCREECH! CHARMANDER'S defense sharply fell! CHARMANDER used EMBER! It's not very effective.... Onix used TACKLE! CHARMANDER fainted! RED whited out....
I used to get well nervous when I first faced these guys. I was 5, and I found it really hard, because I had no idea about type match-ups, so I found Brock really hard because I always used Pikachu!
Thank god I'm not the only person who has gone through the pain of r/b/y where certain gym leaders or in everyone's childhood was a pain in th ass to beat. (brock's rock pokemon vs charmander or pikachu(a bullshit first chioce), misty's famous bubblebeam and water team vs charmander(who gave her that move), Lt surge's electric team vs my worturtle and weaklings(dammit)), and Erika's posion powder, stun spore, sleep powder, and grass team vs my worturtle and has no chance pokemon(Sonabitch)).
I always used Butterfree's confusion attack to beat Brock on Yellow Version. Works EVERY TIME. It's much easier than raising a mankey till he learns a fighting move.
I belive my brothers and I was Pokemon red and blue(Game boy) And then gameboy color..... Then came Pokemon Yellow. So much meories.. Untill my friend's little borther stole it.. .__. Our Gameboy orked perfectly fine until the battery spring broke..
It's kind of weird. Pikachu is the mascot of Pokemon, but none of the kids I knew liked him, and he was pretty weak. Raichu was good, but since the Yellow Pikachu can't evolve, I ended up using the Primeape I caught to beat Brock as my primary pokemon. Pikachu kinda sucked.
My first Pokemon game was Yellow-and gods did I love it.
I didn't have a real Game Boy, just a SNES and Super Game Boy I got from a friend at church. I saved my money for ages to get Yellow, and-it was wonderful.
I was a Pokemaniac, and as Pokemad as they came-I treasured every card I owned, every card I could get; I watched the one VHS I had because we didn't have cable. If we'd have had money, I would have had all the merch there was-but I had my cards and my Pikachu plush and that was enough.
Brock...oh, how I hated him. Use a pokemon other than Pikachu, the Pikachu I'd always wanted? Heresy! I didn't find out about Mankey until years later-I used Pidgey and Nidoran♂, and I'd sit and grind for hours to get them to the point where they could beat him. I chanted litanies of death and agony to Brock as I fought him, assured him he would lose as I hit "Quick Attack" again and again. At last, from their efforts, the Nidoran♂, the Pidgey I never named, and Pikachu prevailed-I rejoiced.
I remember there is no way you could lose against Brock with a Squirtle (or if, like me, you wasted time battling wild Pokemon to make it a Wartortle before this battle).
If you don't know this music, you didn't have a nice childhood ;)

The first two Gym Battles and the starter pokemon pretty much decided your difficulty for the first part.
You Chose Bulbasaur, you had the advantage going into both, making it Easy.
You Chose Squirtle, you had 1/2 advantage, making it medium.
You Chose Charmander, you were at a disadvantage for both Gyms.

damn i remember when i got pokemon blue and red it was the shit! then came pokemon yellow and then i went to walmart to buy it and i remember that a walmart employee was playing it and told me that you could beat brock by capturing a mankey in the grass by viridian city, then when i got home i captured him and beat brock easily, that was a nice tip he gave me!

I used to get well nervous when I first faced these guys. I was 5, and I found it really hard, because I had no idea about type match-ups, so I found Brock really hard because I always used Pikachu!

Brock-Easy with Bulbasaur or Squirtle. Butterfree,Mankey or Nidoran M/F were good options for Charmander starter.
Misty-Bulbasaur easy. I used a Pikachu caught in Veridian forest to beat her.
Lt.Surge-Diglett or Dugtrio
Erica-Charmeleon or a flying type like Pidgeotto
Sabrina-Haunter/Gengar kill her fast due to them being half poison
Koga-Kadabra/Alakazam or a fire type
Blaine-Blastoise or Gyrados
Giovanni-Blastoise or Gyrados

Being poisonous makes Sabrina STRONG against them.

Thank god I'm not the only person who has gone through the pain of r/b/y where certain gym leaders or in everyone's childhood was a pain in th ass to beat. (brock's rock pokemon vs charmander or pikachu(a bullshit first chioce), misty's famous bubblebeam and water team vs charmander(who gave her that move), Lt surge's electric team vs my worturtle and weaklings(dammit)), and Erika's posion powder, stun spore, sleep powder, and grass team vs my worturtle and has no chance pokemon(Sonabitch)).

misty was so hard if you picked charmander ;_;
StupidFly98 2 years ago 6
You could always get an oddish / bellsprout by then, as well as a pikachu.
Brock was much harder for charmader IMO cause you had like, Him, and pidgey and Rattata.

At last, from their efforts, the Nidoran♂, the Pidgey I never named, and Pikachu prevailed-I rejoiced.

it easier to fight brock in firered if u have a charmander cause it learned metal claw
but in red starting off with a charmander meant HELL with the first 2 gym leaders

I remember there is no way you could lose against Brock with a Squirtle (or if, like me, you wasted time battling wild Pokemon to make it a Wartortle before this battle).
