  • If you don't know this music, you didn't have a nice childhood ;)

  • Squirtle Lvl 10 = Raped

  • Brock's always toying with people when he has his eyes closed, but when he opens them...shit gets real. He probably has 6 lvl 100 pokemon stowed away somewhere.

  • gym leader Brock opened his eyes

HOLY CRAP, THE WORLD IS OVER!!!

  • Ah, memories of your starter becoming a new, more powerful L:16 Pokémon.

  • 0:25

  • brock is so.. LIGHT!

  • i feel so stupid i played the original started with charmander didn't catch any other pokemon and fought brock.......and somehow i won LOVE YA SPARKY thats my pikachu btw

  • Never played through the game w/ Charmander. I'll probably go grab my Red version and give it a try soon.

  • .....the good old times

  • LEADER BROCK WOULD LIKE TO PWN YOUR CHARMANDER.

  • EPIC ECHO

  • You remember that intense feeling when you heard this music? This is no ordinary battle anymore.

    SHIT JUST GOT REAL

  • Charmeleon used ember

    It's not very effective...

    Starmie used bubblebeam!

    It's super effective!

    Charmeleon fainted!

    FFFUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • charmander train to 16

pikachu hell train to 20 when you learn slam

  • X3 i pick water all the time Xp but i love alot of pokemon i had a drame that crys is in a new game

  • is it me or is brock looking cooler in the game but lamer in the anime??

  • can you believe that some dumbasses choose fire as their starting pokemon??

    *facepalm*

  • @gamerswithvideos It's called being hardcore dude. When I was a kid, I used Pigdey's sand attack to make Onix miss a bunch, then I used Rattata's tail whip to weaken his defences, and finally finished him with Charmander. Screw type advantage.

  • @TopHattedIceMan

SCREW NONDAMAGING MOVES HIT EM HARD WITH ONLY ATTACKS LIKE A BOSS

  • The only black guy in the game is the first gym leader...

  • @GOllumboy101 and he's not even black in the game :(

  • @84raichu LOL. Dude I cant believe what you're saying! Now I see that the old man in Viridian city teaching how to catch pokemon was really useful, although it was annoying if you already knew..

  • i hear move effects

  • WILD RATATA APPEARED!!!!!!!

    no one cared......

  • best music from the game!!

i need to go play it now

  • >Catch Caterpie

    >Grind till Buterfree

    >Spam Psychic

Yeah it the hard way as a kid. :C

  • WILD NURSE JOY APPEARED!

    BROCK FAINTED!

  • @BennyFourStrings your right! :D

  • @BennyFourStrings WILD OFFICER JENNY AND NURSE JOY APPEARED!

    CRITICAL HIT

    It's super effective

    Brock Fainted!

  • Hello Childhood :)

  • i always used mankey to face brock

  • 1. Catch Nidorian

    2. Train it to learn double kick

    3. ?????

    4. Rape Brock and get profit.

  • i started with pickachu... had to train a metapod to butterfly till it knew confusion hahah goodoldays...

  • Most epic Gym Leader theme EVER! thumps up!

  • Hypno!:D With Psychokenese and Hypnose and Confusion :D and then i heard flamethrower?

  • Ahhhh! Where the heck is the repeat button!

  • man...i remember playing this game and whenever a legendary appeared i would be so happy, but in the new games i just go like kewl :\

  • @kalinda619 Yeah cuz they actually track the legendaries for you and they don't run as much! :\

  • i had started out with Charmander, then got a mankey, Pikachu (which is possible in red or blue), and a pidgey...they worked well for me in the first two gyms easily lol

  • This song, along with the Gen II version of Kanto gym leader theme, are both remixed into the one in HG/SS.

And out came a song awesome beyond belief.

  • Red/Blue were hell for the 2 first gyms...

  • If your an experienced trainer (like me) then you could easily beat the game when you pick Charmander, If you catch the right Pokemon and train them to the right levels, then picking Charmander is no hard task at all! You just need to be experienced ;)

  • the firered/leafgreen music was good but it cannot compare to this!!!

Me: Okay Pikachu use Quick Attack!

    Not very effective

    Brock: Onix use Bind!

    Pikachu can't move!

    Onix's attack continues

Me: Well okay this is gonna end badly

  • Everyone, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but CHARMANDER was the best starter of all time! THE BEST STARTER OF ALL TIME!

  • This reminds me of Lance in Pokemon Yellow when I first started playing it and how I actually tried to beat his team with only a Pikachu (everything else was severely underleveled at the time because Pikachu was all I ever trained)

  • The first two Gym Battles and the starter pokemon pretty much decided your difficulty for the first part.

You Chose Bulbasaur, you had the advantage going into both, making it Easy.

You Chose Squirtle, you had 1/2 advantage, making it medium.

You Chose Charmander, you were at a disadvantage for both Gyms.

  • so when I battled Brock on yellow version using Pikachu, I thought I could win just like Ash did in the show.

    Pikachu used THUNDERSHOCK!

    It doesn't affect ONIX!

COME ON PIKACHU!!! KEEP USING THUNDERSHOCK!!! EVENTUALLY IT WILL WORK!!!

  • @martincordon

i've actually trained my pikachu up so that it will learn slam so i can beat brock with only pikachu

  • @martincordon wow

  • @martincordon you mean you didn't use on geodude first?!?!? For shame XD.

  • i love this games, i dont care about people saying this is nerd, this games are just funny as hell

  • Y'know what? I heard this song a good number of times. On yellow. Before i beat Brock. I died... over and over and over and over...

  • I remember when I used kadabra against Starmie, I tought Kadabra will kick ass with confusion.... it's not very efective, noooooo, Starmie used bubblebeam, Kadabra fainted. lesson is: Starmie is a water/psy Pokemon

    the good old day's ^^

  • I thought the same thing but with butterfree! I was like pffft who needs bulbasur ( I had chosen squirtle the first time) I was like go butterfree confusion! .... wha? sh**! second lesson: always catch a pikachu XD

  • Jynx's flash move should be a one hit K.O. to male Pokemon.

    Thumbs up if you agree.

  • lmao I never thought of "flash" being used like that xD. I have no clue how that lights up caves though x__x

  • @EviILink omfg lol xD.

  • @EviILink YOU would die,YOUR ENEMY would also die,THE ENTIRE WORLD will die because of Jynx`s flash O_O

  • @EviILink Brock fainted! Use next Pokemon?

  • @EviILink That's hardly fair

  • @EviILink They didn't have male/female in first generation.

  • i started out with bulbasaur in R/B/Y but when i got to miss ice of the elite 4 i lost then charmander lost again and last squirtle. i won.

P.s its always best to choose squirtle because when you get articuno hes good against bruno, lance, and gary.

  • R/B hated Charmander. I'm glad I used Squirtle.

  • if you play the ORIGINAL pokemon instead of FR and LG and start with a charmander, you will know how EVIL this game can be just by fighting the first 2 gym leaders, FR and LG knows that, thats why they give charmander metal claw at freaken lvl 13, but in the original, it only knows ember at lvl 9, and leer at lvl 15, for those that played this game will know i am right.

  • @meteorseven3 yup, and thats why i ended up being a water/physic trainer in all pokemon games. blastoise was a good start and was fucking amazing in the end

  • its meant to be based on skill, bulbasaur is for begginers, squirtle for medium, charmander for skill.

  • pikachu and butterfree man that was my way of handling that.

  • @meteorseven3 More than Charmander's hell, does somebody remember how f**king difficult was trying to beat the f**king Brock in Yellow? Man, try defeat two Geodudes and one ONIX with one f**king Pikachu... oh god, the only way to do it was to train a f**king Butterfree T_T

  • @ Meteorseven3

Oh trust me my friend I know just how EVIL this game can be I started out with a Charmander and you already know what happened with me, Misty and Starmie.

    *Cues Bubblebeam sound effect*

  • @meteorseven3 The good old days!

  • @meteorseven3

I always started with Charmander. No wonder I never finished the game.

  • @meteorseven3 Squirtlezorz R T3H 8357! R TEH BEST!

  • @meteorseven3

It does make up for it getting a Charizard, though..

  • @meteorseven3 OMG yes THANK YOU sum1 mentions that!!!

your Pikachu is useless.... i had to hit him... this is my party:

Pidgeotto :LV12 knew sand-attack and gust....and leard quick attack AFTER the battle, how ironic.

Caterpie :LV6 knew tackle and sting shot

Pikachu :LV13 knew thundershock, thunderwave, quickattack, and growl.

and i went on pikachu used growl until it had no effect and used quickattack.

i went on the other pokemon and used their status effects then used their physical move

  • @meteorseven3 it had a 1-4 HP attck.... every time. BTW sorry for the double- reply i ran outta space. oh and im happy Gary stole Eevee... i did'nt want it.

  • @meteorseven3 omg totally! i was only 10 at the time when i got these so it took me a while to realize that i needed something other than a charmander to actually beat brock and misty.

  • @meteorseven3 Capture Bulbasaur and Mankey at Viridian forest and the route left to Viridian City. Mankey's Low Kick and Karate Chop against Brock, and then use Pikachu's Thundershock/Thunderbolt against Misty. Problem solved. Also, Primeape and Raichu make for solid sweepers in ya team

  • @Ryuurik You wrote Bulsabaur and capture in one sentence and that freak me out =S

  • @RandalfElVikingo Ah, i forgot. I got this hacked LeafGreen so i can capture 386 without any cheats or events ^^ And yes on real gameboy SP no emulators.

  • @Ryuurik in Mexico you can find a lot of pokemon hack games in sell =3 i hate the fact of trade or waiting for the events to get pokemons

  • @meteorseven3 ....Which is why Charmander is one of the few starters I dislike.

  • @meteorseven3 i still have the original yellow for gameboy colour! i still play this gae! i hate the way they did things to this!

  • @meteorseven3

    catch a mankey numnutz

  • @moo69cow NO.

  • @meteorseven3 i caught a nidoran and leveled it up to learn double kick =)

  • @meteorseven3 And for us who started with Bulbasaur, it was awesome :D

  • @meteorseven3 Just get a Mankey. That's what I did,

  • @meteorseven3 yep

  • @meteorseven3 fuck that, what if you had yellow like me. electric didnt do shit to rock!

  • @meteorseven3 Oh...Those were the days....

  • @meteorseven3 LOL in yellow, brocks nearly IMPOSSIBLE to beat hahaha pickacchu vs brock?

  • @meteorseven3 - It only made even more exciting to have him i guess, cause i just wanted a frikin dragon afterwards^^ loolz

  • @meteorseven3 yeh but i still kill Onix at level 12 with my Charmander. I wonder i any beaten that?

  • yea, to counter that though I always had a Charizard by the time I reached Misty xD Of course, it never listened...

    "Charizard use flamethrower!"

    "Charizard took a nap!"

  • @SoloRazaSoldier13 do you know why charizard don't obey to ash

because ash train charizard very bad

  • @satan666746 That also happens in the game when you trade Pokémon. I guess Charizard was considered traded

  • @SapphireSonic i see pokémon on TV you will see all indigo episodes and orange

  • @meteorseven3 It's absolutely right !

Against Brock, if you didn't catch Mankey => It's hell !

Against Misty, Starmie destroys every Pokémon with water gun, even Pikachu has difficulties to beat Starmie.

  • @Darkappler i caughta oddish and used it

(if my bulbasaur fainted which it didnt)

  • @meteorseven3 Yea for brock i just spammed ember and for misty i had to go down to vermillion first to evolve charmander XD

  • @meteorseven3 ember did a ton to geodude and onix if you were around level 14(which you should have been). It's about 4 hits, and they rarely use rock moves anyway so you can just keep spamming it.

  • @meteorseven3 It is actually genius, because it kind of disguised the game has Easy, Medium, and Hard based on that initial choice.

  • @meteorseven3 the easiest way to beat brock was cacthing a caterpie and evolving to butterfree, confusion can fuck onix hard

  • @meteorseven3

If you played the original yellow then you are doomed one way or another against Brock

  • @meteorseven3 Oh yes I remember. I had to get a big team and lv them all up just to finally beat Brock. Getting a water type was my first priority.

  • If you started with Charmander your best bet against Brock was to get a Butterfree, its Confusion would hit his Geodude and Onix pretty hard.

Same would work in Yellow, but you also had the option of using Mankey, who got Low Kick at level 9. I reckon they put that in to help players beat Brock, given Pikachu wouldn't exactly do very well.

  • @m0ffx

or get a Nidoran with Double Kick.

  • I just heard the moves screech, wing attack, and hydro pump i think, in this song o.o

  • confuse ray, hydro pump, wing attack, tackle...

  • i dont care about any other themes. This was the beginning of Gym leader epicness. Everyone knows what that opening means. Time to Do work!!! 5/5

  • i defeated brock easily with just sqirtle. All i had to do was use bubble

  • I hated Misty's Starmie.

    "Enemy Starmie used Bubblebeam!"

    "Charmeleon fainted!"

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

  • Shoulda caught a Pikachu ^^

  • it took me like a week to defeat brock... i had a lvl 12 pikachu lvl 11 pidgey lvl 10 rattata lvl 11 butterfree and charmander lvl 13 on pokemon red

  • Pikachu, Rattata, Pidgey, and Charmander wouldnt be so much help >_>. I defeated brock wit a charmander to. JUST it. i used metal claw alot.

  • there was no metal claw in yrb

  • oh yea i wuz thinkin about firered/leafgreen. haha sorry...

  • imagine this on gh3 :)

  • Imagine it on gh5... bet someone'll put it on :)

  • it would be so fun :)

  • Did I just hear... a Jynx?

  • Yeah, and you also heard a Muk

  • Brock was absolutly NAILS on yellow!

    I went in with a lvl9 pikachu, lvl11 butterfree, lvl7 rattata and a lvl8 pidgey.

It took me 12 tries before i beat him

  • Psh, fail. With a level 11 Butterfree he should be butter. Or you could have just leveled your other stuff.

  • thats why i caught a mankey

  • ha yea i know. I kept on lost so many times I just said F*** it. Got myself a Caterpie and leveled it up til it learned Pychic.

  • maybe if we QQ to pual gilbert he will tab it out D:

  • Someone so needs to tab this on guitar

  • ha i was thinking that too D:

  • Now if we could get someone to do it. It seems really easy to play but I can't transcribe it worth crap.

  • best theme ever

  • Most memorable for me was Sabrina... the only good pokemon I had was lvl 45 or so Mew, he got wiped out 5 times by Alakazam (yes I had that many and more revives) and there were 3 or 4 times where he had a sliver of health left but then used recover twice while my Mew used fly. So I lost after 30 minutes again 1 pokemon, then I tried it again and won in 2 minutes, only taking about 100 damage in 1 pokemon...

  • Sabrina is one of the easiest... Misty is pretty hard with Charmander

  • even harder with charmander, sandshrew and nidoran........ my first team at that bit got whooped!

  • This guy was a pain in the ass when you have a charmander but then accidentally i figured out my nidoran male had double kick (lol i know) and after that i always used that strategy: get a lvled up male nidoran and spam double kick till the end

  • right after u get the pokedex nd catch 1 pokemon

  • i remember in yellow i always caught a caterpie lvled it into a butterfree...took 4ever. when i was 3-4 years old i wish i knew fighting was good aganist rock.

  • well depending on who you picked at the beginning I would say Brock was the most memorable for me. When I was younger I always had a tough time, losing multiple times. But a few months ago I got yellow on my emulator and punished Brock with my more mature(i destroyed his geodude and onyx stats) strategy, it is hard to believe that 11 years have passed

  • i choose charmander in pokemon red and was my overall team:

    Charizard Lv100

    Fearow Lv100

    Gyarados Lv100

    Onix Lv100 {yes at the time i though he was very cool }

    Gengar Lv100

    Nidoking Lv100

  • Hey, Onix is awesome. Don't be hating.

  • yeah, i know he is awesome because to me, he looked like a snake.

  • he is once you trade hime holding a metal coat than he becomes awsumzz in g/s/c version atleast

  • damn i remember when i got pokemon blue and red it was the shit! then came pokemon yellow and then i went to walmart to buy it and i remember that a walmart employee was playing it and told me that you could beat brock by capturing a mankey in the grass by viridian city, then when i got home i captured him and beat brock easily, that was a nice tip he gave me!

  • CHARMANDER used SCRATCH! It's not very effective... Onix used BIND! After a while.... CHARMANDER used EMBER! It's not very effective.... ONIX used SCREECH! CHARMANDER'S defense sharply fell! CHARMANDER used EMBER! It's not very effective.... Onix used TACKLE! CHARMANDER fainted! RED whited out....
  • I HEARD A JYNX UP IN THERE

  • I used to get well nervous when I first faced these guys. I was 5, and I found it really hard, because I had no idea about type match-ups, so I found Brock really hard because I always used Pikachu!

  • ahhhh... Kanto music... the very best music.

  • Brock-Easy with Bulbasaur or Squirtle. Butterfree,Mankey or Nidoran M/F were good options for Charmander starter.

Misty-Bulbasaur easy. I used a Pikachu caught in Veridian forest to beat her.

    Lt.Surge-Diglett or Dugtrio

Erica-Charmeleon or a flying type like Pidgeotto

Sabrina-Haunter/Gengar kill her fast due to them being half poison

    Koga-Kadabra/Alakazam or a fire type

    Blaine-Blastoise or Gyrados

    Giovanni-Blastoise or Gyrados

  • Being poisonous makes Sabrina STRONG against them.

  • psychic beats poison... :\

  • Thank god I'm not the only person who has gone through the pain of r/b/y where certain gym leaders or in everyone's childhood was a pain in th ass to beat. (brock's rock pokemon vs charmander or pikachu(a bullshit first chioce), misty's famous bubblebeam and water team vs charmander(who gave her that move), Lt surge's electric team vs my worturtle and weaklings(dammit)), and Erika's posion powder, stun spore, sleep powder, and grass team vs my worturtle and has no chance pokemon(Sonabitch)).

  • Urgh...Misty's bubblebeam -.-

  • misty was so hard if you picked charmander ;_;

  • You could always get an oddish / bellsprout by then, as well as a pikachu.

Brock was much harder for charmader IMO cause you had like, Him, and pidgey and Rattata.

  • Charmander never stood a chance...

  • I always used Butterfree's confusion attack to beat Brock on Yellow Version. Works EVERY TIME. It's much easier than raising a mankey till he learns a fighting move.

  • lol i heard a hydro pump somewhere in there....

  • I belive my brothers and I was Pokemon red and blue(Game boy) And then gameboy color..... Then came Pokemon Yellow. So much meories.. Untill my friend's little borther stole it.. .__. Our Gameboy orked perfectly fine until the battery spring broke..

  • It's kind of weird. Pikachu is the mascot of Pokemon, but none of the kids I knew liked him, and he was pretty weak. Raichu was good, but since the Yellow Pikachu can't evolve, I ended up using the Primeape I caught to beat Brock as my primary pokemon. Pikachu kinda sucked.

  • My first Pokemon game was Yellow-and gods did I love it.

I didn't have a real Game Boy, just a SNES and Super Game Boy I got from a friend at church. I saved my money for ages to get Yellow, and-it was wonderful.

I was a Pokemaniac, and as Pokemad as they came-I treasured every card I owned, every card I could get; I watched the one VHS I had because we didn't have cable. If we'd have had money, I would have had all the merch there was-but I had my cards and my Pikachu plush and that was enough.

  • Brock...oh, how I hated him. Use a pokemon other than Pikachu, the Pikachu I'd always wanted? Heresy! I didn't find out about Mankey until years later-I used Pidgey and Nidoran♂, and I'd sit and grind for hours to get them to the point where they could beat him. I chanted litanies of death and agony to Brock as I fought him, assured him he would lose as I hit "Quick Attack" again and again. At last, from their efforts, the Nidoran♂, the Pidgey I never named, and Pikachu prevailed-I rejoiced.

  • yep thats right (thanks) he was the one who took care of many situations but he was worthless against psycic

  • i answer pika no (that monkey guy saved my battles for the most)

  • this takes me back to elementary school.. thanks for sharing!

  • 1.brock was a pain in the ass (but my pokemons got him in the end)

2.misty was hard becuz of her final pokemon wich was hard but still beatable

3.surge was kind of easy (but his puzle was kawefbkawbhef)

4.after that darn dak tunnel i beat the grass leader with ease

5.that poison pokemon master was fun to deal with

6.sabine(or sumeting like that)was hard and i tell you hard

7.blaine was hard haaaaaaaard (argh that key)

8.giovanni you are the best of all but i beat you anywhay

  • it easier to fight brock in firered if u have a charmander cause it learned metal claw

but in red starting off with a charmander meant HELL with the first 2 gym leaders

  • I remember there is no way you could lose against Brock with a Squirtle (or if, like me, you wasted time battling wild Pokemon to make it a Wartortle before this battle).

  • Onix used Bide!

  • The nostalgic bomb...IT BURNS.

  • FLASH BACK TIME!!!

  • ahhhh... brings back great memories... one of the greatest songs from any pokemon game
